I am glad you got back into creating music. I agree with stepping away from the computer. I am a network engineer and I am on the computer all the time. I also have the OXI and the Perkons. I think limitations are really good for creativity.

Thanks for the comment and pleasure to meet my fellow engineer. There was a point I really thought all this hardware would never make a comeback. Software is efficient, cheap, and sounds as good as anything else. But you cant replace the need for tactility if one seeks that experience.

Thank you! I do love the Elektron stuff and plan to someday reunite with them. Have fun with it and keep at it. If you want a more out-of-the-screen experience try one of the FaderFox controllers with your Elektron. They map to all those buried controls for immediacy.

Thank you!! If you like the sound demos you are going to love the Perfourmer. It really creates an emotional connection with the artist using it. Have fun with that Perkons. Super easy to get started. The manual is really nice but go with the online version as some big changes have since been implemented. Reach out if you have any questions!

@Mark Cee The Perfourmer is probably the best sounding synth I have ever heard. I always end up trying to recreate Perfourmer sounds with my other synths and it just never sounds quite like I want it to. The synth that has gotten the closest is maybe the dreadbox typhon. So I'm just going to have to finally throw down and buy one to have the real deal. 🤣 Now the trick is going to be finding one at a reasonable price when I actually have extra money haha

Good video. I’ve got similar sentiments around gear and have been back and forth so many times with Elektron machines. Love the potential but never get very far. I had an oxi one and sold it to get a Octatrack but am regretting that decision. I’ve got a perfourmer already and Perkons on the way too. I considered the super6 but I think it’s overly complicated and expensive for the current firmware. And maybe I don’t need a poly in my life! Thanks again for the overview.
@Noise-Maker
@Noise-Maker Жыл бұрын
I hear you on the OXI One! Did you sell before the 3.0 Firmware? I actually sorta kinda miss not having and Octatrack around. Not so much for the MIDI but for its sample mangling. Super 6 is a little expensive in my opinion as well. It very well built but am not 100 percent sure if its going to be the end all poly synth for me. I need more deep diving with it. I had a Syntrx and sold it for the Super 6. I miss that Syntrx actually. And now they have a Syntrx 2. The both offer so much in different areas. Thanks for the comment!!

Another IT slug here man. Hardware is it. I have NI Maschine MKIII and Maschine Jam for my MBP and M1 Mac Mini when I feel like producing with a computer. Just got the Perkins and waiting on the Syntrx II which is going to be a separate rig from my Elektron rack with my Avalons. I hope to make some different more experimental music. Got some cool stuff there. That bassline needs a dusting, LOL.

Interesting thoughts and ideas. Thanks for sharing. I have a similiar setup, but replaced the OXI One by the HAPAX sequencer which was a good decision for me. The Percons is on my list too and the Perfourmer I am observing for 2 years but decided to buy a Waldorf M which was not a good decision as I somehow don't like the M's sound and menu stepping. Don't know if I will keep the Elektron Rytm as I already have the RD-8, RD-9, Model:Cycles and Polyend Play for creating drums and percussions.
@Noise-Maker
@Noise-Maker Жыл бұрын
Oh really interested to hear about your HAPAX experience! That looks like a better sequencer in terms of User interface. Seems to have a ton of features as well. What are you enjoying most about the switch from OXI One? Agree about the menu diving on your Waldorf. Really is a head scratcher they charge so much but leave so many controls behind the panel on an LCD display. But thats just my feeling. That combo of Drum and sample machines would make the Rytm collect dust since room is not an issue for me. If my desk was too small I would keep the Rytm. But wow, the live possibilities with that setup is awesome! And the price of all that almost equals the price of a new MK2 Rytm. Thank you for sharing your studio thoughts with me!

@@Noise-Maker The Hapax is a big step forward as it has a lof of advantages for me. First of all, its structure and usage is more logical for me and how I work and how I would design this type of machine. With the OXI I was always unsure, which button is used for which function as icons are not a good idea for buttons as everyone interpretes it differently. I have around 12 hardware synths so I can sequence them easily from the Hapax, each one has its own tracks and MIDI channel and one of the coolest feature is to have instruments definitions so you can put everything in a configuration file for each hardware synth and you have everything setup (name of the synth, MIDI channel, MIDI #CCs, etc.) Another cool feature is: you can load 2 programs at once so you could sequence 16 hardware synths while on program #1 and 16 software synths while on program #2 for example. This is my setup at the moment, the HAPAX in the center of everything. bilder.hifi-forum.de/medium/998805/img-5514_1197948.jpg

How is your ableton set up to receive sends from the Perkons?
@Noise-Maker
@Noise-Maker 11 ай бұрын
Hi Minecrafter. Currently using Bitwig but very much an ableton clone with its own stuff. I take the send outs from the Perkons into a channel on my sound card. That channel will then be assigned to a track in Bitwig. I will adjust volume to taste. Now when i turn the send knob the sound fades from the main outs on the Perkons into the send track i built in Bitwig.

Appreciate the run through! One thing you might have mentioned but I maybe missed, is are you using the OXI One to sequence the Perkons as well? I'm thinking about picking up the Perkons, but have heard mixed feelings about the sequencer limitations, and just curious if you're using the OXI One to address some of those.
@Noise-Maker
@Noise-Maker Жыл бұрын
Hi Dairn! Good point. I am only sending start stop clock to the Perkons. I am really enjoying the built in sequencer and its live tweaking possibilities. I havent found myself wishing for anything personally from the Perkons Sequencer. I never need to use the OXI to take over. Every time I think it needs a feature i find a work around - Example is not having a simple 64 or 128 pattern length. I could stitch 4 pattens together or what I always do is use the ODDS1 and trigger notes on 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 or 1/8 to avoid super repetitive 16 step loops. You also have ODDS2 for percentage of triggering, Probability, and Pattern length all on the fly of your live performance. Divide, Multiply, Groove, Shuffle and even a play mode that sends your pattern FWD, BWD, PP and Random! If I feel some modulating is needed it has it. If I feel the need to record knob movements on the fly, it has it. All these things can be done live. It has lots of creative stuff going for it. Just remember its built with many features to help the live performer. Or one looking to turn on the DAW and record live jams then post process a track. I would look over the manual and see if any game breaking features are missing, but just know you can get around a lot with the features it has.

amazing, I've been looking at the oxi Perkons and perfourmer for some time now, the Perkons is due to arrive tomorrow, going to learn that then add in the oxi towards the end of the year with some old synths I have lying around, then grabbing something like a perfourmer the following year to complete the studio. great vid 👍 can you tell me more about using a computer for fx. what audio interface are you using, is there any lag and which fx you use?
@Noise-Maker
@Noise-Maker Жыл бұрын
Hi Rob! I use the Behringer U-Phoria UMC1820 USB Audio Interface connected to a Windows 11 PC running Bitwig as my DAW. I set my tempo on the OXI and then manually set tempo on Bitwig so my delays are in sync. I create audio tracks with inputs from the Perkons and put my FX chains on those tracks. I also have the main outs of the Perkons going to its own audio track as well. I can do a more detailed run down on a video. I have no latency that affects timing. Thanks for the wonderful comment! Hope that helps a little.

Great video! Any idea how many instruments can be connected to the OXI via midi? Looks like their midi adapter only has 2 inputs. I am considering getting one. Thanks
@Noise-Maker
@Noise-Maker Жыл бұрын
Hi Ory, you can have 16 instruments. If you buy the Split for $60 you can have up to 48 instruments. The Split has Outs 1, 2, 3 and a Thru. Forgot to mention it also has 8 CV and 8 Gate outputs as well. They work great but takes a moment to get your head wrapped around the matrix and all the different ways to CV and Gate your signals. Thanks for the comment and watching!!! Let me know if you have any more questions on it.
