I love putting avocado in a breeder bin. It gets them close to each other, which leads to other activities. 🙂 Even after they have eaten all of the avocado from the shell, you will find worms clustering together within the shell. It's a worm no-tell motel.

If you attach a shop vac near were the dust comes out u should be able to use that inside I do it when I cut tile inside

You are on the right track with the beet powder, what I do is use 50# bags of dried molasses which is beet sugar. It is the ingredient that really puts a shine on the worms. Dried molasses is also the 1 ingredient that allows worms to stay in a container long past harvest and keeps them healthy which is worth it, especially in the wintertime. A good source of vitamins is milk replacer.

I think if you put the grit in the machine along with the oats or something else bulky, you won’t get as much powder.

Have Joe cut a hole in the back of the cover. Make it big enough to put a vacuum hose in it. Run the vac when grinding and it will collect the dust. so it doesn't seep out. Just make sure it has a good bag with low micron capability. Or even better. Get a dust collector from Woodcraft and hook that to it.

I've never seen anything better for growing red wriggler worms than a pile of horse poop. Take a scoop out of the bottom of the pile and you will be amazed.

In your recipe, you say 2 parts Oats (Oat Meal), but your buckets hold maybe 4 times the volume (1-gallon buckets and then 1 qt for the other containers). If that is so, you have 8 parts Oats (2 gal), 1 part Alfalfa (1 qt), 1 part Bird Seed (1 qt), ... And your oyster shells and chicken crumbles look like 1/4 part (not 1/2 part) and maybe 1/4 part whole wheat flour

I have a lot of Hibiscus flowers every day. I add the dead flowers to the bin. I did try to grow beets. It was laughable. I will be feeding it to the bin.

Maybe A 8” plastic duct on the end will keep dust down and help guid in tote.

If you would mix the grit with something like the bird seed the dust would be minimal

Worm chow seems like it might be just the thing to do that. Today I went onto your website to check the size and price. Unfortunately I could not find worm castings listed among your other products. I did get the impression that you sell worm castings. Nice recipe,,, I have also gone to the dry formula as opposed to kitchen scraps which draws too many unwanted thing.s I use chicken crumbles , wheat flour, corn meal, and oats. Since I started doing this seems like the worms are always on top feeding on this mix. Works for me on my small scale operation using the factory 360 . I have 6 trays but usually only use 3 or 4 but with changover may go to more as the worms are more active and are producing more worms.

I just started my worm keeping about 2 weeks ago. I got a pound of European nightcrawlers. I just have a question I'm feeding banana sliced up thin, used coco coir, newspaper strips, dead leaves and eggshells grinded into powder. Lol to my question I have them in 4 different containers like 14 inches long 6 wide and 4 deep. There's mold growing on the banana and was wondering if I should put them all into one bin or if it's best to start out with it like I am.

Thank you for the lovely video... I am from Kanyakumari, India. Am going to start my first vermicompost tank day after tomorrow. I have been filling the tank with layers of dry mango leaves and then fruits/ vegetables for more than a 60 days. I have made 6 layers till now. After each layer I add diluted cow dung on to the layer. I am going to introduce the worms day after tomorrow(African). My question is do I need to add work chow for my tank? Is it mandatory?

Hi, in case of chow only bins. If a bin has 2 pounds of red wiggler worms. Are they supposed to be fed 1pound of Chow daily? Someone told me that they eat half of their body weight daily.... bcos vegies are mostly water where as chow is dense... thanks
