If you're struggling with chronic pain, it's important to find the right physical therapist and approach for your pain. Many people don't put in enough effort to finding the right physical therapist and just go to whoever their insurance covers or who their doctor sends them to. But if physical therapy didn't work for you, it's likely just that that approach didn't work for you and you should continue to work to find the right physical therapist. Look for someone who incorporates strength training and has a high level of knowledge and care. Don't be discouraged if you've tried one or two physical therapists and they didn't work out - there are many physical therapists out there and it's worth it to find the right one for you. Remember that physical exercise and strength training is crucial for most people suffering from chronic pain, and chances are it will work for you if you find the right therapist and approach.

Nearly seven years of chronic pain. I've prob seen over 15 physical therapists at this point in the last seven years of chronic pain and still haven't found the right one. Every time I see one I hype myself up that maybe this will be "the one" that will help me get my life back to normal. I've started choosing ones that specifically have a lot of Yelp reviews of people talking about getting better from chronic pain but it's still been a struggle to find one that could alleviate my chronic pain. Thanks for the video I won't give up on finding the right pt for me! :)

I'm terribly sorry to hear that. We have found that sometimes patients need something to get them 'out of the hole' in order for PT to really start making an impact. In our clinic, this is often a properly targeted PRP injection

@@DrewTimmermansND thanks for the reply. I will look into prp but from what I've heard is that it can be expensive.

I appreciate all of content you put out ! I know its time consuming! With regards to PT A LOT are bad ! Unfortunately a lot is outsourced in the practice to not very qualified trainers under a " Therapist " prescription ! They are just going through the motions ! I even experienced a practice that would up pain meds the result patients feeling better short term and linking with the PT !

In my experience, strength training and removing adhesions in soft tissues helps a lot even when you don't specifically target the cause of pain. However, it's not always enough and/or sometimes, your cause of pain will not be identified properly. In my case, for one of my problems, it took 5 years to identify the problematic tissue (bicep aponeurosis) and we still don't know what to do with it. Seeing my doc this week.

I couldn't agree more with your statements...to a degree. It's not that easy to find a competent PT. In the last four years I have seen multiple PTs (at least 10), different practitioners and doctors, none have been able to help me. So my question is how do I find the right PT? What do I base my search on? What do I ask them? They all state on their websites that they treat the same medical conditions. How do I know that they can actually treat my condition? Do you have any recommendations or suggestions as to what we should be looking for in finding the correct PT? Who do you send your patients to in Arizona? I will call them and talked to them about my condition. However, I know that they will not tell me anything until they do an evaluation. BTW, thanks for the information you put out, great stuff. And, I wish I lived closer to Arizona I would be coming to see you.

This is the million dollar question, and it's so hard to answer. Here's what I will say as general advice: 1. Work with a PT who doesn't take insurance so that you get 1 on 1 time with the physical therapist every single time (not a PT tech) 2. Find someone who focuses their practice on your area of pain. So if you have back pain, call the clinics and ask what the PT's biggest focus is, and do this before you tell them what you have going on.

Great video! For me, physical therapy failed me. I couldn't see going to PT when they weren't helping. Finally, I got help from a sports doctor who said PT gave me the wrong exercises. I wasn't an athlete. I found the sports doctor after years of searching for answers. I eventually discovered I was suffering from the side effects of antibiotics which messed up my joints. Thanks for encouraging people not to give up! I still have joint problems and pain but I feel better doing the right exercises. I can't imagine where I'd be today if I quit exercising altogether.

@@chriswilliams5291 Thank you. And the title was simply a sports doctor or a doctor who works with athletes. One word though of advice, I regret getting cortisone injections which the sports doctor encouraged me to get. The injections weren't helpful and there's a lot of research now saying cortisone weakens joints

@@DrewTimmermansND I see, but as E P Manual therapy says, then most physiotherapists are edcuated to caretake training after surgery; May that be the reason for the problems people have, if not getting good physio, you think, and is it really the case, that physios are educated to caretake recovery after surgery (allmost only)?
