I just recently got into death metal after picking up weight training seriously. I'll load an album and get to work. Your #1 pick i just heard yesterday after seeing it on several best of 2023 lists. On initial listen i thought i had heard this type of stuff a million times but i let it play just to see what the hype was about. I hate gurgly vocals but the instrumentals more than made up for it. Really interesting compositions and on one song it almost had like an alice in chains type feel. The album art is probably the sickest I've seen this year too. Anywho, great list.

im for sure going to check out Tetragrammacide. we didnt agree on anything else in the top 10 though aside from Cruciamentum! my favorites aside from Cruciamentum are Vastum, Left Cross, Autopsy, Sadism, Fossilization, Conjureth, Torture Rack, Suffocation and Ascended Dead.

I fully agree about Afterbirth. Hands down the best metal release this year. I've never been a big fan of anything with that squalling, over the top vocals unitil this has come out. I was in a constant repeat listen of this record a day after day for a few weeks straight. A true masterpiece.

Very good choices. The new Cattle Decapitation is my second favorite metal album of the year right after the new Enslaved. The new Horrendous album is also in my top 5 favorite metal albums of the year. The new Ahab, Outer Heaven, and Cruciamentum albums are really good too and I want to check out the new Tetragrammacide since I liked their previous album so much.

I like the fact, that Ahab made your top 10; although they, for me at least, will never top their debut album (my favorite doom album of all time), they always deliver an artistic package, where lyrics, artwork and music form an excellent whole.. 👌👌 ..and that Cruciamentum album is a pain in the a**.. making it difficult for me to compile MY top 10, because their album keep creeping ever nearer to the top with each listen.. damn you, Cruciamentum! 😉

I'll honestly be surprised if nobody gets killed over that Tetragrammacide album. I'm not used to seeing bands go that hard into attacking Islam. I like that Horrendous album quite a but, but I feel like those songs build a lot and never resolve, so I'd put it way down on my end of the year personally. 2023 has been such an amazing year for metal though! My personal favorites are Cattle Decapitation, Incantation, and Majesties. Cheers!
