My terrible experiences with JLCPCB

I had hoped that there would be a resolution where JLC stood behind their production and quality but at the end of the day, I was offered $100 dollars, less than 5% of what I lost in bad product they shipped to me. I asked if they could just replace or refund and have been forced into seeking paypal disputes and credit card charge backs for "library" parts used.
I would say, if you you doing a small run prototype they might be quick, easy and cheap. If you are spending more than a few hundred dollars you are willing to burn, then I would think twice.
PCBBuy.com
AllPCB.com
PCBWay.com
Are all great alternatives with MUCH better service. We had damaged pcbs from PCBway in the past and they immediately replaced all the damaged goods.
In addition to just quality, the over all attitude and customer service of JLCPCB is completely lacking. I received multiple different stories about why my items were delayed (every order I placed shipped late) and what was going on. Even now, they are doing very backhanded conniving things like telling me, My boss can't approve a settlement unless you cancel the paypal dispute. When I say, ok, well how much will they approve if I cancel the dispute (which can not be reopened) they say nothing. It's a sham trying to get me to remove my only recourse.
This is my experience. I know other people have had better ones, but I think people need to be aware of this. If you have questions or comments, l please feel free to ask below.

I've used JLCPCB many times, and never once have they had questions for me. They just produced exactly what I had asked for.

Well... I guess if you do the numbers, for me they were about 85% effective, it just was a very expensive 15%. I think the thing that is most disturbing is that we all have times when things go wrong, but they literally blamed EVERYONE else but them. The crazy part is that they packed 300+ boards perfectly so they were safe and with no issues, but in the ones they packed differently so the pins they installed were up against the other PCB, they insisted, despite putting in extra packaging and charging me, that it was my fault because I didn't ask them to pack the pcbs safely, DHL's fault for not handling them properly, My fault for having them build the pcbs so they were more valuable, the list went on an on. Basically what they told me was, we did everything right, so the ones you got packed properly, those were lucky, not competent work. This, these scratched ones, these are our standard of work.

@poopoppy how are they not getting paid? If that's your conclusion, there is very little point in any further discussion

I've used JLCPCB for many years and only had small defects on 1 or 2 orders, which is a PITA, but mostly their service and quality is quite good. They like to offer discount vouchers when some pcb's have defects but I've found, like the you say in the video, some engineers are not up to scratch and produce a lower quality board. My orders have always arrived very well packed and I never use the special packing option. I always keep in mind that the service is great value and expecting 24 hour customer service is asking a bit too much when their working hours are not like yours.

I don't know what worries me more, the PCB manufacturers saying that the standards change depending on which engineer reviews the design, or you saying that everyone makes mistakes and indicating that you know it well as a surgeon...:) My experience with PCB manufacturers is rather limited. I have devised just a couple of very simple boards to control lights and point motors in my railroad layout. I had PCBWAY to make the PCBs (I've done all the soldering work) and I'm very satisfied with the final product. But as I said, my PCBs were very simple and just for internal use. I would like to know how this issue of yours ended...

I have had similar experiences with their 3D printing. They delivered a bunch of half-way printed buttons to me and when I asked them to replace them, they said they could ONLY offer me a 10$ coupon and no other solution. I kept pushing for a full replacement and they just stopped responding. They also didn't even send me the coupon... And some of their resin prints are HORRIBLE. They just fall apart from touching them. Especially the 8228 Resin. Last time, they sent me a bunch of broken buttons as well.... the fins that line up the buttons had just snapped off, which has never happened before and couldn't have happened during shipping because the buttons were VERY well packaged in foam and didn't move at all in there when handling the box. And the reason I know they didn't break in shipping is because one of the broken off fins wasn't even IN THE PLASTIC BAG. So they broke off when they handled them in the factory and they just took the broken parts and placed them in the bag to make it look like they had broken in shipping, but missed one piece lol. Didn't get a replacement for that either, only a 5$ coupon code. These people don't give a sh*t about quality or service.

You tried to do a production run on the cheap and you got screwed. Congrats. They are good for prototypes. I've never heard of anyone doing mass production through them.

My biggest problem with all the Chinese board houses is that the British customs authorities charging me "20 times" the price in import duty.

It's the same here, people who promote these services aren't telling you that plus the high shipping fees. These services aren't cheap.

Yeah all they care about is their own profit. I completely agree, very, very small costing orders are fine but when they wont give you your $109 and say they don't make money, "for a problem they caused." Not Ethical...

I feel you. I just had the same issue. 25% of their PCBA were deffective. I received a "20 USD" coupon for Thanksgiving. Then, this is a reorder from a previous batch, and suddenly they charge "special baking fee", and then "special component placement fee", then, its like they give you 20 USD but they end up charging 50 USD. And, after waiting one month of technicalities and waiting 24 hrs to get some random reply, you get the product, ending up with deffective parts. When complain is raised, they just tell you they can refund only a part but not the overall loss. I feel like the Chinpokomon chapter of South Park in which you get praised for your big "#$#" and sort of "fooled" while the bigger plan goes in the background. Then, after complaining, they "supposedly" refund you but that only appears on their website, the bank does not confirm that, so on top of lying, they scam you! They are so incompetent that they let go thousand dollar business for 50 USD, meaning the sales floor or whatever customer support it has, it is totally disconnected from engineering and playing childish games with the customers for whatever China Inc. plant they represent. Not good JLCPCB! You just won some another mad customer who will seek for a way to make it fair

My assembled boards where missing two 0603 capacitors. No notice, just sent me them and the batch of 20 had them all missing. I complained and they said sorry the machine ran out of them during the picknplace. Ok, then can you give me a refund? The boards are useless without them, and I don't have any these caps and soldering 0603 components by hand? fk no. They 'checked' and delayed and they would not even ship me the missing caps, and said they would give me a $5 coupon for my next order... What next order after this horrible customer service. I had about 50 boards made before with no problems. wtf Unforunately, there is not many other options.

I just did a order some expensive boards off them and this is my concern. I would do a charge back on this since you are not getting what you ordered.

@@Unscientifically charge backs have been tossed when we tried. I still use them for prototypes, but becareful! My latest fun is that they asked how to identify pin one on an IC, I sent the datasheet back to them, they replied that their engineer can not identify pin 1... time for a new engineer.

Thanks for the heads up. This kind of video is so important for people looking for a PCB supplier. It sounds as though they are fine for small quantities of bare PCBs but risky for more expensive jobs..With Chinese stuff, if it goes well it goes really well but when it goes wrong, they’re not interested in the slightest. This mindset is completely different to UK businesses where I’m pretty certain that all the companies I deal with and myself included will always refund, no questions asked or replace if required. It’s hard to get around this different mindset when you buy from China, but maybe that’s how they keep their prices so low.

Ok, tx Bryan. I am working on a prototype which I have decomposed into 3 10x10 cm board designs because in that way I can get it much cheaper. So scratches or broken off buttons do not really apply to my project. Nevertheless, I noticed that Jlcpcb kept the production going during the chinese new year holliday and so that could be a sign of exploitation of their employees. So I will give this some more thought... Basically, when something goes wrong, tuff luck to you... Which is maybe an other sign of exploitation, in this case not of their employees but of their customers...

Yeah that's bullshit - THEY produced the boards. OK so they were good then. But THEY ALSO packed them in the manner THEY did, which CAUSED the damage due to lack of attention and foresight. It's all on them AFAIAC as well. Usability is one thing - you are paying for appearance as well. You don't accept a car at a dealership with scratched to shit paint for the full retail price just because the engine runs....Hope you got your money back.

I understand some of the complaints, but expecting low paid workers to work overtime for free is ridiculous. They probably already work 12 hour days. Office hours are office hours everywhere. Would this dude expect an American company the reply back at 2am? Would he ask them to stay up, and work overtime for free? This is epitome of American entitlement. Any other place in the world understands what time zones are, and people need sleep. People around the world don't placate their time zones to suit the U.S. I know if I was one of these engineers. I wouldn't be bending over backwards to help a person that complains about everything.
