I’m so impressed with the Barista Express™ Impress! Our friends at Breville brought the Café experience to our home today! How amazing is this? ❤️
We’ve mentioned many times over the years that we’ve been incredibly lucky to work with some of the most amazing brands. This is just another example of how incredible these companies are. This morning I was treated to coffee with a café-style experience right outside my driveway.
I was given a tour of the brand new the Barista Express™ Impress and then had an opportunity to test it myself.
This machine was launched in Canada just a few short days ago, and it does “impress”, no, pun intended! 😂 If you’ve followed our feed for a while you know I’m a bit of a coffee geek. I love the experience of making the coffee almost as much as I love drinking it. The others at our home aren’t as geeky as I am. This means they want to enjoy really really good coffee, but with less fuss and less mess. This new coffee machine is the solution to that. It grinds the coffee for you, and then tamps the coffee grinds perfectly with a simple press of a lever. It will even remember your last settings so that every coffee is perfect every time. Smart huh? Oh… and no coffee grinds around the machine.
I want to thank Mercedez from Birchall & Associates Inc. and Corinna from Breville Cánada for bringinging the “Impress Café” experience to our home! This was so special! I had a great time and enjoyed a great cup of coffee (or two).

I see what you did there. 😂 Apologies… it was more to show that I was happy with the experience. having said that I’ve gotten to play with that machine and the touch impress as well since then. The tamping feature is very impressive. I tend to enjoy the manual process of making espresso, including tamping, but this is quite nice actually. The puck is consistently well prepared and it doesn’t take long at all to dial-in the grind size when I start a new bag of coffee.

what grinding size are you using in the machine settings?

I’m not sure because they had most things setup when I arrived. However I often used between 3 and 7 depending on the roast or how old the beans were on my previous barista express.

They were showcasing this espresso machine outside my house, so I haven’t used this one outside of what you saw here in the video. But I do use their barista touch impress machine at home, which is quite similar, with a few extra features. I did raise the temperature a little bit from the standard temperature and I’ve just left it that way. As for the grind, I typically don’t need to change that within the same bag of beans. I find a good setting and leave it that way for the bag I’m using. Mind you I go through bags pretty quick. I do usually have to adjust every time I switch beans. Different brands, different roasts, and different age of coffee beans will make a difference for your grind setting. I’m not sure I’m helping you much but this is how I treat it.

Hi Anthony, we have one ready for unboxing, but may daily driver is the barista Pro. I have a few recommendations though that might help. This is standard practice for most machines. You’ll want to dial in your shot for each new bag of coffee. Different roasts grind differently . Aim for a shot that takes between 25 and 30 seconds from the time you press go to the shot ending. This is my favourite timing window. Some folks like a longer pull. This is personal preference. If you find that your shot is done in 20 seconds, change to a finer grind setting… or… grind more. A common amount is 18 grams of beans in case you have a precise scale. It might feel like a lot, but it should make for a nice shot. Remember, you can always pause the grinding, shake or tap the portafilter a bit to settle the grinds and then continue. I play around with these settings every time I change coffee bags. If you’re already a seasoned coffee guy, I’ll apologize in advanced, I may just have wasted your time with these recommendations. One last thing. I used to have the barista express which is a similar machine. Watch your gauge. If the needle is too low from the optimum centre area, grind finer or grinds more beans. You should be looking for a shot that looks like caramel coming out. I’m no coffee professional, but reach out if you have more questions, I’d be happy to help figure this out.

@Photosandfood
@Photosandfood 11 ай бұрын
I’m not positive what the grind settings were because this was a roadshow unit and they made the coffee for me. I have the touch impress at home. I can think of a couple of things that might make your shots taste bitter. I would use the time it takes for the shot to come out as a gauge for your grind settings. Try to aim for 25 to 30 seconds for the shot to come out. If it’s a lot more than that consider making your grind size courser. Even the beans you’re using make a difference. I usually have to adjust settings between each bag of coffee. The type of coffee or roast date can affect how you need to change your grind settings. I hope this helps a little. These machines are capable of making a very good cup of coffee.

They’re both great machines and it depends on the user’s preference. My wife and older son prefer the impress because it’s easier to pull a great shot. I personally prefer the less automated. It’s my zen moment when I’m weighing, distributing, tamping etc. Also, I prefer the digital display. Liz prefers the pressure gauge. They’re both built really well.

Thanks for commenting. As for your question, if you mean the space, it was part of a promotional event to launch this new machine from Breville and their PR agency. They actually drove this unit to my house and I got to enjoy it right outside my driveway. If you mean the coffee itself, they used a fresh roast by Propeller, a Toronto-based coffee roaster that sells amazing coffee.
