Most dolls in this list were released around the time I was in my "anti-girl" phase as a teen when I avoided anything remotely feminine, even if I secretly liked it. Now that I know it's ok to like things regardless of marketing preferences, I'm getting back into dolls again. Thank you for introducing me to what I missed growing up.

The most underrated RECENT doll line in my opinion has gotta be the Wild Hearts Crew dolls. They've only had one wave and a couple of fashion packs before Mattel just wiped away any trace of them. In my opinion they're the very last doll line that Mattel has ever given an attempt at quality to.

I still have a Masquerade Lexa I got for my birthday waaay back in 2010, she's literally fallen apart (neck broke, but plan to fix it), her hair frizzed to the point she has had an afro (which I tried straightening and it looks...interesting), and kid me lost everything she had over the years. The funny thing is, she manages to still be my favorite doll out of my entire collection and is often the doll a lot of my younger relatives like the most, even with the terribly damaged hair.

@berrystein9197
@berrystein9197 3 жыл бұрын
@🍉Suki-tan Hatsune✔️ No? 1)Dolls like that are being produced in Eastern countries too. 2)Most Western dolls inspired by Japanese culture are not doing what I wish they did more often: they modify their inspiration to fit the Western standarats instead of leaving the beauty of Japanese culture as it is. When I say Japanese-inspired I mean dolls that channel Japan in their design/aesthetic. Not those that create their own aesthetic based on Japanese culture (Although it is nice to see too as it can lead to wonderful dolls). I hope I made myself clear.

Ugh you're probably right!! I have a furby boom that no longer works and he just has horrible beady eyes that stare into the abyss. It reminds me of how dead people's eyes become cloudy, which is fitting I guess. Having insert eyes may be less expressive, but I think it greatly improves the overall look and lifespan of the toy!

One of my favorite doll lines that I still love to this day is the deceptively bright-looking spinoff to Monster High known as Ever After High. I loved the kind of dark, fractured fairy tale take on the whole fairy tale universe, and since I was just coming out at the time, I totally sympathized with Raven Queen, the leader of the rebel student faction who didn't want to be forced into becoming the next Evil Queen (because, despite her looks, she's anything BUT evil), considering I'd basically been forced to conform to certain societal conventions my whole life up to that point, and one of the first edition Raven Queen dolls was literally the first doll I ever bought, and I still have my MSIB EAH doll collection proudly displayed on some shelves in the hallway.

Ahh man, I know this video is over a year old, but I need to comment. My favourite doll as a kid was Cassy, which was a British doll from the '90s, created by Hornby, who are best known for making train sets. She was much smaller than Barbie or Sindy, only about six inches tall, and she was so named because she was packaged in a chunky plastic case like the ones video cassettes came in. The inside of the case was the backdrop of a room, and each one contained a doll, an outfit, and the furniture for the room. You could also buy a kit that allowed you to fit the cases together so you could build a dolls' house as you bought more of them. I think the main reason I love her is just pure nostalgia, but honestly, being able to build your own totally customisable dolls' house from the doll's regular packaging is pretty ingenious.

Sharpay VIP Doll was my line when I worked for Mattel. The plan was to have a big push for all of them starting with the "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" movie but when the movie didn't break records, Disney lost interest and started to phase out the line. Demi Lovato got in trouble and had to go to rehab so her doll got cancelled a month before the release. Miley Cyrus turned 18 that year and started to act up so Disney stopped playing reruns of Hannah Montana. The only ones that were left were the "Shake It Up" girls and "Wizards of Waverly Place" which ended their run as well.

An underrated doll line I like is Jan McLean’s Lollipop girls dolls! A lot of people think their faces look scary but I think they have great fashions and are really high quality dolls. And about Diva starz I have a theory that Mattel knew about Bratz before they debuted so they created DS and pushed them out to compete. Basically what they did to Jem and the holograms with Barbie and the rockers.

My number one underappreciated doll line is Ori princess by Chinese company M&C, they are the cutest, very unique, and have the least obnoxious style I've ever seen. They are super popular in my native doll community, especially for OOAKs and hybrids, but, by now, quite rare. I only have one of these and I'd love at least 3 or 4 more. I'm not even aware if the line is still ongoing or not as of now.

I love hairdorables! The outfits are great quality for their size, I don't get weirded out by the faces, and the hair quality and price point makes them a win for me. Plus there are tons of dolls per series, so if you buy 2 or 3 your chances of getting doubles are rare. The hairmazing dolls aren't my personal favs, but I love Dee and Noah's looks. They were a beacon of hope during a time when the doll shelves were straight up depressing. I think project MC2 dolls were also great for their time, although most of the fashions should stay in 2016, I find Adrienne's looks aren't as tacky and definitely fit in with my current aesthetic. But the dolls themselves were stunning, and they pulled of inset eyes well, unlike some other brands.... *cough* *cough* Liv🙄 And they pulled off the STEAM aspect really well for me, a girly girl who was more into the arts, and felt like I had to get rid of my stereotypically feminine traits to be smart.

A year late to the party but had to bring up one doll line I liked quite a lot, but I've never seen anyone talk about: Catwalk Kitties. Basically, they were anthropomorfic cat dolls, who were models, or otherwise working in fashion industry. The line was apparently quite short lived, I think just 2 series', four playsets and a set of smaller dolls. I loved how the series played with cat themed puns, there were a set of tiny magazines with every doll, named Kitmopolitan, GLAMeow and Cature. My favourite doll was Jet, who came with the photographer playset. I found them quite charming. Me and my sisters used to have all of the dolls of the original series and three of the playsets, and I really regret selling them when I was around 17.

Project McSquared has a special place in my heart because it's the only time I've ever seen a fictional character who had my name with the right spelling! So Adrienne had to be my favorite too 💕 I think the eyes are so pretty on the dolls, so I didn't mind the dated 2000's fashion so much and YES about all the nostalgia for Trollz too, but also how badly it aged 😭 I went back to rewatch it during the pandemic and was so disappointed at how shallow it was when I loved it so much as a kid and spent all my afternoons on the website!

I think what I like best Licca and other Takara dolls is they've changed a lot less through the years than Barbie(they've updated Licca's body sculpt a few times, but her facial features have changed waaay less than Barbie), giving them a very timeless feel. Loved your video! My favorite underrated line is the short-lived Girls of Many Lands (from American Girl). They are so incredibly beautiful, it's a shame that they couldn't release more.

Irwin toys Gurlz, I had one of those as a kid and she was my all time favorite!! Also, love there was tini puppini which were fashion puppies, and I LOVED the neopets action figures. So cool to see teen trends and juku couture. Super nostalgic!! Great vid.

I adore the project MC2 dolls - if you redress them they are so cute (and actually even their original fashions are cute in a kitschy way). Their faces are gorgeous! Very underrated doll line. A lot of these other lines I haven’t heard of - thanks for the list!

This list brought me back. I'm not a collector but being a mom and a much older big sister I can tell you there were some lines that looking back I almost became a collector. One year I bought my daughter those giant Monster High dolls and and stood in the toy isle adulting myself so I wouldn't have bought another set of those dolls for my self. They were so beautiful and well constructed. The show was amazing too. And anything Ever After High. I think I loved them more than Monster High. I love the Decedents but I'm still mad they killed the Ever After line.

i LOVED project mc2 i had the brown hair green eyes one i got for christmas because it use to look like me and it was so fun. i also had the perfume girl and they would trade outfits all the time. i took them everywhere even in baths, i don’t remember what happened but one of them was super weak after only a year of playing her arms couldn’t move up they fall right back down same with legs, and chunks of hair would fall out, i think eventually my mom threw her away or something cause i couldn’t find her anywhere but i loved her so much she has a special place in my heart. i miss them sm!

Oh jeez, zodiac girlz! My little sister and I each had our star signs from the first edition, but since I’m a gemini, I always felt bad that I never had another one to be her twin sister and thought that she must have been a very lonely doll. I loved her outfit to bits as a kid- if they sold human-sized versions of those pieces I would still be on them in a heartbeat even today. They’d look right at home in my wardrobe.

My wife still has some of the Pinkie Cooper dolls from that limited run. We used to have all of them. She liked that it was a small selection, because it was finite, unlike my seemingly endless possible Monster High and Ever After High purchases. They hit a weird uncanny valley for me at first, but they grew on me the longer they lived on our shelves and the more we reposed them and swapped outfits. I think we've got two Pinkies and Pepper left now, and she loves them still. She tried the MC2 dolls as well, but only ended up getting one because she didn't like the plastic quality on the body and limbs. I wonder if, in 10 years or so, the Star Darlings and the Novi Stars would make this list.

Agreed. I loved my Summer. I so wish I had kept all my dolls to pass down. I had a Rugrats case full of 90s and 2000s era Barbies, a My Scene, and 1 each first and 2nd line Diva Stars. I have an 8-year-old niece, and I'm so pissed at myself because doll quality, or at least Barbie quality, kind of sucks now. I've actually been pretty impressed by the quality of the L.O.L. Surprise O.M.G. line, and the one Rainbow High doll she has. Still, I'm kicking myself for selling all mine.

It was a favorite of mine haha. i had the onyx doll way back when and i would play the computer game all the time !! I think their character designs in the animated series are super cute and a fantastic snapshot into 2000's fashion. Im also pretty sure they're the reason im so dead set on getting a belly button piercing when i have money LOL

I got lucky and bought Beverly Hills Pinkie Cooper at an Ollies years ago! She's super cute and so is her pet. (It really is a shame they weren't more popular; I wish they lasted long enough for us to get other animals too.) haha from eBay I got a blonde Licca-chan with closed eyes (I don't recall her name if she had one specifically) and a green-haired baby that I think is also from the Licca-chan line (could be Jenny; I bought it because it's about the same size as the Mattel Heart Family baby dolls which I loved as a kid.) The story about you buying your first Licca dolls is really sweet and in general this is a really interesting line-up, some of which I forgot about or had never heard of. 😊 Edit: I HAVE A JUKU COUTURE JUN! I love her! Ahhh sorry I shouldn't respond in the middle of watching but I just keep getting so excited. I can't remember for certain but I feel like I bought her (had never noticed them before) during the re-release, right before they died out. Which is indeed tragic but thank you so much for making this video. 🥰 Second edit: I also wish Hairdorables had stuck around but while I felt the same, happy to get any doll, I was just tired of the mystery aspect, so I bought one and got the rare green Talia who was the only one I felt so-so about at the time because I was debating finding out if I could put her head on another body... lol the skin was cool but daunting in that regard, I didn't really wanna paint a bigger body to match. I feared getting a dupe and never got the chance to buy from a later wave for additional dolls. They do have cute little bodies btw I just normally prefer more articulation when I can get it. I planned on getting the Hairmazing at some point but couldn't buy anything much the past few years and seems like they're kind of gone/going now, except for resellers and the cheaper line they've introduced at Walmart?? I loved the face sculpts and the hair and vibrant colors and the unique accessories. I meant to buy one of the pets at some point too and one of the boys. There were just too many doll lines around that time but a lot of them have unfortunately sort of died out a bit eep RIP. Anyway, I might try getting one of them on resale but IDK if I feel that connected. I always felt like the eyes were the one thing I kind of didn't like, the colored pupils could look weird depending on the color choices. I desperately wish/hope they had a coloring book because I feel like their art was perfect for that.
