I love The Age Of Innocence so much. Edith Wharton is my comfort author. Her prose and characters just always clicked with me.

She really is amazing! Since this video I have also read The House of Mirth and loved that even more. Her storytelling and character development is absolutely delightful!

It was depressing. You wait and wait, but the wished for event never happens. It reminds me too much of my own wasted life.

So happy to see you rated Les Miserables by Victor Hugo in your top five. It is a masterpiece! Also I really enjoyed Agnes Grey…….very genuine piece of literature. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these books.

Yes to the Gabriel Oak love! 😂 And yes to The Tenant of Wildfell Hall being ahead of its time! I honestly don't know why it isn't talked about more these days. And yes to the awesomeness of The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and Tess of the D'Urbervilles!! I love Agnes Grey, too, but I haven't read it in so long that I don't remember it very well. My feelings about Little Women have become complicated since I re-read it recently, but I've loved it since I was a kid. This is a great top 10!

Hi I so enjoyed your thoughtful list. I also think Little Women is my favorite book of all time, although I read it as a child. I also loved those Thomas Hardy books, and I really didn’t think Tess was as bad as some say, in that she and Angel had a sort of honeymoon time, before the end. I did think it was awful that she had to suffer for years. And yes it was not her fault. Her parents were so feckless. And I have Les Miserables on my bookshelf and have wanted to read it for years. So while I am reading Little Dorrit now, and Vanity Fair, you give me courage to tackle it. Thank you. 😊

I’m so glad! Les Miserables is wonderful! I did this video a few years ago so it may be about time for an update, but I still love all of these books. Glad you enjoyed!

I have Madame Bovary on my shelf just waiting to be picked up. Part of me is a bit intimidated by it for some reason but I hope to read it sooner rather then later 😊

I'm so glad!! I've only read Jane Eyre (which would probably be in my top 20) but I plan to read the rest of hers next year as one of my reading goals. Do you have a favorite of hers besides Jane Eyre that you could recommend?

I avoid "Agnes Grey" because of animal cruelty; same goes for "Moby Dick" . as for "Wuthering Heights" : sorry, all the characters are detestable and there is so much abuse and invest that it is True my off-putting. Read in my teens and recently with stronger dislikes now ! As for Thomas Hardy: never liked FftMC and also disliked TotD'U ! Loved "Woman in White" by Wilkie Collins. I am an avid reader and 90% are Victorian writers. Kind regards from GB.

Completely understand the concerns and opinions. I like tragedy and the exploration of abuse as a psychological and character influence, but I get that’s not for everyone 😊. Wilkie Collins is a wonderful writer as well!
