I appreciate your comment. The only clarification that I would add is this: Yes, he is the bishop of Rome; however, the Catholic church does not just treat him as any other bishop. He is elevated to a higher authority than all of the other bishops. In the video, I mentioned that Peter's primacy can be found in Matthew 16, but that does not mean that the unique primal role that Peter played in the early church was meant to be passed down from generation to generation. The Scriptures do not support that. To come to that conclusion, you have to read into the text instead of reading from the text.

I believe that's my point. Neither of those belief's, the primacy of the pope and apostolic succession, is supported by scripture. So, your right to point out that apostolic succession is supported in the same way that Catholics support their arguments for the pope. Apostolic succession was made an importance because in the early church they had to deal with heretics like the gnostics and marcionism. They believed that these heretical camps derived their teachings not from the apostles and prophets but from the apocryphal books such as the Gospel of Thomas, etc. The point that they were trying to make to them is that you cannot create your own type of Christianity, Jesus, etc. It has to be the same one that the apostles has laid out for us in sacred Scripture. If you would like, I can make a whole video on this because I do really appreciate this dialogue. How does that sound?
