It is literally a shame that a channel like yours has only 81300 subscribers. Look at this video quality..the editing the quality of the lighting and the camera angles ..of the image. I am still flabergasted each time I watch your videos you have literally opened a new world for me. you are such a pleasure to listen to, you have such a huge culture on the sartorial topic and you always are so humble gentle and elegant. It is such a shame this video only has 44000 views. I don't know if there is something in the youtube algoritm not showing views but anyway that tells a lot about the state of our culture and the decadent age we live in. God bless you Hugo and thanks for what you are doing.

KlaasDeKaasBaas Try eBay. The first Goodyear welted shoes I got was a pair of black chukka boots by Sanders and they cost me £65. They were freshly refurbished and resoled by Sanders so they look practically new. A new pair would have cost me over £200.

Love that “licking the window “ I have done that when looking at a rock and roll display of 1960’s drums, guitars and amps. I must have been 6 years old! Very impressive shoe collection can’t wait to see the next part. About 2-3 years ago I started my journey learning about classic men’s style. I first heard about over the calf -thin socks. They were from a company called Fort Belvedere and were about $40 which was 10 times what I was used to spending. Took a while to step up on the socks. Please show us what you favorite socks are,

Hugo, the color balance between your suit coat, shirt and tie are superb. The combination is both elegant and refined. They stand-out without calling so much attention that they scream "look at me". The Gingko was my first pair of upscale shoes/boots as well. The same color as shown here except with canvas collar as opposed to suede. I purchased them around '97-ish in NYC. I've worn them through many New England winters and this year I will send them to be resoled. The condition of the uppers you say? Perfect patina because of annual Saphir moisturizer and chestnut cream from time to time. Hugo is 100% right when he notes they are "indestructible".

An interesting point you make regarding black shoes, I recently wrote a little piece on my site about it - though talking about the wardrobes of young men in particular - and came to the same conclusion: you can get by without a pair of black shoes for a long time. I really enjoy watching your episodes, I always save them for Saturday afternoon and relax watching them with a hot coffee and a cigar. I thought I was the only one obsessed about not damaging the soles 😄. What I do is always take new shoes to a cobbler and add thin vibram inserts on the sole. Not a very elegant solution but to my eyes neither is a scuffed and damaged leather sole. Plus I never have to resole them at usually big costs, when the insert gets damaged I simply replace it

As an Englishman living in France , I’m always pleased when one of your countrymen comments,favourably on the shoes I’m wearing. I was born in Kettering, and had family in the shoe industry so was brought up to appreciate good footwear. Just like yourself, I bought my first decent pair of r t w shoes in the late 80s.I too opted for the Church’s tan Grafton Bookbinder brogue on the 73 last.In my eyes the most beautiful shoe ,which also ages gracefully. As a footnote ( no pun intended) I was very disappointed when Church’s was bought out by a fashion house and to cut costs now only produces the Grafton on the 100 last !
@SARTORIALTALKS4 жыл бұрын
Dear Shaun, thank you so much for your contribution. Oddly enough, when I was a teenager my school had an exchange agreement with Kettering... So the first trip of my life outside France was in Kettering when I was 14 years old! I also visited the magnificent factory of Gaziano & Girling in this town a few years ago. I agree with you concerning Church's. Prada buying Church's seemed so bizarre, almost counter natural... Cheers, Hugo

Hi Mr.Jacomet would be interested to know your opinion on Men's Louboutin 's RTW dress shoe line. Regards

Way overpriced and tacky for my personal taste. Marketing brainwashing my friend. You can get so much better for half of the price. Hugo

What do you think about Silvano lattanzi / bontoni / Paolo scafora bespoke / mtm . Thx for any input :) I mean in comparison
@SARTORIALTALKS4 жыл бұрын
SL, too expensive (and too show off for my taste). Bontoni is great and Scafora also (especially the Norwegian stitched models). Best, Hugo

What about comfort? I know the style it's the decision maker but how comfy they are? Thanks you for such a great video Hugo

Dear Yak, all these shoes are extremely comfortable after a little break-in time of about 24 hours of wear. Cheers, Hugo

What shoe styles and brands would you recommend for casual wear, going to the beach, on weekends, etc.? I have been considering a slipper style such as the loafer, or boat shoes, though from what I’ve seen boat shoes seem a little gimmicky. I recently spent three weeks in Italy and slipper style shoes are very popular there. In fact, I bought my first pair of casual leather shoes while in Florence, and ever since I have become quite interested in quality, stylish clothing. Your videos have most definitely helped me understand the technicalities of the world of men’s fashion and inspired me to research which styles I am fond of. On a side note, are there any good shoe and suit manufacturers that you know of based out of Australia? Most I have seen are based out of Europe and shipping costs are often very high.

Dear Barnabas, Australia is indeed quite far and the local production is not very developed (to say the least). For casual style I would recommend "Belgian Loafers", very casual but chic at the same time. Companies like Velasca (shoes) or Spier & Mackay (affordable ready-to-wear suits and jackets) do ship to Australia. Best, Hugo

SARTORIAL TALKS Thank you for your reply! I have just realised that I wrote Oxford in my original comment as opposed to Loafer. As for the Belgian Loafers you have recommended, they are a style that I have not seen before and I really appreciate the clean lines. I will definitely take a look at them in more detail. Thank you greatly for your manufacturer recommendations as well. You mentioned Spier and Mackay in your value suit brand video, and I have had a positive impression from their website, and I will research Velasca more. I wish you all the best. - Barnabas
