The one I got from Home Depot this week was SUPER SUPER root bound directly from the store. It needed to be repotted immediately. It was planted in what looked like brown powder...replaced with a mix of potting soil, orchid bark, leca, charcoal, and perlite.

Yep, I think they have them in a peat-based soil. I think yours will be happy in its new home!!

They're showing up in Home Depot and Lowe's over the past month or so. Costa Farms says it's such a slow grower that it took them 3 1/2 to 4 years to build up enough stock to start distributing it to retailers across the country.

So.. I just bought this plant yesterday!! I plan to repot it next month.. gonna give it time to acclimate. Its very healthy.. no bugs.. I like terra cotta pots but I'm going to keep it in a plastic pot.

Well.its been 4 mos....its dying.. omg.. I took it out of the soil..repot it..its just not thriving. I'm going to try a different type of pot and soil with more perlite 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️.. if it die. I'm not buying another one.

You’re saying this plant is easy but another you tuber said it’s hard and that it needed to be repotted instantly. So I followed his advice and repotted my new baby. Things normally get bad for me once I repotted so I wish I that I hadn’t.
@gapeachnow26
@gapeachnow26 2 жыл бұрын
I had to repot mine immediately. The pot/soil it came in was way too dense and wouldn't dry out. I lost probably half the leaves because it stayed way too wet and never dried out. Put it in a 6 inch terra cotta pot with 2 parts miracle grow and 1 part perlite and it's doing much better.
@ByBrittanyG
@ByBrittanyG 2 жыл бұрын
Danielle has a good point-if it comes in dense soil, I'd repot it immediately. I think it just depends where you get them from. I didn't repot mine immediately, waited several months and then combined plants to make this monster of a hanging basket! I don't think I would ever say with confidence that a plant *needed* to be repotted immediately, it totally depends on the soil it's in and the environment where you are! Good luck with yours!!

I’ve picked up 4 of these now and the quicker I repot the better they do. The soil was pretty much straight peat and was SOAKED. The first two were complete rehab situations and are absolutely thriving now with their nice chunky soil mix.

@@xii-dollface-iix9644 can you tell me how you mix up your soil for your? I just got one and heard chunky is good since they are susceptible to root rot

@@calissahalpern8426 honestly the easiest thing to do is grab a bag of orchid mix (bark, charcoal and perlite) and add that to whatever potting mix you already have on hand.

mine hates me, it's turning yellow and the leaves are curling yet soil was dry.. I watered it and it only progresses further towards death :( It's in a well draining soil mix but I'm thinking of switching to a cactus soil (with sand)??
@ByBrittanyG
@ByBrittanyG 2 ай бұрын
I find that if I underwater mine, the leaves closest to the base of the soil (the oldest leaves) will yellow and die off. And all of the leaves will curl a bit. I will say that if you're transitioning from winter to spring like I am, this can be a REALLY tricky time of year for houseplants. I find I have to adjust their watering as the days get longer and the temps rise!

I bought my moonlight never watered it 2 days later half of the leaves are wilted and dark is this from store over watering or sunburned? Roots look firm
@ByBrittanyG
@ByBrittanyG Жыл бұрын
Oh man that sucks. It's hard to know...wilted and dark sounds like it could be shock from the cold (if it's still cold where you are). Probably not overwatering if roots are firm.

@@ByBrittanyG Thank you, I thought it was good too. I have mine in a net pot with succulent soil so I don’t have to worry so much about root rot. I watched a podcast from Costa Farms on YT and the biggest reason these fail is wet soil. I’m switching all my plants to clear/white-ish nursery pots or net pots. I can see the roots and much of the moisture level and it’s been very helpful.
