I'm sorry, if my parents and other relatives did not support me and continue to gaslight me, I would cut off all ties and tell them so. It's not worth the mental anguish. Why do people do this? 7.5 billion people in the world and they pick a BFF/sibling. As to helping the sister out? If it made her feel any better then she could give $$ to her parents to help out her sister. No contact, but she's still helping out.

Op should tell her parents she will take in her neices if her parents cut her sister and BIL. Since Op and her husband will have to shoulder the financial burden of two more children. If the parents say that they won't cut sis and BIL off, they can drop it. Also, why wasn't OP family when Sis was getting rawed by ex-fiance?

I understand OP'S hesitation on the whole situation. OP'S extended family was passing judgment on her decision not to reach out to her sister in her time of need. But it doesn't appear the extended family has offered any kind of support, emotional or financial. That being said, for the innocent children's sake, can't OP send a one-time donation to help support the children? She doesn't have to personally be involved in her sisters life at all. I'm not judging OP because she feels okay with her decision, so that's what's important.

It's amazing ain't it?...she didn't need a sister when she was banging her sisters fiance. now that she's struggling suddenly she needs her🙄... I see no way to get the sister relationship back. That type of betrayal is deep & I imagine much more hurtful because you don't expect your own sister to do that to you... that sisterly bond and trust would be broken beyond repair.. there's no way I'd be able to ever trust her again.. sisters don't do this. What her nephew said is true, it is a grudge. A pretty big one which she doesn't want to let go and certainly not own up to it. She can hold that grudge all she wants, but accepting that it is, would help her to finally close that chapter in her life and make her mentally a lot more stable.
