Yammering about my Schon cues. I'm doing a series of videos about my cues, to be released every 2 days or so in late 2022. This is one such video.

Great video 👍👍. Beautiful cues. I have always had a preference for the Schon cues.

Love this video. And love Schon cues. When I first started playing cue, I hit with my cousin's Schon and my mind was blown (I was using a meucci PPAC3 w/314 and it just felt plastic to me). I spent a lot of money trying to chase that schon feeling, until I finally outright bought a SP1907 from a friend. I ended up selling that to my cousin since I had quit, he really wanted it. I missed it for sure. Then yesterday my friend sells me his Schon SP (looks like the STL 1 but black stained maple, same checkered rings) w/ 4 shafts for dirt cheap. I had to jump on it. I'm loving them once again and hopefully i'll hang onto this one lol

I've been having an issue lately where my old Schon R12 has suddenly become a monster in my hands. It's really making me wonder why I ever switched away from it.

Pretty vs ugly means nothing on how a cue shoots and feels and plays. SVB uses a plane Jane Cuetec that is just black and white. No points and no fancy inlays.

That wrapless Hoppie Schon cue is beautiful. I almost bought a Schon a couple years ago, but didn't like the balance and the look wasn't for me; too fancy with all the inlays and points. So, I got a simple Mezz that had a better balance for my stroke based on reviews. People were saying Schon and Mezz made the highest quality production cues, and they weren't wrong.

I really like the simplicity of my Hoppe Schon. Green and brown veneers wouldn't have been my choice, but they look great together. One of these years I hope to be able to try a Mezz cue. I remember looking at their website, and I was surprised by how expensive they can me.

I like the look of SS joints. I can't really detect any difference in the hit of a cue based on joint differences. Oh, the SS joints have a different sound which may be too "pingy" for some people.

Hello Dave, you mentioned you had a Cuetec Synergy carbon shaft and liked it. I have never shot with a carbon fiber shaft and was thinking of getting one. What do you think of them in general and is one better than the other? Thanks LLoyd
@davidsiltz
@davidsiltz Жыл бұрын
The Cuetec Cynergy is the best shaft I've ever used, easily. But but but I haven't tried all shafts, or even all carbon-fiber shafts. I've tried the Cynergy, the Pechauer Rogue, the Predator Revo, and the Meucci CF shaft that I can't remember the name of. The Cynergy, to me, hits better than any of the other CF shafts I've tried, and all of the CF shafts hit better than any of my wood shafts. Your mileage may vary, as "hit" can be pretty subjective.

My first Schon cue was $1350, I took it to Romine’s in Milwaukee (the owner of Schon is Romine’s owners son) rolled it on the table aaaand bounced like a banana, took it back to the place I bought it from, they gave me shit about it and told me to go to schon. They are in Milwaukee on Burlington ave. I go there and they were cool but they didn’t want to swap out, they wanted to fix it. I wasn’t pleased with this, @$1400 a cue shouldn’t need to be fixed. After a couple of attempts it never rolled true. Finally they let me pick out whatever I wanted within reason. I picked a cool one. It rolled true, it was nice but nothing special, I shot better with my original Viking. Schon cues are nice but all this talk about nothing hits like one of them is b.s people want to believe after dropping over $1k on a cue.
@davidsiltz

I agree with that. Most of my Schon cues hit very well, but I have several other cues that hit better. And one or two of my Schons don't hit very well at all.

I always passed on the Schons with the round points as they seem very inferior to cues with well made sharp points. They scream of CNC mass-production to me.
@davidsiltz
@davidsiltz 7 ай бұрын
I don't feel like CNC point ed cues are inferior in quality, just in looks. If you compare two cues that are identical except one has sharp points and the other has rounded points, I don't see that as an indication quality at all. Of course, the sharp-pointed cue is going to cost four times as much and the CNC version, so value and street cred are definitely different.
@slik00silk84
@slik00silk84 7 ай бұрын
@@davidsiltz The thing is that stress is concentrated at a sharp point more than it is at a round point, where the stress is distributed around the curve. Now whether there is enough stress is a cue for that to matter, is open to debate.

Hello and greetings from Finland again. I have question for you since you've played with all kinds of cues. How does a Schon compare to a Pechauer or a Balabushka cue? I'm a sucker for hard hitting cues again and was thinking about getting a Schön from Germany at some point in the future. If someone else has thoughts, I'd be interested to reading them. Thank you.

I did a video last August called "My Best Hitters" where I compared some of my best-hitting cues. In short, my Pechauers and my Joss cues have had the best hits of any of my cues with the stock shafts. My Adam Balabuska is very good as well, as are most of my Schon cues. I believe, that of the cues I've tried, Pechauer and Joss all have fantastic hits. My Schon cues and my Adam Balabushka have very good hits. It's probably important to note that all of my Schon cues are at least 20 years old.

@5:00.. blem..depending on how many, could be considered rare and you can explain it into making money on resale .. but i doubt it considering there are lots of schons made that arent S or R series.. what do i know im just a caddie 🤷‍♂ .

None of them would be considered rare except my Runde-era one. I'm not interested in resale value of my cues. Never have been. That's not why I've got so many.

@@jonnygrowlately Actually, I will probably give away a cue when I hit 1000 subscribers. I gave away 2 cases when I hit 500. I just might live long enough to hit 1000 if things continue at this rate. The cue I give away probably won't be a Schon, though. Maybe my old break cue. I dunno.

All you cues are traditional looking, with the same woody color and some points......I dont know how you guys see these are beautiful, I really dont get it. like literally you showed 4 cues in here that looks exactly the same, why buy same looking cues :(

@@davidsiltz Are you seriuos? 1, 2, 4, 5 , 7 look the same (exactly) and 3, 6, also look the same, except number 6 (the cue that you forgot) you call a sneaky pete, except its just the 3 but wrapless. haha. I'm sorry that you don't see that because probably you're too much in detail, but I am speaking of the generality of the cue when you take a glance at it, its exactly the same, go to a non-pool player let him take a glance, then bring another one let him take a glance, he'll tell you its the same item.

@@xanh350 My problem was that you said "exactly" which I interpreted to mean "exactly" but you were actually opining from a non-poolplayer perspective. My goal in buying cues was never to get cues of all the varying styles, nor was it to get cues I thought were ugly. I get cues that I like, and it seems that my taste-range is narrower than you would prefer. Everyone is different, and it seems that, in this area at least, you and I are different.
@xanh350

@@davidsiltz I respect that, please don't get me wrong I respect all what you do. But obviously our taste are soooo different and I can see that. Thanks for the videos. I am not a cue collector but I am a player, when I get a cue I stick to it for years and I had one cue which is custom with no much style because to me playability is what matters and looks does not matter to me whatsoever. In fact I tell the cue maker just to make a plain cue choose whatever color he wants and just send it my way. Long story short literally few days ago my fav cue which I had for years got stolen from me here in London or maybe I missed it in a taxi, I tried to track the taxi down but couldn't and my cue & shaft is gone forever, they were in a 1x1 case and now I am without a cue. The way I found you was me searching for info about joss. because I can't afford yet another custom so I am going to get the cheapest joss out there to play with. I wouldnt even care for looks, just plain joss butt with its shaft and maybe find a USED carbon fiber shaft to fit into it, thats it.
