What makes the jetboil brand the most popular outdoor cooking system for hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities.
I paid £40 for this second-hand jetboil flash cooking system, I put the jetboil to test with a water boil time test ..

My initial thought is that JetBoil was the first to the market with this technology. It seems to be an efficient solution, compared to stoves without a heat exchanger. Others followed and their burners produce similar results. We would have to dig deeper into durability of materials to reach a conclusion of what brand was worth what money.

Been a user of it for over a decade. I believe Jetboil were the first with that design and then lots followed. I have made thousands of brews with mine. Bought a smaller one last year because i like them. At the end of the day.....they boil water. Many other things do too. Lovers and loathers out there. Just make a brew. 🙂

I have a Jetboil Zip which is the smallest and cheapest in their range. Love it because it’s never let me down, everything I need for a brew is contained within the package and it’s quick to give me a mug full of boiling water for a cup of hot chocolate on a freezing winter’s day. I can cut up some raw veg and boil them up - pair those with some cold meat cuts and I have a plateful of fresh food. One of the small cans of gas, 100g, lasts a week away cycle camping. I like plain things and the Zip is just black. Other stoves like the OEX are laity in their colours and make my head hurt 😁

I have to agree with you Dan, I'm sure it's just the JetBoil name that's the selling point. I have to confess I bought one recently from Millets when they had a closing down sale and they were reduced from £105 to £65. I got a further 10% discount with a voucher but it doesn't do anything different from an old stove i had previously that I paid £12 on eBay second hand. Great honest video again. Cheers

I've got 3 different jetboils, minimo, zip and sumo titanium......as well as other stoves like msr pocket rocket and meths stoves. The best thing about jetboils is the efficiency....a 100g gas canister lasts a lot longer than my other/previous gas stoves. Also, jetboil were the first company to make this style of stove, everyone else copied them. That doesn't mean other stoves aren't good, but jetboil are the original and also have good after sales service, you can buy spare parts for them, I bet not many cheaper brands do that.

Most of the comments are really about, how long they last. I’ve had mine for over 10 years and it still works as well as it did when it was new, I’m not sure the Chinese copies will still be going strong after 10 years of abuse, but, until mine breaks, I’ll still stick with it. Good video though mate.

I've never been to impressed with these. I feel they are just for boiling water. They have a much to narrow flame to heat a frying pan evenly. Besides they are very noisy. I much prefer a Firebox g2 twig stove or a trangia spirit burner. They may not be as fast, but they are much more quiet and going camping is not a race! It's all about having a great time! Thank you for sharing!👊🏻

That's why they have other stoves in the range lol the flash it for boiling water quick so u can make a brew or put cook in the bag hydrated or even non hydrated bags in in minutes, they also have the mini mo with a fully working regulator so can simmer or cook with the pan attachment I use both when I'm away in my lorry for a quick brew or butty and I also have a ninja air fryer and a kettle in my lorry... gues what gets used the most.... for camping and tramping in my lorry?

We got one YEARS ago and it cost nothing like that. The idea was to leave it in the car for emergency drinks if stuck in snow in the winter ... you must now how bad Bradford city centre gets :) The compact nature of the beast was it's main selling point but, if truth be known, we haven't actually used it.

I would of liked to try one of these but never really thought the price was justified Dan, i have always used a small gas cooker and tin cup to make a brew or heat food and have been very happy, i have used the same setup for over thirty years, i feel it is far more stable as low to the ground and if i should run out of gas or the cooker fails i can just carry on with a small stick fire or the British Army Hexamine stove i always carry as a back up, your channel is brill mate and always right on point, good job Dan and all the best, Ste.

I’m not tight when it comes to camping gear as I want to be as comfortable as possible when camping but I do think there are certain things you should spend money on and other things can be “bargain bin” items . I paid $10 Australian dollars for a jet boil type stove I’ve been using for over 5 years and it does the job just as well as friends who have a Jet boil . Each to their own, the most important thing is getting out and enjoying nature.

Definitely some good points made here! I've been contemplating which stove to buy, and jetboil seems like one of the best options, but the 'new' price tag certainly makes me gawp! One thing i have noticed though, is the range of great-looking accesories for the jetboil. In particular the coffee press- a press which is used directly into the stove. Some of the accessories are also very expensive though. Overall i think it often comes down to budget (or finding a cheap deal!), and how much you can really afford to sacrifice with space for additional accessories!

I always wanted a Jetboil but couldn't justify the high price of them. So then a few months ago you recommended the OEX Hiero stove. After reading other reviews on it I went over to Go Outdoors in Wakefield and bought it. Having now used the OEX stove about 20 times I can't see what all the fuss of Jetboils is about. My stove boils 400mils of water in just over 2 minutes, and this has been consistant over the last couple of months. Brand loyalty is one thing, but why pay twice as much for something that does the same thing, makes no sense, particularly in this day and age..........

If it makes the difference between carrying a second gas canister on a multi day camp it might be worthwhile. I have never used a jetboil but from what I have heard they can’t be adjusted for intensity of flame so you can’t simmer, basically only good for boiling water. When I camp it is pretty much always on motorcycle trips so while weight and volume carried is of some concern it isn’t as critical as when backpacking.

Great video Dan, I have 3 different types of Jetboil and they are all fantastic. The build quality is much better than cheaper makes. I also have a Jobsworth x2 stove which cost me £30 a few years ago and it works very well too. When you compare like for like the Jetboil is the better stove but what let’s the Jetboil down is the price. The quality isn’t that much better to justify a price double or triple the price of other similar stoves. I have noticed that other stoves of the same quality as the Jetboil are very expensive too, MSR Windburner is around the same price as the Jetboil Flash. I guess it’s a case of what you can afford and what you need the stove for.

I was so lucky buying my Jetboil Flash a few years ago, the major retailer had priced it incorrectly on the epos system, I took it to the till fingers crossed and got it brand new for 35 quid, at least a 50 quid saving. I used mine a lot, it's a good bit of kit but just recently I've started using a GSI cookset with a MSR Pocket Rocket only because its more compact for bikepacking.

I think it's important to keep in mind that the Jetboil was first with this technology, all the others are essentially copies, so obviously they're all very similar. With that in mind, there's nothing else special about it. The Jetboil Flash 2 is a little quicker (apparently) but who's in a rush when camping? The heat indicator goes orange well before water is actually boiled, so no real use a lot of the time. Thankfully I got my Jetboil Flash 2.0 for a similar price to the OEX Heiro, as I'm not sure it's really worth the RRP. But then again, it is their technology, they put all of the design and research into it, of course those who've copied it don't have that historic expense to work into the pricing, so maybe it is justified.

I have had the Jetboil Zip for ages, a good size set up for a quick brew. After a while I decided to get a bigger set, but I thought the price was a bit high so I got a similar one made by Highlander. My opinion for what it's worth is that the heat exchanger pots are no different between the brands. The neoprene sleeves on the Jetboil, are much better quality, and the burner unit is much more powerful compared to the cheaper stove. Overall the Jetboil performs better, and feels a better quality product. I heard you say that you didn't like comparing different systems, but you are in a unique position seeing as you have a few different types of stoves. I'd be interested in your views after a few months testing the Jetboil. All the best Mally

TBH I got the first Jetboil back in the day the PCS as it called back then and circa. 2007 and it cost £70 , it was the only type on the market at the time, I used the original for well over a decade then ive since got the flash and the MiniMo but the one I use the most is the FireMaple X2, I like the fold out handle and the fact you can fit an 300g gas cart and its accessories all inside the stove, also the X2 can fit 2 ration pack meals inside at once. Oh and it only cost £25 new....about 7 years ago.

Jetboil was the first to utilise heat exchanger technology however that was many moons ago and now the competition is available at all price points when Jetboil first launched the premium was justified in today’s market though it’s a different story there’s no difference to a cheaper alternative apart from the jet boil name and marketing continuing to push sales a plus to the Jetboil the skillet is amazing but again at £50 for a frying pan is it really worth it, just to throw a spanner in the works the MSR Windburner really is a top notch bit of kit in terms of performance in wind it really is next level performance, however again like you say is it worth the hyper inflated price and is it really worth it when a £40 stove will boil water in most scenarios in a similar timeframe. High end there’s also the MSR reactor but I can’t personally comment on its performance as I don’t own one.

Never used one. I just did an 86km hike but I was using a Toaks titanium 750ml pot, 77g Coleman F1 stove and a gas bottle. In all it’s quite light and very space saving as it all fits inside (except a 230g gas bottle). One day I may try but at the moment I can’t see the need or expense. Quite honestly my Coleman F1 at 77g and 4800W is the best stove I have used. It comes apart in 2 pieces and fits inside a closed fist. That’s more than good enough for boiling under the time of the jetboil.

I have a jetboil. What i have found is that it is very efficient and very quick to boil. But i have got bored with it. The only reason is it boils water too quick. I enjoy boiling my water and watching nature tv do it. When i'm out walking i take a flask, occasionally my jet boil for a quick brew, but overall its a quick way to fill my flask before night or my water bottle. Sometimes people miss the point of making a brew in the outdoors. Cant beat burning a few twigs with a metal mug. :)

The JetBoil might be a tad lighter and maybe has a slightly better finish but the cheap version is plenty good enough. Dan - it's an interesting question though. My oldest Trangia is now 46 years old. It's as good as new and I am glad I bought it despite the premium price. Some times it's worth paying for the original product and they pay for themselves over time, but I don't think that is the case with the JetBoil.

The only possible difference I can imagine might be IF the Jetboil had a micro regulator, not sure if it has/has not. Then when you are cooking using a normal pot it would be easier to simmer and you would still get and regular flame when your gas cannister was running low on gas. The other possibility would be size and how well it packs away, thinking about space in the backpack.

That's the old version I think, my jetboil flash 2 boils a pot in 100 seconds, the newer ones can hold a low simmer flame aswel , i payed 80 quid for my new jetboil flash 2 with a 100g tin of gas , I think the oex one is just as good but half the price I can fry a couple if eggs in 2-3 minutes with my little ali skillet pan aswel 😂

Hi Daniel hope your all good. Love your videos, you have got me back into camping. I have a suggestion for you if you fancy something a little different for your content? I have a SIB (inflatable boat with engine) I want to get on the water and do some wild camps! If your interested then let me know. Boat is licensed for lake Windermere and most uk rivers. Would love to do Loch Lomond and camp on the island and find the wallabies. I don’t want to put my phone number or email on here but if you want to chat more then I’m sure we can find a way 👍🏻 Happy for you to use camera etc, let me know your thoughts Dave

I do like my jetboil for when I’m absolutely desperate for a coffee in the morning, but using the gas burner option in my trangia isn’t much slower.

If you're on a 7 day hike with one gas canister then maybe a slightly faster boil is worth it? But for me the new OEX Heiro is all I need from a gas stove and they're much cheaper.

at the end of the day if the stove you use , build water and cooks food how you want it , it doesn't have to be branded , over the years camping on sites we've tried branded v non branded and there has really been little difference , other than cost , interested to see what you have planned

The deal is you burn less fuel. When you're out in the woods, it's all about less weight. You could carry one less canister. Or not carrying qn extra one!

So one of the key differences is during adverse conditions it does apparently perform quicker but but but…. The lid on mine warped after around 20 boils and then obviously become mad inefficient cause of the heat loss at the top 🤷🏼‍♂️ swings and round abouts I suppose

Its the finish at the bottom of the bowl, it doesnt last; I`ve been using mine with exclusively a plastic folding camping spork just for coffee and its on the metal at the bottom meaning i been drinking whichever compound that the innards are coated with so no....buy cheap not better than the others and dont say that 20-30 seconds less time to boil a given amount of water is nothing, a whole bunch of "influencers" base their whole existence on measuring that parameter :) hahaha

You're right in what you say, Dan. There isn't anything special with the Jetboil. I have one for convenience it's quick it's handy, it's clean to use, and so is my oex stove, which performs just like the Jetboil. However, 90% or the time I use my trangia stove.

A quiet trangia spirit burner, is good enough for me, jet boiler or whatever other brands, to noisy to bulky to expensive to just save a few minutes on boiling water, that is just my personal opinion

I have a campmaster brand and find it does the same job as the jet oil it takes an extra 1 min 30secs to boil that’s the only difference apart from the price

Never fancied a jetboil, I would rather use a silent Trangia or a nice crackle of a fire and enjoy nature. A jet turbine in the woods doesn't appeal. Though I can see it being handy in the wind maybe but that thing looks like a dodgy balancing act. Wouldn't rest having that in a windy tent vestibule. Also for cooking I turn the heat low so not to burn food. Think Paul messner said it turns down heat more accurate than cheaper copies tho.

Let's be real, out of comparable products the one with the best marketing team will be able to command a premium price. Not sure why that's such a mystery to folks, it's marketing 101 and applies to every product ever made. For comparable products & service marketing works, that it and all there is to know.

To get down to about 1min 30 sec for a 500ml boil I will just use an ancient Coleman F1 Power (Now called a Fyrepower) stove for £20 and an old Primus Etapower Pot 1.7L
