The best and only way to get rid of tinnitus is to ignore it. I really learned how to do this in the past month and it really works, and I have it REALLY bad. Bad enough where I can hear it over a jackhammer. What you have to do is say "f*ck it" That's all there is to it. Just accept it, the more you treat it like minor sh*t the more you will ignore it. I mean it could be worse, you could have cancer, or be blind or paralyzed. Tinnitus is little sh*t just say to hell with it, and you know what happens when you think like that? The brain ignores it. It took me a month to get like that now I barely notice it. Treat is like this mornings sh*t you flushed down the toilet, sorry for the curses but that is exactly how you have to see it. It is sh*t, crap, dog foo it's nothing,

thank you so much for putting yourself out there and voicing your thoughts on this. i developed tinnitus about 4 months ago. i'm a sound engineer and this has been terrifying for me. being such a unique experience, its hard for others to sympathise with the effect it has on your life. i empathise with pretty much everything youve said, especially the new found sympathy for people with other ailments. its your kind of input that really helps. hope youre well

Really interesting video. Thank you for uploading. I got tinnitus back in 2008. It was horrendous and I became very depressed but I'm pleased to say I have learn't to live with it now and accept it. It is a cliche but once you accept it it becomes easier to ignore. It is one of the most lonely diseases. If you or anyone reading this ever needs any support from someone that understands let me know. Thanks for sharing your story - it's going to make many people feel less isolated!

Finally a realistic video on Tinnitus! I've had it for about 5 years now, I believe it was caused from birth control implant but I could be wrong, I never went to night clubs or anything as a teen. I've lived with it up to now, I'm starting to feel very very depressed now and don't know what to do. The ENT was a waste of time!! Laura xo

Thanks for sharing your story. I've suffered since '98. There's no easy answers and successful "treatment" appears to be measured not by eliminating the tinnitus, but by improving our attitudes towards it. Not an easy life but we're not alone.

Thank you so much for your honesty and awareness. Iv'e had titnitus for a year now and have been to 2 eare doctors and they both said their is NO cure. They did mention masking the sound but that is about it. I left feeing like I wanted to freak out as you said and have been very depressed about it. I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night like last night and started freaking out about it, I think to myself, "Oh my gosh, as I get older my hearing will get worse with age and this high pitch noise in my head is going to get louder". That is when I begin to loose it and think to myself, I don't think I can go on living this way if and when it gets worse. It's good to hear on youtube people speaking of this. I am not alone, I see that now. Thank you again.

I used to wake up in the middle of the night and start freaking out also. I would sometimes shout at the noise to stop and then just start pacing from wall to wall. I didn't think I would ever sleep through the night again. But a year later I am sleeping much better although I still struggle. I hate it.

on the verge of tears hearing (no pun intended) this.....i'm a musician myself, around 8 months in now, and though it's had its' ups and downs (christmas day, for some reason, was almost unbearable) i have to say mine isn't at a place where it really upsets me. the first three or four months were the hardest months of my life, but fingers crossed, it seems to have plateaued for now. still, it's massively comforting to hear a fellow musician talk candidly and openly about T. thank you so much. xx

I know you made this about 2 years ago, but I'm really glad to find this! I have tinnitus from my ear drum rupturing on a plane. I didn't take any antibiotics or drops and it just cleared up on its own. I had it before from a concert and it went away in a few months. I'm hopeful it'll go away or resolve itself, so I try not to stress and make sure I get to the ENT every year.

I feel for you. I have the same high-pitch ringing in my left ear. right ear is fine. most nights I sleep OK but 1-2 night a week it really bothers me around bedtime. I downloaded an iPad app called 'Sharp Mind' that helps on those nights. Went to an ENT specialist today and learned I have moderate to severe hearing loss for freq > 5KHz. Not surprised. Thank you for taking the time for this. It it is a REAL medical condition and it's affecting my life.

My tinnitus came last year after many years of never knowing of the threat. My ears did go through what I term a process before the ringing started in earnest. I did go to a Alice Cooper show in Reno that was very loud and left me numb for hours. I would have never done that knowing AC played that loud. I started hearing clicks and ringing for short periods.... only minutes, but then one day it never went away. Thanks for posting this and continue to follow up with anything that might help

Dude, thank you so much for sharing your experience. I also live in San Diego and suffer from Tinnitus. On October first 2012, I woke up thinking the smoke alarm was going off in my house. To my horror I soon realized the piercing sound was inside my head. Unlike your tinnitus, mine is not trauma induced. I have no clue what caused mine. Just appeared on 10/1/12. My tinnitus is gnarly! Both ears and rinning at about 6500htz!! I appreciate you sharing your experience, it encouraged me!

Agree 100%. Some reliefs I find are listening to sounds you can hear on a "white noise" app, chillout music, some relaxing sounds videos on youtube are very helpful also, the loudness of the tinnitus can be reduced after a few minuted . Avoid stress, salty foods, caffeine. I had a habit of listening to almost everything with headphones this plus being in loud noise environments are a result of my tinnitus, reducing the volume on your ipod etc and avoiding the louder areas at gigs I Recommend!!

Thanks for this great vid, really informative & I can relate to so much. Nice to know you're not alone :) I've had it for a year and was very distressed at first but with time it gets easier. I've learned how to control the volume & I can get it to low levels so I can go about life without noticing it. The brain gets used to it as well, so you don't stress anymore. Lifestyle helps, I did juice fasting once & by 3rd day it was pretty much gone. It comes back if I am not healthy tho :(

ive had tinnitus for 4 years, everyones different but this is a few things which helped me, get a Q tip, place inside about 2 millimetres inside your nostril and find your ticklish 'donot place it up any further ' start to twiggle it until you start to sneeze, after short while your nose will be running, any congestion you have especially if you feel is related to your tinnitus, will be cleared, takes bit getting use to, finding your ticklish spot. really helped me and my tinnitus, completely va

Welcome to the club. I have had it for fifteen years and got it from hearing loud music on the headphones. It gets worse if I drink alcohol and at night can be a complete pain. I was lucky in that I got it diagnosed by one of the best ear doctors in Portugal where he told me immediately that there was no known cure for it. I gather that in Israel they do some sessions where they try to minimize the sound and that will set you back a few thousand €uros. Babra Streisand and Phil Collins both have it, if that is any consolation!

Hi, I have seen your vids, I am from The Netherlands and I am a musician as well. In 2007 i got tinnitus with hyperacusis. It was so terrible and severe I could not talk with people anymore. No it is much better. I am 32 years now and protect my ears when the sounds are too loud and keep doing nice things in life. With a big psychological focus the symptoms will worsen. It can become really less!

Thank You for Sharing Your Story. I am sorry you are going through all this. I was hit with a super loud noise one time 92 days or so ago. Instant ringing. I learned 54 days later about a hyperbaric chamber for 90 minutes at 1.8 to 2.4 range. Been 30 days seemed to help a little just wish I new when the accident first happened. Instead I took Corticosteroids and that stopped my healing in my opinion and did nothing but horrible side effects.

Thank you for sharing this and thank you for being "real" and for not trying to shill a useless pill or product. (There is a special place in hell for that Quietus huckster.) You articulately summarize the feelings and anguish that I felt when I acquired tinnitus years ago. White noise does help -- especially at night. That's been a godsend, actually. There have been good days and not so good days, but my experience has been that it actually does get better. Thanks again.

I wish you luck and hope that you and I and all the people that have this get a cure. Mine came out of no where... First it was wax in both ears now nothing... No cause for mine but it was a dark road for me, took me 6-8 weeks to get used to it, but as I told myself, why worry about such noise and move on, like napping, sleeping or eating? I hope this helps and works for most of you.

I wish all people luck and hope they find the cure, me I still have it as of this month when typing it, awhile back as of late Feburary of 2011. It screwed with me, but I learned to cope with it, for example, I still hear my blood being pumped through my ears ( that ocean noise when you put a shell to your ear) When my cat starts annoying me with his meows I used ear plugs and I fell asleep to the ringing. I used mine as an asset, not a weakness.

Thank you for this. I had tinnitus when I was 18 and it nearly drove me demented for a while but eventually I became habituated. However, I am now 46 and have found it has suddenly become intrusive again and it has made me rather obsessed. Now the obsession part seems to have taken over and it's really not helping. I can't remember how I managed to let it go the first time but I really need to.

Hey, thanks for sharing. I was tinnitus that recently worsened after a ear infection. It's been really, really hard. The anxiety is hard to deal with. I'm implementing a treatment based on Acoustic Coordinated Reset Neuromodulation (I've made up the acronym ACORN to remember it) -- google it if you've never heard of it. Been on it for about two weeks now and I feel a definite improvement in my tinnitus symptoms. I used the free Audacity mixer to match my tinnitus frequency and just play it over my computer speakers (too risky to use earphones or headphones in case I do more damage). I encourage tinnitus sufferers to look into this treatment, but be careful you don't turn the decibels too high!

I did not get it from sounds but my doctors and tinnitus "specialist" i've been to have said its most likley from stress/depression and tensions in my neck, jaw. I have done some tests and are now doing exercices for my neck, jaw and trying to get out of my depression to help with the tinnitus. There is a small chance it will dissapear or atleast reduce the noise If i get better.

Hey Hi :-) Just wanted to back up what you said. I'm also a musician, frontman, and I play 11 instruments. Started playing in bands in 1968, mostly heavy rock and blues bands, and of course EVERYBODY was loud. I'd come off stage with ringing ears but it would be gone after a day or so. Back in the 60's there was no info that any of us were really aware of, and nobody thought about wearing ear plugs or anything like that, so we just hammered on regardless as you do when you're young. In 1985, still playing bands, I contracted the mother of all colds, it was a shocker with the headache from hell. It only lasted a few days, but that's when my Tinnitus started. The music probably didn't help, but it was the cold that caused it. The ringing in one ear was a nightmare, but 6 months later I woke up one morning, and it was completely gone !!!. In 1999, I was fronting a very loud rock band, and after one major gig came off stage with ringing ears of course, but this time it didn't clear up. It wasn't overly bad, but it was there. Then the double whammy's lol. That same year I was on a long haul flight from London to Australia. By the time I got to Singapore, the left side of my face was swollen like a football. Went to see a doctor in Australia and it was diagnosed as Otitis Externa due to cabin pressure. Got back to Italy and my head felt like it would explode and the ear pain was unbelievable. Saw my doctor in London, and she prescribed ear drops, but a week later she told me to stop using them, and plug my ears when washing my hair so no water would get in. Did this for a few weeks and the Otitis started to ease off, and then lol, I caught a massive cold, a real stinker, and wound up with an inflamed and blocked gland in my throat, and my old chum Tinnitus came back with a vengeance lol. Stopped playing in bands in 2007, (too bloody old to be humping gear about lol), and by now the Tinnitus was roaring. Well I've had it in both ears now for 15 years, and it's LOUD, bloody LOUD, and though I agree that the loud music certainly didn't help, nor did the Otitis, I believe in my case at least that it was those 2 bad colds that triggered my Tinnitus. I still have the swollen gland as treatment on the British National Health Service wasn't available at the time, however I'm looking into it soon. Thing is, I did get used to the loud ringing plus my partner is also a musician and we have 32 instruments between us here in the flat and are always playing, so there's always noise around, but the Tinnitus has become much much worse and louder in the past 2 months, so now I need to see my doctor as it's becoming unbearable, and I'm now getting a feeling of "pressure" in both ears. If I do manage to get something done about it, however slight, I'll post here just in case it may be of help to others in some way. Thanks for your video mate, and yeah, like soooooo many others, I know what you're going through. Chin up :-)

We've lived with ringing in the ears for some time, often virtually intolerable and also other situations certainly not also awful. Yet usually at this time there. A buddy tried out anything named 'Oakloe' and acquired effects. When i tried out it also and also have recently been therefore delighted. This buzzing nevertheless comes and is going, however it is really greater. Thought this might be very helpful.

Brilliant video. I had tendonitis and people didn't seem to realise the kind of pain and problems it caused me, i'm also a musician, be it an early-days one (2 years playing guitar). I had a pain in my ear a few days ago, not whilst listening/playing anything, but when i woke up on the sofa in the middle of the night. I'm not sure what it was, it still kinda feels a bit weird, but no ringing. Though earlier that day i was listening to loud/ high pitched music. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. I'm hopeful too. On my first appointment they gave me an EEG, a whole battery of hearing tests, and an rMRI. Tuesday will be the first actual treatment with the rTMS but I won't know whether it's the sham treatment or the real one. There will be 3 more treatments after this and at least one will be the real treatment. If the rTMS works, you may want to check into some clinical trials that may be going on in your area at clinicalTrials.gov. I wish you the very best!

I'm sure that in the future there will no sufferers because there will be a cure. Thing is, the ears are the "newest" part of medicine. People have always thought that eyes problems are worse. Or problems that can be life threatening. Ear problems were not given the attention they're given now. And in time, someone will come up with something that will make the hair cells in the inner ears be restored. If you want to, you can get in touch with me. I've read so many things about this. Cheers!

I don't have any health insurance. What do I do? Do I just say the hell with it and just take the medical bills hit or try something else. Well so far the ringing is still at a steady pace. Not enough to make go crazy or anything. I been doing a lot of research and looking at a lot of youtube videos. Which has been very helpful. I most ask did your tinnitus start off small and grow or did it just stay the same? Thanks for responding to me.

I am with you on this one, i bega to also have the same problem. I would dj gigs and attend gigs and i never had protection. Thats the reason why i ended up having hissing in my ears after a while. When i stopped the music, it felt as it became more enhanced. =/ sorry to hear that.

Hey man, thanks for the vid. I have been dealing with tinnitus for about 10yrs now. I first experienced it in Dec03 while reading. Had ear infections as a teen, use to attend small but loud concerts. Not sure of the primary factor in causing my tinnitus, but it's there. I have learned to mask it (when unbearable) at night listening to nature sounds, that seems to help. Also taking Antihistamine (non-drowsy allergy med) seems to help a bit. Don't take pepto-bismo (read bottle). Hope for a cure

I developed (L) ear tinnitus from using a back pack leaf blower without hearing protection (I know dumb) and what I have found that helps significantly quell my high pitched sound is by placing a swimmers ( silicon type) ear plug in my good (R) ear. Almost immediately the sound abates? The only downside is that you can't hear very well out of your (R) ear. However, this works great for sleeping and in quiet room situations and gives you a nice reprieve from the high pitched whining. If you keep the ear plug in my ear for awhile ( 1/2 hour or more) and then remove it ( my tinnitus remains greatly subdued until exposed to more loud continues sounds. My thinking is that by restricting sound in my good (R) ear using an air plug forces my (L) ear ( which is upregulated and in a hyper state) to be more subject to the sound that it has been generating internally...which help quell or downregulate the sound into a more normal state. Those with unilateral ( tinnitus) give this a try and you may be surprised.

Thanks for the information. I have tinnitus in my right ear. I got it when my sister shouted in my ear. She though it was funny. I have ringing ever since then. I noticed that asperin makes the ringing louder. Also, a good night's sleep helps. I am looking for some audio therapy. I will look at the website you mentioned. Thanks again.

Hi, thanks for your answer. Yeah, sometimes I bring my earplugs to the gym. Could you please say what kind of side effects you know from gabapentin? As I'm taking it for about 45 days, maybe I should consider other options... besides, I'm not even feeling any results it...maybe it's too early.

Really, WOW. I hear ya, That is really wow. I have it in both ears and yet when I was told mine would last forever, my ear drums moved because of air pressure (before my ENT), but yet nothing wrong. now there is fluid behind my ear drums so who knows what is causing mine. I got mine back in late Febuaray of 2011 (before the release of Pokemon Black and White.)

It literally appeared overnight, although I had some hearing loss from playing music over the years prior. I also had an ear infection and a bad habit of listening to loud music with headphones.

Thanks for sharing. I've had a ringing in my right ear for a while but in the past few months it's gotten louder. I don't have "real" heath insurances just some crappy junk plan that will not pay for anything. So getting an MRI of my ear is something I have to save up for. Already seen the ENT and they didn't see anything and the audio test was fine. The idea of having to live with this is VERY depressing.

i've had ringing in my ears since i was a young kid & had a hard time hearing, but never really thought anything of it, neither did my parents & teachers, they thought i wasn't paying attention, then in my late 20s i was having more of a hard time hearing, esp low frequencies,& the ringing never stops, so i ended up getting bilateral hearing aids, & it actually helped with the tinnitus. & i have mild to moderate hearing loss. so hearing aids might help w/ the tinnitus for others, maybe.

I also struggled with tinnitus in the past. I got mine most likely because I use headphones whenever listening to anything on my PC. While I still have it. It's so faint and forgotten, I have to lie down in bed, and concentrate on it. (medium high pitch asymmetric beeping) Sometimes when I get ear infections the beeping actually goes entirely away! Which is very strange. It kind of contradict logic I have this kind of pillow that has a build in speaker with software, and it plays music. works!!

I wouldn't get too worried yet. If it's only been a few days there's a good chance it is temporary, or at the very least will get much quieter. I've had the same thing happen a number of times and my tinnitus is, relatively, minor now. I really hope you get better man, tinnitus FUCKING SUCKS, and remember earplugs next time.

Aha, mine is somewhat the same, goes from high pitched to something like a summing or hissing, not sure how to explain it. It's like when you're really drunk and have this hissing sound. I checked my hearing and it was pretty much perfect. Only place where it was bit lowered was the frequenzy my tinnitus was. So i'm hoping it will pass some day. I know I should not go around and wait for it. But It's pretty hard to cope with at times.

I think one of the main problems that causes the ringing in the ear(s) is jamming out to LOUD MUSIC. I love it loud, too!! It's awesome!! Same thing when we go to the movies, it's awesome watching and hearing a film really, really LOUD. Something like "Jurassic Park", we really want to hear that T-Rex roar. Sadly, loudness takes its toll on our ears, and we must pay the price sooner or later. I'm currently looking around for home remedies...

maybe this will help someone......i have really bad high pitched ringing in my left ear. sometimes is gets real loud then goes back down a bit....but always constant. it is so loud that it over powers people talking at normal levels. i also struggle to understand the words of echos (walmart intercoms, walkie talkies, etc). if this is you as well, try to picture yourself literally reaching under the ringing to hear the outside sounds. it has helped me lots.

Had T for 7 months now. I'm a musician/producer too. How have you coped with it in regards to playing music, do you still play and wear ear plugs when with a band/live? Do you wear ear plugs if you go to a loud club or bar? I'm pondering whether to start playing again with ear plugs in, but I've heard in many cases ear plugs don't always protect you from further damage. I've stopped making music too (with DAW), as I'm scared to make the ringing worse.
