id say aot is one of the worse ones I've seen just because Eren and Armin both just don't fit. Eren sounds almost unbearably whiny. I watched it in dub originally and then in sub and was very surprised how much better it was. Erwin does have a goated VA in the dub though

Erwin is my favorite character in the show. That conversation between him and Levi is so good. Erwin for the first time, reveals his lifelong struggle of selfishness in wanting to see what is in the bunker. And up until that point, his desires and that of humanities had coincided. But he realizes that he has to make a choice for the first time against his personal goal, and it breaks him. He is waffling and reveals that to Levi. That is why Levi is such a perfect friend in that moment and says "I am making the choice for you" it clears and cements in Erwin what the right choice is, and he moves forward for his comrades. Any other show would have just turned Erwin into an "evil" selfish character in that moment in a "twist" or had just made Erwin the always perfect heroic general. But AOT takes what we all struggle with at points in life which is balancing our personal goals and doing what is right for those around us. That struggle is placed on Erwin in that moment, and it is beautifully handled.

In response to the Japanese vs the English this is one of the few moments in anime where the voice actor for the English really lived up to the Japanese. It’s well done particularly for the speech and generally the whole show

@nikolakrstic8079 Yeah, I personally love the sub more, but this is one of the few instances where I like the dub also. The English voice actor is particularly good also.

EDIT number 2: thank god she understands what i meant in my other comment, the script matters more than the voices (provided that the dub voice actors aren't trash) ((cuz i know some anime is so bad in the dub with the voices that even i, a dub watcher, would gladly watch the sub if the dubs voices are that bad)) but in this case, they are both pretty close and the dub has great voice actors, so the real thing that puts one over the other is WHAT is said in the sentence and HOW they say it...not the voices themselves

the japanese voice actors might be better (thats an opinion tho i like english more) but the script writting in the sub ruins most of the chills and goosebumps and emotions i get from the dub...."what about their lives? were they meaningless?"......(sub) "No, comma, they weren't!".....(dub) "They were not!"...............HUGE difference on the impact of the delivery of the line, same meaning, different feeling.....the sub script writers are literally just highered translators who don't know the first thing about giving a good speech in english, nor do they care, they are just tasked with translating the sub DIRECTLY from japanese to english which DOES NOT WORK because our grammar, sentence structure, and figures of speech are completely different the people who speak english who dont understand fluent japanese, i am convinced that you could change the words in the subtitles to "goo goo gah gah" and the sub watchers would still love the sub more for the voices alone, cuz i dont understand, that if you mute the voices and were just left with the music ost and the subtitles, that someone could read the sub and actually think it is worded better for english speakers than what the dubs script does....it's literally night and day and once again, if you like the japanese voice actors more that is completely valid, but if you try to tell me that you think the subs script is written better, than i would say you are just on team sub till death do you part....and are just so entranced with the japanese language that you can't see the obvious fact that the script is sub par compared to the dub....i dont and cannot believe that someone with an objective, non-biased mind, can actually think the subs script is worded better while reading it, it's literally impossible EDIT: plus it is pretty hard to feel the impact of a language when you are reading it in your head in english but you have a bunch of japanese in the background, it is more of an interference when trying to match the impactful parts of an english sentence to the impactful parts of the japanese sentence (because the grammar and sentence structure are so different, and they put emphasis on different words in different parts of the sentence)....i would say tho, if i spoke fluent japanese, the sub might be 10x better than i think it is now....but since i and most of the people who are ganna disagree with this comment DON'T speak japanese....i find it hard to believe that people can actually like the subs script writing more, they just love the subs voice so much that no matter WHAT they actually say, as long as there is a japanese voice saying it, it's like you guys go into horse blinders mode and can care less about anything else

You've said it all, if every show in this world have a Japanese dub the sub elitist would still say the Japanese dub is better, that's because they're too obsessed with it and anything Japanese sounds better in their ears even though they don't understand the language and can't differentiate between good and bad voice acting

@@viruxffyt6650 lol, i feel you 100%, i try not to shit on sub watchers too much tho, some people genuinely like it more and are also ok with dubs too, so those people i try not to offend but there DEFINITELY is a such thing as Sub Elitists....this is a real thing lol and idk if i mentioned this in the comment, but id go as far as to say that the sub would be fine if they translated it the same way that the dub did and whenever i tell that to an elitist i get thee ol', " well that is because the sub is translated directly as the writer intended it, which makes it the original, which makes it better"....and to that i say, "that is something a bias person says, that you think something is better or not just based off how original it is and not how well they convey english dialog to an english audience..." i know for a 100% fact that the sub watchers that shit on the dub, well, they only watched a handful of 20 second clips of their favorite scenes, probably thought at least half of them sounded perfectly fine if not great, and then proceeded to shit on the dub for the sole purpose of never admitting that a dub can be good, all while sipping their Soju with their pinkies up in the air

Masha, if you starts watching anime in Japanese language whith seiyuu (voice actors), few series and get used to the language hearing. Then try watching dubbed in English you will fell the difference and for 99% you go back to Japanese ;)

watch these shows in japanese, yes at first its hard to focus on the scene and on subtitles but you will get used to it eventually and the difference is night and day. The Japanese dubs are way powerful

The English dub of Erwin isn't terrible, unlike a lot of others, especially Eren is absolutely unbearable for me (including his weird helium inhaled titan screams). But the original voice is just on another level and his speech still always gives me literal goosebumps.

sub script writing for the english speakers is not tho, and i bet you can't explain why the sub is better to you without mentioning voice actors, like i said in my other comment, most devout sub watchers can replace the subtitles with "goo goo gah gah" and they would still like the japanese more just for the voices alone, they could care less what they are actually saying....it's weird too, for english speakers, to love the japanese so much when they dont understand it simply by the tone of voice and nothing else, like giving a good speech doesnt matter to any sub watcher as long as the speakers voices sounds nice...it's almost as if, to me, that sub watchers that cant admit that the dubs script is better, are just going to advocate for the japanese version only because of the fact that it is japanese, it's like nothing else matters besides how "japanese" something is, which to me, is just extreme bias to the point of deluding themselves to thinking that everything is better in the sub, script and all, which it is NOT lol..
