Its interesting that the translation here is "my shadow always follows me" as oposed to the literwl one of "how to get rid of your shadow"

The word for word translation wouldnt have fit with the flow so thats the best choice they could have made. Cause it technically still can mean the same but it fits better with the music.

German musicals do not translate well to English. The original song is one of my favorites but something is lost in translation here, and English is my first language. Best to listen to it in German XD

True. It was a good decision to do a fairly liberal translation; trying for a near literal translation ... I don't think that would have worked. But that fugue of questions in the German version, with those contrasts ("Whom can I ask when I don't understand myself?") is more dramatic. Nice to see that human mind can still come up with things which are beyond google tranlate.

I'm honestly really sad that this English version doesn't slap as hard as the german one does because I'd love to learn this song but now I gotta learn german first (I don't mind that much because this is such a cool song)

@@tylerlapointe5321 How did it go? German isnt easy but even though its my mother tongue, with other languages I always found it much easier to just learn songs than the actual language/grammar and all :)

Uh, wow. He's a good singer but I think I prefer the German version of this song.

Same. And it's not like he (Oedo Kuipers) can't sing in English either, if you listen to his two studio albums, Cover Art and Pure. It's just that this translation isn't quite accurate.

Hallo :) Wow, cooles Video, danke dafür! Mir sind allerdings ein paar Fehler aufgefallen. Gleich am Anfang könnte es "perfume scent" heißen, das erste Fragezeichen müsste "has me sick to death" heißen, beim zweiten verstehe ich auch "wild", beim dritten "burning like a spark", nicht "birding". Ich glaube, er singt "dark anD invisible ghost", aber da bin ich mir nicht sicher. "no matter how I try to fLee" "but it's my faTe, I can't break free" "What good is iMMortality" "stale smell" (ohne "of") "no sound, no chord" "I'm better than the rest" "as you watch inspired" (?) "taking away the AIR to breath" "I can not fLee"

Can someone tell me what the chorus sings when in German they're supposed to sing "Hinter dir steht ein Dämon..."? I can't make it out and I love those background lyrics. Any help?

Just listened to the German version and I couldn't hear that "hinter dir steht ein Dämon" line at all. Could you add a time stamp?

as far as I can hear they're singing "by your side is a demon", the rest I can't understand quite as clearly .. I personally think it's a good translation though, very close to the original.
