I personally think Messmer is better than any other humanoid boss in the series including Gael and Godfrey. The incredibly weighty and impactful feel of his spear attacks, the massive amount of build up from the levels preceding him, the absolute banger soundtrack, and the insane levels of visual spectacle (especially in the second phase) all make him a near perfect boss fight imo

I am working on the starter AC vs allmind (i've done it WITH assault armor, but now i'm working on doing it without) and holy fuck that fight is HARD. Even if you can dodge well enough to survive the fight, you can *easily* run out of ammo. That's where it gets interesting though. Eventually you start learning where you can land pulse blade hits, and that's when you'll start getting way more staggers and doing much more damage. It's an absolute marathon of a fight, I can't wait until I get the W. I honestly think Loader 4, all missions, is just as hard as any of the sl1 souls runs.

My favorite is Fatalis from Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. It's a beautiful finale. You've put in the hours. You've tuned your playstyle to what you'd consider perfection. Many of the monsters you had to take down in this game challenged you. They all had their quirks and gimmicks. You alongside your closest friends get the call and voyage for a long-forgotten castle on the other side of the world. Then, this single dragon whispered in legend rears its head. It hardly looks like a "monster" at all. The castle quakes under its anger for humanity. Nothing else thus far has shown any sign of higher intelligence, so it's strange indeed this creature shows a particular desire so strongly. So the stage is set. The orchestra is chaotic. The battle is ferocious. You and your fellow hunters are hurting. The flames are burning hotter than ever all around you, and the smell of ash follows. Time is ticking faster and faster before all is lost. Then… silence. The music picks up again, and it’s YOUR theme. The dragon is finally reeling. With renewed hope against desperate anger, you fight on. An arrow from your companion brings the winged reptile down and you open its skull with one last slice. The adrenaline slows and everyone celebrates together. It's over. I like this boss fight a little bit if you couldn't tell.

My favourite boss/es are the Prime Souls from Ultrakill. Since the game is still in early access though, only 2 of 3 have been released. I love their soundtracks, their lore, their designs, and how their movesets work perfectly with the combat of Ultrakill. Nothing more to say really they’re just the peak of FPS boss design. I have a feeling though that the final boss of Ultrakill is gonna be even more memorable than the Prime Souls so I’m eagerly awaiting the games full release in 2050.

@MaidenlessScrub
@MaidenlessScrub 8 ай бұрын
zero i frame dodges won't work in souls games where your movements are relatively slow compared to the enemies and how tight the combat is designed. AC6 doesn't have tight combat in close range and your AC is basically a humanoid jet, so adding i frame would be overkill for your safety. IMO they are both good as long as they are put in the right situation
@elk3407
@elk3407 8 ай бұрын
@MaidenlessScrub I kinda agree, but Dark Souls gives you far too many i-frames. Coming to Souls from Monster Hunter made the roll feel mad op since you get (if I remember correctly) 0.533 seconds of invincibility on light roll whereas monster hunter only gives 0.267 seconds, and even less on a hop (I think its like 0.166?) which as a switch axe player you do alot of hopping to avoid damage.
@MaidenlessScrub
@MaidenlessScrub 8 ай бұрын
@@elk3407 But most people don't have to skill to light roll their way to victory. And the problem of spamming your roll and attacks to win in DS3 was actually addressed in Elden Ring where enemies and bosses have a mix of delayed and AoE attacks that forces you to mind your distancing and positioning as well as being less dependent on muscle memory. So yeah, DS3 did give a bit too much iFrame.

My favorite "boss" would probably be Bloodbath Diablos in MHGU, because of similar reasons to Allmind. It tests everything you know, and since it's the last unique monster you unlock in the game, it's the real final boss. Not many things in Monster Hunter are as fast and aggressive as this thing, and the music for it is spot on. You have to learn its attacks and when you can go in, it's never clear what it's gonna do next. It also has one of Monster Hunter's best designs IMO, the red trails across it and the steam look so damn good.

The multiple movesets add even more depth by multiplying the amount of attacks you need to learn while an amazing theme plays in the background. Then, once you think it's over, it gets back up with a very familiar sword as 3 distinctive piano notes increase the difficulty by impairing your vision with tears. 10/10, never gets boring

For me nothing can beat original Isshin. I've never been so stuck on a boss. But that feeling when he forced me to embrace how all of the other bosses had been hinting was the way to play the game, being aggressive and keeping constant pressure, was unreal. He even tells you: "Hesitation is defeat!" Exactly the philosophy necessary to overcome him. He got me to engage in every game mechanic, in the way they were intended to be used, and it all finally clicked on my first successful kill. I will never forget that feeling. It is the most exhilarated a game has ever made me feel. He made me feel like I didn't just grind out a kill, he made me feel like I had truly mastered the game. Which in my mind is what the best final bosses should all do.

My favorite boss in a game is xemnas from kh2. The music, the epic QuickTime events, the sound of xemnas’ awesome voice echoing across the void, the tag team with riku, chasing him down through the fractured city and tossing buildings at his dragon, the final desperation move with the hundreds of lasers shooting at you at once. Another thing I like is how most of the game you’ve been learning about the organization, nobodies, and the collective goal of the group itself. And in the final phase of the boss, with xemnas saying “we shall go together” I believe implies that he has accepted that he cannot win, and that all he cares about now is returning to the void as long as he takes Sora and riku down with him.

I'd say my top 3 is 1: Dark Eater Midir. To this day its the only boss that gives me the sense "holy shit I've just done the impossible, And it was awesome." Not just because he's a dragon and dragons are cool. But also because his moveset is both expansive and completely fair. Most dragon fights especially in Fromsofts games tend to be shit cause the boss has insanely massive hit boxes. But with Midir the hitboxes are so tight that if you know what you're doing you can easily get away without getting hit. And his massive size add to making him seem incredibly difficult to defeat further enforced by his massive health. You'll be clawing away for hours if you didn't upgrade your weapons. But I don't mind going through thousands of mail breakers cause it just adds to the sense of pulling off this impossible feat. Its a spectacle fight without some dumb gimmick or a weapon that you need to use to win. 2: Deathstroke Arkham Origins: Partly why I keep saying Arkham Origins is my favorite in the series is because of the fight with Deathstroke. The bosses in Arkham City made you rely on your gadgets to succeed, but Origins does something different. Outside of Firefly and Deadshot, all of them make you rely on countering the enemy with more than just your gadgets. And Deathstroke shows up as the second boss not just for story reasons but to fully enforce the idea of countering the boss to win. After all at this point in the story you don't have many gadgets, and most of them can only stun Deathstroke so you need to be active and attack him. And yet he's the only boss in the series that is able to counter Batman that's insane. 3: Dante DMC5: Not many people talk about this fight mainly cause hardly anyone bothered to cover the Virgil dlc for DMC 5, but for anyone like myself who dares to sit through the painfully mediocre retread of playing through the whole story again with no cutscenes or context but as Virgil than you are given a fun as hell fight to end off on. I remember thinking that the only way this dlc can redeem itself is if it ends with me fighting Dante and Nero. And there was that doubt that was pestering me saying "nah they're not gonna do that". And then when I finally reach the final 2 levels I was blown away by I not only get to fight Dante but he turned out to be the best boss in the game. Still No Nero fight but who cares. Everything Dante can do when you control him is replicated in his fight. He has four different modes that he can transition through on the fly. He can counter your attacks. He's got guns, nunchucks, the motor cycle, a shotgun, the rocket launchers, he punches, kicks, dodges, goes super sayian and tries to pelt you with meteors. So much is happening at a fast pace which messes perfectly with your moveset. Cause you've seen what Virgil can do in his fight and now you can do that in this fight. Its like Capcom completely flipped the perspective and I love it.

Man, great ranking! Adding Krausser is totally based. Certainly a great boss. I have to fight All Mind Iguana again. I didn't like the first phase that much, and I barely made it alive the first time I beat him (Although, after seeing many different fights against him, now I know what are my mistakes). On a side note, Have you played the Kingdom Hearts games? I would say that many of the optional super bosses are as hard or even harder than the hardest bosses made by Fromsoft. Roxas, Xemnas, Marluxia, Xehanort from KH2 and 3 are incredible. Lingering Will is probably the hardest boss fight I ever played that isn't entirely bullsh*t (although some of his moves slip to the bs territory), and Yosora is a f*cking amazing and hard boss without any kind of bullsh*t. Took me over a 100 tries and I admit that I needed to watch some videos to learn a couple more openings to be able to beat him, but it felt so damn good when I finally got him.

1. Isshin (Sekiro) 2. Ayre (AC6) 3. Godfrey (ER) 4. Vergil/Dante (DMC5) 5. Xemnas (KH2) Isshin is just the peak of what a final boss can be; Ayre is just a bittersweet fight with the most thought put in AC6 and not many flaws like Allmind; and I highly doubt there would be a better boss than Godfrey/Hoara Loux in ER (I'll be more than happy to be wrong). DMC5, for me, is the most polished action game in the market and KH2 was such a great title, even if the story was complete nonsense. So both deserve the 4th and 5th place.

Solid list. I can't find myself disagreeing with any spots here. It's probably not a boss you've encountered in your gaming endeavors but "Primordial Malzeno" (especially the hazard version) from MHR:Sunbreak is an absolute masterpiece too... The speed runner "Phinx" has a great long sword solo if you want to see a very short example of the fight. Otherwise, Peppo (the GOAT) showcases the fight with no build as part of his "the only thing you need is quick sheath" series. It takes a lot longer but you get to see the fight in all its glory. I personally think it's the only boss in the Monster hunter series that deserves to be included amongst the other bosses mentioned here so you aren't missing a large array of additions by not playing the series. Though, you should still try the games because they're incredible (if not a little hard to get into).

Inner Genichiro is probably my favorite. Genichiro himself is the first real wall in the game. After him the game kinda opens up, so even if you never beat another boss you get to see so much. But he is the first boss to demand you use EVERYTHING You've learned. Inner Genichiro is that times 100. Far more precise, far higher risk. But, when you finally click, the dance you do together is perfect.

Lotta people are surprised by Nioh 2 placement, and though I can agree that the game is total fire, don't forget that it has a much (and I mean, much) higher barrier for entry, than your typical "souls-like". It is much harder than anything From Software has done in their games. Pleased to hear praises to ALLMIND, I have only vague memories of the boss, possibly because I was getting tired of the game by the point I got to him, so he's definitely on my list of challenges I should return to at some point. If I were to contribute my favourites from the titles you've covered: Hollow Knight - not played GoW Ragnarok - Gna RE4 - Salazar Bloodborne - Orphan / Lawrence / Ludwig / Maria DS3 - Midir Nioh 2 - Minamoto no Yoshitsune

Inner Father solves the issue of the pillars by letting you at any time throw a shuriken at him to have him go right to your location with mist raven into an overhead strike. This lets you easily keep the fight in the center of the arena and lets you up the pacing to how fast you can do the fight. Mohg for me is my favorite Elden Ring boss, but I'm curious how things will shake out after I've bested him and Godfrey on RL1. Pure Vessel is definitely my favorite from Hollow Knight, fully agree there. I came in to this video wanting to know if there existed a boss better than Inner Father and it seems like instead of finishing the video I need to sacrifice another $60 to From Software...

And he tends to start with the same moves that Pissfrey had so he lulls you into a false sense of security before switching his move set up and completely taking you off guard. Also sad as hell Inner Father was dethroned, he still is my favorite boss ever but I don’t disagree with your choice for 1. It's increadibly difficult for me to limit myself to 10 specific bosses as there are so many fantastic bosses out there. That said however my top 3 as of now are probably the only ones I feel safe about, that being: 1. Malenia 2. Maria 3. Isshin the Sword Saint These bosses so far have offered the best balance between gameplay/mechanics, challenge, enjoyment factor and presentation imo. Easy 10/10 in most if not all categories to me. There are a billion other bosses I could name as contenders for the following 7 places honestly, but even among these there are a few that really stand out to me like Godfrey, Alatreon (his Iceborne version) and Ganandorf (TotK). These 3 are just among the first I think of when the topic of bosses in videogames comes up and I don't quite know why exactly tbh.

My favorite boss fight is Pardoner Fennel from Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight. It's a rather challenging boss fight, but what elevates it is Pardoner's Dance, which plays during this boss fight. Pardoner's Dance elevates Pardoner Fennel from simply being a great boss to feeling like a duel among equals, elevating it beyond a simple boss fight. Furthermore, Fennel has very grounded movement and attacks, which makes her feel powerful for reasons that aren't brute strength, and elevates the feeling that you're fighting an opponent on equal footing. For some reason, a boss that follows the same rules as you feels so much more intimidating than a boss that's built to look and/or feel intimidating because you know they have to be just as strong, if not stronger, than those monstrous bosses you fought before, and Unworthy is full of examples of this in action, especially amongst the early bosses like Narcoss and Gaston. Their grounded movement, attack patterns that slowly build upon their existing movesets with absolutely no fanfare, attacks that gain combo attacks as the fight goes on that punishes players for the most common dodge patterns makes most of Unworthy's bosses feel extremely threatening without relying too much on spectacle. Furthermore, its black-and-white aesthetics contrasts with a juicy level-up animation that plays every time you beat a boss to provide an unparalleled feeling of triumph upon beating its bosses. Unworthy's best boss, in my opinion, is Dancer of Thorns since she makes the fight feel more like a dance than a fight, as she never stops moving except for a handful of attacks that use her feet. In addition, she provides a very interesting use of the Spirit Bow, as the fight requires you to use said Bow to dodge an attack that will otherwise instantly kill you. Gaston and Father Amandil are also standout fights for how they provide interesting applications for the Hammer and the Spirit Bow, respectively, and Frayed Knight Dominic is a personal favorite of mine for his sheer charisma and its opening sequence. Grime similarly has some standout bosses, although its bosses have a lot more spectacle. The Final Performance would be #2 on my list after Pardoner Fennel, because even though it's a challenging boss fight it's less of a fight and more of an act or performance designed just to make you look good. It starts with a platforming challenge built around avoiding some dancers, then a fight against the Performer that combines patterns that are fairly difficult to dodge and/or parry but also provide the graceful dancing movements throughout. One of the standout moments is that when you parry him twice, he bows to the crowd, because again, this boss fight isn't about beating you, it's about making you look good. Shapely Fidus is up there too, as she has some difficult to dodge attacks and perhaps the coolest attack I've ever seen, where she grips her sword with her whole body, ignites it on fire, and plunges it into the ground, creating a ring of fire that expands outwards from her position and retracts to said position, indicating the start of her second phase where you can't parry her attacks anymore. Amalgam also is worth mentioning just because it's a first boss with a theme that in many other games would fit a final boss and is so much more of a spectacle than any first boss has any right to be.
