My saw stopped working - Hitachi C10RJ Table Saw Repair

3 жыл бұрынAs a woodworking, a table saw is a vital tool in the workshop. When it stops working projects stop getting done.
While ripping a 2by it jammed and my saw kicked off and once cleared would not start back up. After troubleshooting I had felt it was the soft start but wasn't 100% sure. I felt it could only be 1 of 4 or a combination of parts. I found 3 of the 4 online for about $36. I ordered all 3 parts and began to replace one at a time in hopes to getting my saw back up and running.
All parts were easier accessed and replaced. 4 screws on front to access the start/stop switch and reset button and 4 screws on the back to access the wiring connections.
I used needle nosed pliers to pull the connectors off the switch as a few days before when troubleshooting, I pulled the wire off the connector and had to make repair. (So be careful if you need to disconnect the connectors from switches)
In the end it turned out to be the soft start - which was the only connection that wasn't a plug & play type connection - meaning you will have to connect wires together using either wire nuts, crimp connectors or solder the wires together.

I bought it for $40.00 just for the stand, to attach it to my Dwalt Saw, I was about to disconnect the cables from the box, to check it with the multitester, and it occurred to me to reset it, and to my surprise it turned on without problems. Thank you for this video, which inspired me to take the steps.

I ordered the part from Amazon, installed it, and used my saw today for the first time in a couple of months. This after the repair shop gave up and wanted to throw it away. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I didn’t have a binding issue…….well I did the last time I used it. But I reset it every time. Finished the project then put it away. Took it to a job site a while later then it would’t work. Tore it all apart last night but wasn’t getting voltage anywhere. Turned out that somehow or another the plug at the end of the cord was damaged or failed internally. No continuity on the black wire from behind the switch to the plug. I’ll put a new plug on it tomorrow and that ought to do it.

Awesome... so glad it was helpful. If it is your switch, you will need to remove the ‘red’ off flap in order to remove switch once you disconnect wires, switch pushes towards front of assembly not out the rear. You should be able to use a punch and push the pin out that is holding flap in place.

Could you share a picture or the schematics of how the switch is wired. We have one at work and the switch stoped working. We bought a replacement and one of workers decided to replace it without taking any pictures of how to put it back together. Now i don't know how those pins go on what plug.

Hi Johnny, if you look through the comments I have responded several times with links. Some may no longer be in stock or back ordered but all the parts have been linked in the comments. I do not have them saved, sorry. Most people that had this issue it turned out to be the soft start.

Our's just would not start. Mine will hum when I push the start button. Tryed resect still just hums. Any idea?

Hi.I’ve picked up 10 inch table saw.To undo the blade.are the holding nut a left or regular right hand thread,it’s rusted so don’t want to damage it.cheers.

To remove the blade, turn but counter-clock wise - Left turn to loosen.

It wasn’t a difficult repair, just keep wiring organized. I think there are 2 black wires one on each side of switch. Glad this was a help to you.

I do not see the soft start switch after taking the cover off. I have a 3/2016 Hitachi C10RJ jobsite table saw. It quit working after blowing out saw dust. I also inspected the reset and power switch. The power switch has 7 terminals. One of them does not have a connector attached and I did not see a loose one hanging around. I also inspected the brushes.

@@garseetr the ‘soft start’ is located behind the switch in its only little compartment. There are four screws on the front to accessible switch. Then there are four screws on the back to access the backside of the switch and wires. Then there are 2 (I think) additional screws on the backside that you took off with the four screws. The soft start is located in that small compartment.

@@lowerycustominteriors I see in your video at about the 1:40 mark where the soft start is on your saw. What year model is your saw? My saw just.has the black solid cover with three screws. Currently waiting for a new reset switch to arrive. I bought my saw new on clearance at Lowe’s in 2019...3/2016 stock at 50% off sale. Will let you know the outcome. Thanks.

Resolved...The white wire on the cord was bad. Replaced the power cord. BTW my C10RJ tablesaw manufactured 3/2016 does not have a soft start switch. Thanks.

Wait till the Aluminium thread that the leadscrew goes through wears out !! You will have to buy a complete motor unless you are a good machinist who can insert a brass set from eBay... I just ordered for $29 because mine went bad and am not sure if I can do this job...

I had the same issue but I didn't't have time to wait for the parts so I bought a new saw. Unfortunately I took the switch off and I didn't take a pic so I don't know what order the wires go back on. Anyone have a pic I can use for reference?

Like a cave man I just tore mine all apart ready to put a regular house wiring switch in to find way more wires. I too was ripping a board just to have the saw stop working. Saw is 5 years old with very little use. POS. Why doesn’t anything last?!?!?!? Junk.

Watch your video, got same problem with my Hitachi C10 RJ, can’t find parts even at Amazon. Now I’m stuck except I can always hardwire and bypass the soft start switch.Any online parts store you can recommend?Thank you

Thanks man. I'm sure that's what's wrong with my saw too. It just stopped working one day. Didn't even bind a board up in it or anything. I use it regularly doing hardwood floors though. Hopefully I can find that part somewhere else. Thanks again for your video. It was very helpful.
