I have recently taken a liking to The Amplified Bible Expanded Edition. More often than not it's been quite helpful in clarifying the text.

I think the best way to look at the Amplified is as a study aid and not your go-to translation. It's not perfect, but I like the concept behind it. I have a small one on my bookshelf, but maybe I'll pick up a copy of this study edition for the collection. Great video.👍

I use it as a study aid along with my NKJV. Love it for that purpose.

I’ve always loved the Amplified Bible - especially the Classic Edition, not so much the updated one, e.g. any newly printed post 2015. I think used correctly it adds a lot to one’s understanding of the Bible text. Thanks for the work you do. Rarely see any Bible reviewer talk about the Amplified. It is a shame also that Lockman does not think the Amplified worthy of some beautification, e.g. nice leather cover, etc.

I really enjoy it too, but it isn't a big seller so they probably won't touch it much.

The Amplified Bible was the very first bible I ever had. I still have it though now I tend to only use it during study to compare notes. I think, it is a very good translation for anyone new to the bible, as it can be extremely helpful in understanding what you're reading. Given without the (expansions) it is very closely related to the Nasb, which is my go to now. Read them side by side and you'll see what I mean. I can see how it could lead to self interpretation, though I didn't have those issues. I actually enjoy the 1975 translation as it credits the (expansions) to those who provided them, individually, and the (expansions) are less cumbersome/ lengthy providing a better reading experience and clearer definition. A lot of people take issue with The Amplified Bible but you have to understand that the (expansions) are not an addition to scripture but merely a help in understaning for those unfamiliar. 👍

Great insight brother. I have always been curious about this translation. I may get one to add to my collection. But I appreciate the warning as well. We need to be careful.

You guys are aware that the Amplified 2015 version, unlike the Classic version, can be read without reading what's inside the brackets right? It makes for a smoother reading. What's inside the brackets are just to try to help you get a better meaning and clarity behind the verses. It's no different than what every other english translation does, including the KJV, when they use italicized words that were not in the original languages in order to try to make the english make more sense.
@anickelsworthbiblereviews
@anickelsworthbiblereviews 9 ай бұрын
It is COMPLETELY different than italicized words. Those words are added for clarity. The bracketed words are added in addition to the already translated word to show options of what it could mean.

I love the layout, but I do not like the choose-the-word aspect of the Bible. Sure is not a Bible to read aloud.

I like my NKJV/AMP Parallel Bible. I don't use it a lot, but I do like reading NKJV side and just jump over to the Amp side to compare. I also had Christians from the third world countries asking for Amp Bibles, looks like they love them quite a bit.

I prefer the older version of the amplified version because the extra words are in parentheses. I find that easier to read.

My mother in law has come up with some “unique” interpretations using the Amplified. It wasn’t amped up enough, so she’s moved on to The Passion translation.

At least the 2015 Amplified Bible is not as egregious and annoying as the earlier editions. The Beatitudes are still unreadable in this edition, though. Matthew 5.3-11 AMP Classic: Blessed (happy, to be envied, and spiritually prosperous-with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the poor in spirit (the humble, who rate themselves insignificant), for theirs is the kingdom of heaven! Blessed and enviably happy [with a happiness produced by the experience of God’s favor and especially conditioned by the revelation of His matchless grace] are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted! Blessed (happy, blithesome, joyous, spiritually prosperous-with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the meek (the mild, patient, long-suffering), for they shall inherit the earth! Blessed and fortunate and happy and spiritually prosperous (in that state in which the born-again child of God enjoys His favor and salvation) are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God), for they shall be completely satisfied! Blessed (happy, to be envied, and spiritually prosperous-with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy! Blessed (happy, enviably fortunate, and spiritually prosperous-possessing the happiness produced by the experience of God’s favor and especially conditioned by the revelation of His grace, regardless of their outward conditions) are the pure in heart, for they shall see God! Blessed (enjoying enviable happiness, spiritually prosperous-with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the makers and maintainers of peace, for they shall be called the sons of God! Blessed and happy and enviably fortunate and spiritually prosperous (in the state in which the born-again child of God enjoys and finds satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of his outward conditions) are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake (for being and doing right), for theirs is the kingdom of heaven! Blessed (happy, to be envied, and spiritually prosperous-with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of your outward conditions) are you when people revile you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil things against you falsely on My account. Matthew 5.3-11 AMP 2015: “Blessed [spiritually prosperous, happy, to be admired] are the poor in spirit [those devoid of spiritual arrogance, those who regard themselves as insignificant], for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [both now and forever]. “Blessed [forgiven, refreshed by God’s grace] are those who mourn [over their sins and repent], for they will be comforted [when the burden of sin is lifted]. “Blessed [inwardly peaceful, spiritually secure, worthy of respect] are the gentle [the kind-hearted, the sweet-spirited, the self-controlled], for they will inherit the earth. “Blessed [joyful, nourished by God’s goodness] are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness [those who actively seek right standing with God], for they will be [completely] satisfied. “Blessed [content, sheltered by God’s promises] are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. “Blessed [anticipating God’s presence, spiritually mature] are the pure in heart [those with integrity, moral courage, and godly character], for they will see God. “Blessed [spiritually calm with life-joy in God’s favor] are the makers and maintainers of peace, for they will [express His character and] be called the sons of God. “Blessed [comforted by inner peace and God’s love] are those who are persecuted for doing that which is morally right, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [both now and forever]. “Blessed [morally courageous and spiritually alive with life-joy in God’s goodness] are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil things against you because of [your association with] Me." Come on, Lockman Foundation. This is getting into Passion Translation territory. Just give one or two amplifications for the first "blessed" and be done with it! Here is the 2015 text without the nonsense: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. “Blessed are the gentle, for they will inherit the earth. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. “Blessed are the makers of peace, for they will be called the sons of God. “Blessed are those who are persecuted for doing that which is morally right, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil things against you because of Me." See? There's a good translation in there.

What leaning do the study notes have. Are they reformed, amillennial, or arminian (non-reformed), pre-millennial. Conservative, liberal or in the middle.

@@anickelsworthbiblereviews Same! I was in the Word of Faith movement when I was first saved, but eventually took issue with many of their teachings. Now I consider myself "charismatic with a seat belt" and read and listen to more scholarly charismatics, such as Craig Keener, Dr Michael Brown, etc. and go to an AG church here in Minnesota pastored by Rob Ketterling.
