Sometimes it just takes a bit of scratching the surface until you see the dirt that needs to be swept away.
The Olight Flashlights company knows how to sell well and aggressively on KZfaq.
If there is also questionable and poor quality of the products, the mix is perfect.
Why do you hardly find, or almost no, critical reviews of Olight on YouToube?
I'll explain why and how Olight's business practices work.
Advertising and mass at any cost.
Long live consumption!
But see for yourself ..

Strange. I bought all my Olights - and other brands - with my own money, carried every day and NEVER had an Olight fail yet. If I did, it would go back under their 5 year warranty. I wouldn’t accept one failure unfixed, let alone 12. Strange how this vid has almost no content but stretches over 20 minutes - with adverts. Seems like the real issue here is you tubers taking freebies and monetising their content.

I’ve bought well over a hundred Olight’s too, and I’ve given most of them as gifts to family, friends, and co-workers. I’ve only had 1 quit working, an S1R, because of a bad battery. This was due to me giving my nephew the wrong type of charger when he lost his. I switched batteries and the light works again. Sorry lady but I carry and use my Olight’s daily, and they have not quit one me, even though I’ve dropped them repeatedly. I put my Streamlights away and carry only Olight’s. I've owned Olight flashlights (among others) for four or five years now. I've done overnight solo camping, extended camping/backpacking, used them at work, etc. The only issue I've ever had with Olight was the original R50 light that they made that had bad batteries (proprietary 26650 batteries). Other than that, have no issues with their various models (I own several M2R Pros, Baton Pro, Baton 3, etc.) as well as Surefire, Streamlight, etc. From what I've seen, Olights are built just as well as any of the others. After all of the abuse from drops, camping, handyman work, etc. all of my Olights are still working fine except the original R50 lights due to the batteries being discontinue (I can use regular 26650 batteries in them, but that doesn't support their magnetic charging capability).

You're comparing Olight, a company with no track record of reliable duty-proven lights (and WITH a track record of defective products causing injury) to Surefires and Streamlights, which have been used by law enforcement and military officers for over 20 years. To each their own, but Olights are nowhere near as bombproof as Surefires.

@@kennymason3518 Yes I’m sharing my personal experience. I don’t expect to see Olight products used by the military as that isn’t their market focus. However, there are some LEOs that carry their products. Adoption by LEOs or the military isn’t a mandate for a product to be a quality product.

That's exactly the problem here. They do use cheaper quality components to reach those prices and they tend to melt down with heavy use. The ones that died on me were the one in my boat, and the one I carried every day. They run too hot and don't care about the damage that happens with longterm hard use. They are fine with drops on medium but one good bump after running on high and they can fail easily. I still have a few but I have 2 4sevens and 2 surefire that I had before I ever had an olight they're still with me. One 4sevens spent a winter in a snow drift, found in spring and has been run over by my jeep on pavement. My olight died from being bumped while hot, and they should probably do some work to solve for that. Hopefully they are listening.

@@Vormulac1 I really believe they know about the heat breakage issues. I have them at my shop where they get tons of abuse, but rarely get run on turbo. Their price and success in my shop made me deploy them for an option as a boat spotlight where I finally used turbo and high for extended periods. I'd wager the cost cutting is in components like silicone boards and wires that are less heat resistant or that have less shielding from heat. I know they're working on it, they certainly seem like they're trying to be a global leader in lights.

Ya I payed 10 bucks for a 800 lumen FL at my local gun store and mounted it to the mini 14 with a olight brand bicycle handlebar light mount. Better cheaper lights and olight still comes in clutch, good thing about a maglight is you can bludgeon someone to death with it

First thing: Most flashlights problems happen because of dirty contacts. Try cleaning the contacts with rubbing alcohol, both positive and negative, the end of the spring AND tube endings and threads (everything in the current path). I've had this happen more times than I can count, even with my vaporizer. Even the best flashlight can let you down for many reasons. I go by the rule of two is one and one is none, so I always carry 2 flashlights and one headlamp as a minimum.

I'm with you on multiple lights as a security gaurd I use them daily but one time my son took mine out of my duty belt and didn't put it back so all I had was a streamlite mini and that went out halfway through a building check. Luckily I had one of those tiny thumb type lights on my key chain and exhausted the battery in it but got out ok and was able to replace the battery in my micro streamlite with a new one from my duty bag.

We have owned 2 Olight headlamps for the last 18 months. We cannot fault them in any way. We have only replaced the headlamp elastic band on both recently. We are travelling full time and have used the headlamps on a daily basis, every night since purchasing from dusk till the time we settle...anywhere up to 4 to 5 hours per night and sometimes throughout the day if we need light for doing something in a dark spot. Usually they are on moonlight or the next setting up. Our only issue has been the head band not staying tight...usually a small adjustment and they are fine...we havent had any problems with them at all and still using the original batteries. We do put them into turbo mode....but rarely because it can shorten the life of the battery. The shrewd advertising campaign that they pursue is modern online business tactics. We have an Olight Javelot for emergencies..and have two Shen Yu (similar to the old maglights) spotlights for the same reason. The interesting thing is, we have hardly seen any advertising for them on you tube in Australia. Bought ours after seeing a fellow you tuber using them who is based in the UK. Up until the day that we purchased these, we were using $30 cheap knock offs and having to replace them and the 18650 batteries 3 to 4 times per year...We spent more in a year on 4 of the cheap ones each per year than we have on the Olights.

I have 9 Olight products. I bought my first one (an s1 baton) and it proved to be such a great light at work. I work a night shift from 6pm to 6am and the first light worked above and beyond for several months. I purchased an upgraded version, the S1R II Baton that was an incredible upgrade. I was able to recharge the light with a magnetic dock and the usability of the light was much better. I've since gotten the S2R Baton that I use for camping and several olight keychain lights that work very well. My most recent purchases are several Olight Obulb MC's that are much more useful than I initially thought they would be. I've never had one fail on me and they always work as expected every time.

Hi Vanessa, the problem I see with most of these flashlights are the switches. They have electronics in the switches to operate the multi functions and the current burns them out. A Maglite you screw it to make the connection, simple, it can't fail. Vary reliable after years of use.🌹

My biggest problem with them and those like them is that most of their lights are propriety and moving towards enclosed batteries. I want a flashlight that can hold multiple battery types and still work great. They have the technology to adjust voltage, step up/down to maximize output, but every popular flashlight company is moving away from this to make modular singular use flashlights. Throwers are great, but did they suddenly forget that you can make adjustable heads to focus the spill? Of course not, they just know people will buy whatever is being aggressively advertised by peer review. It’s all cool shit. I want all of it, but it is annoying when you need a max bright reliable multi-purpose flashlight for night work. One that can flood and throw with an easily interchangeable power supply that doesn’t require special batteries or constant recharging. There are some that seem suitable, but those damn batteries and charging are a major disadvantage.

Hogwash. I've had 5 Olights fail at work during normal use and stopped buying them after that. I tried new batteries, cleaning it well in case of oxidation, and nothing would make them work again. I'm assuming that the LED or the circuitry for the LED went bad on all of them, and that indicates a quality control issue. The lack of customer support is the other red flag. I have one that still works, but I only use it occasionally and not for my job.

I have had several olights for many years. Granted they have a few versions of lights that may not be as expected. The particular olights I have are small as i2r that gets beat to hell on wife’s keychain and should not work but it does. I have several intermediate sizes and a couple m2r warriors in the older 1500L model. Some are being subjected to AR service and have done well. I had one issue with a M2R and was promptly shipped a replacement and told to keep original. It was a led quadrant that was failed-full power was totally fine. So I also have surefire, streamlight, etc…. All I can say is pick your own poison but olights have proven themselves time and time again for me. The time to get olights is when they are having a flash sale or buy on A. I have never been given a Olight. Just one replacement! I think they are a solid value in comparison to other market offerings. You tube and all the other bs aside.just my experience. I agree with this lady: Olight is getting a bit much. They're massively overpriced: They can have flash sales selling torches at half the price and they are still making a profit They MUST be profiting on the flash sales because no WAY are they selling at a loss. They use those proprietary batteries which mean you have to buy the battery from Olight. You then go to buy a new battery and it costs £30 UK and is PERMANENTLY out of stock. They need to reduce their prices (they are made in China for goodness sake) and also make their torches compatible with regular 18650's. Plus their aggressive advertising with sending free products and compliments en masse to every you tuber they possibly can is getting annoying.

Hi Vanessa! :) "Alone in the dark", it was the first PC game I played in this quality of sound ane graph. I don't play on the computer. I never liked it. You just brought back the memories of the atmosphere of these games. On the PC in the 90's, without audio and video drivers, PC games were a nightmare. This one was unique because it worked in both 3D and sound. Scary and wonderful. It's nice to see you as a participant in the action.

I always thought olight was overrated so I didn't get one. Finally got a used Sr1 a couple years ago and it's been working exceptionally. I've also purchased their smaller AA/AAA lights, and the olight pen, and they all work great. Only issue I had was with their garbage ink cartridges, which they sent me new ones for free, and have since updated the ink cartridge. I've seen Cutlery Lover have an issue with a newer olight, but it got swapped out. Another actual issue is their advertised lumens vs actual output, but that's an issue with plenty of flashlight companies. Personally, I've seen so many people use their lights (sponsored or not) and have heard mostly good things. The only light company I've had consistent issues from is Nitecore. All but one of their products I've bought has malfunctioned with very minimal use.

I'm not fan of Chinese products, BUT I've been using Olight for a long time, it is the only light I own that can survive the harsh Industrial conditions I expose my tools to. The power/battery life and build quality of Olights is second to none. Their packaging is even high quality, on every light. Even the very small ones. Your whole video feels like an aggressive advertisement for your own ego, I'm just being honest!

My last olight I owned exploded in my pocket and seriously burned me. The fire dept personnel that responded looked at my burned light and said my keys probably shorted it out (magnetic charging port), which caused it to overheat and detonate. I've since switched over to streamlight, and have zero regrets.

@@danielthomason5685 I'm not understanding how that could happen. I walk around with bolts, washers, metal tools, metal shavings in my pocket at conditions of 110-120 degrees F° in the Summer at my job with my S2R Baton II in that same pocket with fasteners clinging to the induction magnetic charge bottom with no issues. It's designed to be mounted magnetically with the power on. I've used it on the high brightness setting while leaving it clinged to the hood of my car for hours. I slap it on steel beams at work on full power for hours while i work on equipment.....no problem. I even leave my Olight Warrior Mini magnetically attached to my gun safe at night, all night long. Never had an explosion of any incident that could harm myself or others. I don't know if it was a fluke deal with this guy or what. When you hear of Ecigs or cell phone batteries exploding it's all over the news and warnings are put out. I've never seen this with Olight.

@@chadj.bologna4847 agreed. I work in industrial maintenance 15 years. I've been carrying the s2r baton now for about 2 years, it's on my belt while grinding, welding, running end mills and lathes. I use the magnetic end to pick stuff up or to hold the light for hands fee work. I've never had any issues besides having to blow metal chips off the magnetic area due to build up. I have a feeling the "explosion" story is made up or exaggerated. Same with this lady having so many issues.

I only have a couple Olights. The small I1r works reliably. But the I3t has an issue where I can’t reliably choose the brightness setting anymore. When you click the light on it decides whether to do low or high. Even when you try to cycle it the lumens will switch and go right back. So you have to time it perfectly

Great informative video!! Sounds like the corporation is run by aggressively programmed computers (or AI, maybe?) and that there is little (if any) humans working at an actual "corporate office!" Disgusting business practice! Good for you......for pulling off the veil to reveal the truth behind product review videos! Lesson learned! All the best to you!

This couldn't be farther from the truth, actually. If you go to the Olight Facebook group you'll find tons of representatives willing to do anything they can to help folks. They also have a live chat feature on their website and if you need help you can click there and speak to someone who will have you squared away in no time.

I appreciate your honesty. I think it is even more important to know that when the product doesn't work they do not stand behind it, and honor a guarantee. That is even more damning than the product not working. They did get one thing right. Your videos are wonderful (even if they didn't mean it). I always enjoy them. Keep up the great work.

Thank you for expressing your honest opinion of what your experience with Olight flashlight. I have several, some I have used and some were purchased as backup. My daily carry pocket light, about 9 months out is now exhibiting issues with the tail switch not properly tuning the light off all the time. I was also surprised to get a promotional key chain light for with they did not provide any of the special replacement batteries and information on what the battery was or where you could get them. In a call the person at Olight said "we don't carry them but maybe will sometime but not sure". I was surprised to hear this.

What I didn’t see was your diagnostic protocol. Many of these newer flashlights use batteries that maintain full output until very nearly discharged, then they drop to zero output almost instantly. Could that be at play here? With this type of battery, you will not get a warning, such as a flickering or reduced light output.
