Wow jacking the roof up to make a plasterboard sheet (sheet-rock) fit is novel. I never new that plasterboard is structural - that's why you should leave a minimum of 5mm gap all around so when the house moves the sheet rock will not crack. Keep up the great videos Scott!

good work with this, like the method of everything level, 1 thing as a licenced wet area /bathroom waterproofer, i would recommend a tighter plaster cut around the shower base, it makes a cleaner and better seal around the internal corners and in my personal opinion looks a lil more appealing to the eye, .. polyurethanes and wet area silicons to allow movement, but you dont want to over use silicon as it can get a bit messy, just a tip for the future,
@kevinr3263
@kevinr3263 4 жыл бұрын
My tip is don't worry about making everything tight, a quarter inch gap is no problem at all just prefill with fast setting mud before you tape it. It's a waste of time trying to hang it perfectly especially with dips in the ceiling and whatnot. You know you're not going to scribe the top wallboard to the ceiling

Nice to see you finally hung the plaster the correct way also don't screw the middle of wall sheets its pointless unless the wall is not glued, and it pisses us plasters off. other than that the hanging seems good, also make sure that screws aren't in too far because they pop and let go of the sheet.
@allanpennington
@allanpennington 4 жыл бұрын
Is it also the case that you don't screw there you have a dob of glue as this causes the screw to pop?

Nice. Can you lay the boards horizontally if you've got an old fked up lath and plaster Stud wall where all the studs are wonky and bent!? They also have cross braces too. The boards won't fall on the studs when laid vertically? Or should I attach them vertically and cut to size (stud)? Thanks

@@MsElijah16 Yes, that is what I was referring to: Using a level to make a reference line for measurement. In the past I measured the perimeter. Having a reference lines means I can ignore what's square. Also, caveat, I am not a professional, just a guy who DIYs.

Hey , I came looking for tips on installing plaster board! Mostly just you guys doin stuff, which is good, but, do you do back blocking where your joins don't meet a stud or row of nogs? Is this preferable? Do you prefer horizontal or vertical and why? What about straightening up old walls? I'm recladding a room in a hundred year old house, and it's very slow, butting in nogs where there were none, encountering diagonal braces, pulled out sarking, put in a stud through an old fire place, packing everything out to match old finished wall thickness...(carpet was already in) and thought I had to engineer one a stud at 2400 from wall ( there wasn't one) for the butt join on the horizontal sheets..and a row of nogs 1200 high for the horizontal join between sheets ( did them at 600 centres) Then I find the joins don't even need to be over a stud or row of nogs! And best practice is "back blocking" with cove stop or whatever it's called. I AM CONFUSED.

Screwguns and routers are the way to go. Very fast and efficient. Within seconds of the sheet being in place, with two guys, multiple screws are already in the board, it's tacked up. And outlets, windows, things of that nature, cut out within second with a router. Just make sure to measure/mark where your outlets are first.

Plasterboard tip- if you aren't going to 'Butter' the joins with adhesive, leave a 3mm gap between the sheets ( with a window packer etc) , that way when you tape the joins, plaster goes into that gap and glues the join. Makes for a far stronger connection, less prone to cracking.
