In the middle of the video, there is a scene where my Korean friend at the time says, ""I guess you'd say the same thing if you traveled to North Korea" What he meant to say was, "No matter which country you go to, you only focus on the positive aspects and turn a blind eye to the negatives," and he just used North Korea as an example. I'm from the Philippines currently living in Japan as a teacher. It's true, Japan is clean, orderly and progressive but it comes with a lot of problems also. When I first came here, I thought I will be happy because I've always dreamt of living in this amazing country of yours. After 1 year, that's when I came to realize that I'm not as happy here compared to when I was living in the Philippines. Yes, the salary in the Philippines is very low but I was happier. People here are not approachable, and the sense of community is somewhat lacking. I can't even make friends with our neighbor. There's like a big, invisible slogan here that says "I mind my own business, you mind your own". I always go back to the Philippines whenever I have time because I really miss the people there. It doesn't compare the happiness I feel whenever I'm with my people.

Emptiness in itself has something to offer. LIVING in the Philippines will teach you how to slow down, rest, enjoy the scenery, and be thankful. Thankful that your house didn't wash away in a flood. THankful that the yearly typhoon didn't blow the roof off my house. THankful that you have a full belly at the end of the day. I am GLAD that you make these videos, and i pray that you keep on posting. #godblessMABUHAYkakapatid

Thanks for sharing. Filipinos are a warm and hospitable people, and we welcome all foreigners to our land. Many Filipinos don't have a problem with foreigners immigrating and living in the Philippines. Unfortunately, there are some foreigners who, despite being shown generosity and hospitality by Filipinos, look down on our country and people. These foreigners I am talking about are the ones who have immigrated to the Philippines and opened businesses here because in their countries they had more difficult lives. Here they find success because Filipinos are welcoming and have patronized their businesses. But despite this success, these foreigners look down on Filipinos and say bad things about Filipinos. We don't want those kind of foreigners in our country. We want foreigners who are like you - people who are appreciative of our country and people. We want foreigners like you to stay because you can add positivity to our country.

We Filipinos are not rich nor poor but we are proud to serve to anybody including foreigners who to come to our place just to make them happy. There happiness are also our blessings from God.

This was recommended to me by KZfaq. I thought this is just another vlog. But as I read through your captions, I was telling myself that this is poetry. This video made me feel the same way as how Kimi No Nawa did their opening. Highly introspective and somewhat motivational. ❤

The story is profound. The random gratuitous cat segment is probably the best scene. That cat sleeping in the storage compartment of the scooter reminds of us to be chill and find Zen wherever we may be or whatever situation we are in.

"Your problems are the problems of a rich kid." your teacher sounds very Filipino. I always say the same thing to my wife. She has an existential crisis and always asking herself about her worth. They were rich when she was a child. I was born into a regular family. We're chill and happy-go-lucky but raised as tough as nails. This kind of problem in the Philippines was (mostly) the problem of the privileged and wealthy people. I'm happy for you. If you feel sad and depressed again, Filipinos will support you emotionally(not financially 🤣🤣). No pressure here. Just cheer up and do what your heart wants, Ganbatte kudasai!

The stillness, the sound of the neighborhood, the smell of the morning and the sea brings me peace. I hope one day I can go back and live in the province.

The effects of the pandemic have greatly affected my life (financially and emotionally) and after learning about your story and what you have to go through I feel a sense of relief and motivated. When I moved to the US coming from the Philippines, I realized that every place have their PROS and CONS. The other place isn't necessarily better, but it gives you a change of perspective. I miss the Philippines everyday since I moved here, but that doesn't mean I'm not that thankful in having the opportunity to move somewhere else. My mom was born in a province (Ilocos Norte). There's something really therapeautic in moving to such rural places. I guess I have to agree that you don't need to be special to have a place to belong. You just need to find that place.

I have a few Japanese friends who decided to live in the Philippines. They are intrigued by the World War II history between the Philippines and Japan and we have visited many historical sites from Bataan to Tarlac as well as the other places all over the Philippines. We have also retraced the steps of General Yamashita hoping to know more about his life. Welcome to the Philippines!

As a Filipino housemaid in the Middle East all I wanted was to survive. But when I arrived here in the year 2000 my world started to open up. Part of me was living vicariously as an Arab. The world and being in it after all is exciting. So many things to discover about ourselves too.

This video is so much more sophisticated and moving than millions of others. It's in a class all its own.

Those words are so deep! It's like a poem to my ears.

I think Filipinos being so diverse as one of the reason we are chill about life, maybe even too relaxed. Japanese people are very homogenous in both culture, actuation, and inhabitants. I feel that Japanese people are too occupied with being one with the community and following the norms and culture. By being different, people might think you are obnoxious or nonconformist. In the Philippines, there is no right way to do anything. You can cook adobo the way you want and no one bats an eye as long as it tastes decent (although they might brag their "mom's" cooking is way better". My point is, Filipinos live with a "what comes may" attitude. There is a saying "Bahala na si Batman", which literally translates to "Let Batman take care of it", which is popularly used when things get rough, and you simply ignore the stresses you get from it. I know a lot of people who thinks that problems are temporary, and after every hardship, there is always a better tomorrow. I think this is also the reason people here seldom commit suicide or quit. It is also a fact that we are very lenient with failure here, people do not think failures as permanent, but as temporary setback that we can always try another time. Although, that leniency is also double edge sword. I think it's the reason the Philippines is still poor. I guess you cannot have everything.

this is a really deep reflection on how we must live our life. sometimes comfort doesnt happiness nor happiness can give us comfort. life is may be journey of struggle yet were blessed enough to enjoy some moments of it.

Foods and housing is not a problem there. But longer term like retirement plan and healthcare, that’s what you should be looking forward to make enough until you are stable. Many Filipinos depended from their children’s support. You should get your retirement plan, insurance etc

Exploring the world and broadening your horizons is the best choice for those people who are stuck in life and feel no sense of purpose anymore because of the pressures of the working society. I don't like Manila compared to the province but when I'm not alone it's not so bad. But the province is really something else. There's this feeling of peace and security I cannot explain.

I've often thought that if the world wasn't separated by language, economics, and other obstacles, we might find a rustic village in rural Japan dotted with people from Africa, northern Ireland, Chile and a dozen other places. All drawn to stay and make roots in a place and culture that, in their travels, they found to feel like home. I look forward to that world.

I grew up in Manila but my parents are natives here, I must say I prefer here because all of your needs are walking distance plus it is much cleaner and greener here, the only issue I have are power outages and people doesn't like where I came from (people here are irritated to manila people) so it took 2 years for me to know how to adjust and blend and more importantly speak bisaya.

very interesting. i am in the opposite situation, coming from the philippines everything was indeed too lax, it's true. that's why i felt like i had to move away to find something to dedicate myself to surrounded by people with genuine interest in that thing. filipino people are very lax, that's why when(most of them) take interest in certain things it is only usually surface-level interest. as someone who likes to dive really deep into things i take an interest in, the situation in the philippines made me lose motivation with a lot of things since i felt alone on that regard after moving away my life now is definitely 100x more tiring physically, but i don't feel like my efforts are as useless anymore, i feel like i'm moving forward. but someday i might end up feeling the same way as you. perhaps you were far enough in life to find the value of what the philippines provides, but in my case, i haven't started my life yet and i felt like i could not start it in the philippines at all. metaphorically, it is a great place to stay put when your life is in a phase that you are already comfortable with, but it is a bad place if you are starting from the bottom and want to move forward in life

I like your sensibility. I visited Japan two months ago. Loved the trains, food and heated toilet seats.

I have always wondered why Japan has a high suicide rate in the world. It seems so lovely to look at. Very clean, neat, orderly. But tge people seem so monotonous and rigid in their conversations. The Philippines is gossipping a lot. Interacts a lot with neighbors and strangers. Always kind and there's a sense of altruism. I not just luke tge Philippines, i love it. I am very proud to be Pinoy. We are truly unique and very happy people. Love is always felt here.
