As someone with adhd I have always had trouble following tutorials on how to do my hair like this. I also have naturally very thick hair. This was easy to follow and VERY detailed. Will be using this video so I can start practicing!

@@TheGlambassador Just the fact that the set is linear and understandable in the way you move ftom section. The camera angle was also very helpful because we're able to get a full view of the entire head. Also, explaining in detail how you section each part of the head makes it easier to understand. Hope this helps as much as it helped me 😊

The first net was a sleep or slumber net, the second one was a triangular setting net , generally used at a beauty salon before placing you under a commercial beauty salon dryer 😊

I want to first say thank you for your videos and blog. I have 3b curly hair and have always wanted to try vintage hair styling, but constantly failed. This time around I found your videos and another girl with curly hair as well as a few ladies with coily hair and it gave me the courage to attempt again after 6 years. My hair is a bit long (almost past my bra) for most vintage hairstyles, but I have great spring and shrinkage HAHA. I followed your tips and did a similar setting pattern. I normally use homemade flax seed gel so I even used your recipe and made my own setting lotion. After 3 attempts I started to get the hang of it, but failed at the brush out. I thought maybe I just can't brush my hair out as much as the other gals. This time I think I cracked the code for my hair. I used both the flax seed setting lotion and my homemade gel for extra hold, but this time I really gave my hair plenty of time to dry (almost 36 hours, I wasn't going anywhere so didn't care that hair was in foam rollers) and even used a dryer bonnet to ensure it was completely dry. WOW! Big difference when brush out time came. I used a little avocado oil on my hands for the take down of the rollers, but the real game changer for me was your tip on your blog about products and tools. I had used different pomades with lack luster results. This time I used my husband's Brylcreem for the same reasons my husband stop using it. For him it was too greasy, but for me it added the extra shine I needed so my hair looks glossy and not lifeless. Thank you so much for the tips. They really work and I learned a lot about not quitting, keep practicing and being patient.

I am loving all of your videos. You are such an inspiration! I do have a request: Can you help us with vintage etiquette, as in do we need to remove our hats if we wear them out to a restaurant? Say when you go grocery shopping, do you actually wear your gloves or save them for a "date night" situation? I have so many questions! I don't want to feel out of place and be improper! Congrats on your move to Austria! (I'm from the DC area too!)

Absolutely first class tutorial, I've been doing a wet set for a few weeks now, really getting the hang of how to do it. Did one yesterday, and I have curls and waves today, so delighted. Pleased could ask you, do you have evening clothes that you wear when you go out for the evening, ( not a black tie do) but for maybe dinner, theatre, cinema out with friends etc or do you wear your day clothes. ( You always look fabulous) Can't find anything in my books about this. Many thanks.

Thank you! I can’t wait to try, I’m hoping for a Rita Hayworth style & my hair is somewhat longer than yours, would we use the same concept with just a larger roller?
@TheGlambassador
@TheGlambassador 3 ай бұрын
Yes, I would use a larger roller and roll the fringe back and down instead of off to the side. This will give you more volume in the front section.

I wasn’t sure what you were trying to avoid in terms of layers up front. And how does starting half way up prevent whatever it is you don’t want? Thanks for such a thorough tutorial!
@TheGlambassador
@TheGlambassador Жыл бұрын
When hair is layered or even cut at an angle like mine, the ends are different lengths. That makes it hard to take the roller all the way to the end to start rolling up. The shorter layers don’t get incorporated onto the roll as easily. So starting half way up the shaft makes it so all of the hair gets incorporated onto the roller together and then you can grab the longer strands and wrap those around to roll it all up as one piece. I hope that clarifies it for you.

What do you to with your hair while in the shower? How do you keep its shape? 💗

I just use a shower cap to protect it from the water and humidity. The wet set is how the shape is maintained.

I am going to put this here in case anyone else is experiencing the following: Hi, I noticed when I set my hair wet or dry. When I shower with a shower cap on my head the underside of my hair is always wet. And I learned the reason being that I wash my face in the shower, and I have to put my face under the water while tilting my face to the sky, it causes water to seep into my shower cap. In order to prevent that from happening I will have no choice but to wash my face at the bathroom sink. Which is not that bad of an option, I do have a facial brush I use to wash my face with, and I take a damp washcloth to my face to remove any soap.

My hair is very long. I’ve tried this once but it still wasn’t dry in the morning. Will this look the same on long hair?
@TheGlambassador
@TheGlambassador 11 ай бұрын
A wet set typically needs at least 24 hours to fully dry, it won’t happen overnight. Depending on how long your hair is you might need a bit long to dry or you can try using a bonnet dryer to speed up the process.

Keep at it, it takes time to figure out what works and to build the muscle memory. Remember too that hair has to build the tension memory of the curl as well. You'll get there.
