your opening message about crosley, victrola, etc. is unbelievably kind and helpful when compared to most other creators. it is so hard for people getting into vinyl-especially young people-to find useful information from someone who isn’t condescending. i wish i would have found your channel 6 years ago lol.

I've found throughout the years that coming down harshly on inferior products right out of the gate doesn't do much to get people to listen. Lots of people have those players but mainly because they don't know any better. I'd rather be polite and try to share some knowledge than be dismissive or judgemental.
@devilzdandruff9199
@devilzdandruff9199 Жыл бұрын
I know a few people that play their vinyl on Crosleys and they love them! No issues. No scratched up/damaged vinyl like some say. It’s also quite a jump in price between a Crosley and say an ATLP120. Some people can’t afford a $400 record player and opt to get one for less than $100. I say go for it. It gets them into the hobby and it puts a smile on their faces. Nothing wrong there.
@jonmccauley6490
@jonmccauley6490 Жыл бұрын
@@devilzdandruff9199 Agreed. Some people just want to play their old records. If they're looking at those $50-100 players, then there's a reason why they're not also looking at the $200+ ones. They just want an easy way to listen to them! Also don't agree they'll damage them.
@richardcline1337
@richardcline1337 Жыл бұрын
@@jonmccauley6490, playing the Devil's advocate here, there have been tests run on the el cheapo Crosley Cruisers and the unbelievable knockoffs using old tried and true names such as Philco, Fisher and such. Yes, they are cheap junk, no getting past that and the speakers that are mounted in them sound almost as bad as the old transistor radios of the early 60's. BUT, and I am going by many different test results that have been pushed, these turntables can do the job but with one thing needed.....frequent stylus (needle) changes. These generally come with a sapphire needle and those last almost long enough to play one record before starting to wear. IF you have one of these Crosley's, do yourself a huge favor and immediately swap out that needle for a good quality diamond. As a guide, a diamond stylus (needle) should be replaced after 800 to 1,000 hours of playing time. Do this often and the el cheapo can give many hours of listening pleasure with minimal damage to your records.

Santa just gave us an Audio technica AT-LPGO-BT (Wal-Mart renaming of the AT-LP60XBT). It's the best turntable they sell. I was able to get it with my employee discount for about $150. It's my return to listening to vinyl LPs for the first time since the 1980's, plus it isn't one of those El-cheapos you mentioned! So far, I'm pleased. If my mother or I want to play our records, just place the record on the platter and press the start button, and that's it. The player takes care of everything else. I'm just getting started, and find the sound acceptable for now.

Nice video! I really like that Fluance TT. Maybe that will be my next one (that bamboo looks cool). Currently I have the AT-LP120USB (not the current model). I have had mine since about 2012/13. Have never had an issue out of it and we used it almost every day. Pretty solid. I did swap out the AT-95E for an AT-100E (which is no longer made) and it sounds even better. I just keep the 95E as backup. Have never really been disappointed in my decision for an Audio-Technica (I know some people call them Hanpin crap but I've gotten a ton of play time out of it). I also like the U-Turn Orbit. It's always fun to look around but I just don't have the need for more than one TT. Ok, off to check your link for Fluance so I can get a better look and "window shop".

@@blakebruner6173 i actually upgraded to the microline but the audio technica elliptical also sounds better than that dreadful 2M Red. The 2M Red tracks poorly to a point that the last track on every side sounds distorted. I have tried it in four different tables, aligning it, trying to adjust the tracking force to see if that would fix it, that cartridge to me is just flawed. The audio technica cheap conical actually tracks better. The microline though, night and day for a few dollars more.

@stevesstuff1450

Don't know if you've changed cartridge yet...if not, don't be in too much of a hurry! The 'Carbon' that comes supplied may be a re-badged Audio Technica AT91 (NOT the 3600L) cartridge, but it rivals and betters many cartridges up over the £200-ish range, just in it's subtlety and ease of bass, it's dynamics, and overall smooth tone, with a lovely sheen on the top-end; cymbals sound like REAL cymbals!! Many cartridges can't do that! The arm it's attached to helps it too.... that Rega RB110 arm is a very high quality tonearm; it may be lowest of the Rega range, but that doesn't mean it's no good; it's better than most arms on turntables currently available under a £1000... just feel the silky-smooth bearings as you move and use it! Quality! The only way to improve on that is to change to a P2 or P3, etc.... The Carbon cartridge just works in that arm, and sounds sublime! I have the slightly older RP1 turntable with the RB101 tonearm, that includes Bias/Anti-Skate adjustment, and have considered many times upgrading the Carbon, but then changing my mind; it just sounds so good with this deck!! :-D

Getting back into vinyl and looking get reacquainted with my neglected collection. The Evo is so appealing and it's really the one I want but if I'm honest with myself, one of the fluance TTs is probably a better fit for me since they stop turning at the end of the record. Any plans on releasing a 2022 update? Prices seem to have exploded recently in the US, knocking your top 2 out of the sub-500 price range. I’m curious if that change would have you include the fluance 85, variants of the uturn orbit, or lower tier models from Pro-ject. Big fan of your channel. The AT-LP3 is a similar, but superior option to the AT-LP60. Still fully-automatic and belt-driven, it comes with a better cartridge and a removeable headshell for easy future upgrades. It also has a manual counterweight and tracking. There is also a switch that allows you to use MM as well as MC cartridges, although buying an expensive MC cartridge to use with this particular turntable seems counterproductive to me; you would probably be better off buying a higher-end turntable. Basically it fits in between the LP60 and LP120X in the Audio-Technica lineup. Honestly, I think it is a better starter table than either one.

I love the pace, the atmosphere and the perfectly clear explanations that go with every turntable you introduce. Thanks for this amazing review. I have watched this video a few times over the pas few weeks, so I could make the right choice... The thing is, I'm in Japan, and the only turntable that's actually affordable (meaning, no insanely high shipping and import fees from the UK or the US) is the Planar 1 MK2. I really made a lot of research because I love the look of the Fluance RT (83 or 85) or the Pro-Ject Debut, but these two are just impossible to find at the right price in Japan. Right now, I'm thinking about setting up the Planar 1 MK2 with the Denon PMA600NE and Q-Acoustics speakers (3020i or 3030i?). Not sure it is the right combination yet but every time I dig more about turntables, I'm completely lost and feel I have to start all over again :D Any opinion on this set up is welcome!

the older Japanese direct drive turntables have MUCH better wow and flutter specs. The reason Rega ( and even companies like Thorens), do not post the W&F spec because they hope you won't find out how far off the speed accuracy is. If you have never had a direct drive turntable you may not notice, but if you do get a DD table you will notice a differece.

I've never been in a bigger hurry to get rid a piece of stereo gear than with that AT120. I found it to be atrociously poor, with many deal-breaking flaws. I even exchanged it because I thought it must've been defective, but the replacement had the same exact issues. The LP60 is actually a way better turntable IMO, but any of the other three are a much better choice. I really wanted to love it, but it was just straight up horrendous. Buyer beware.

The last time I purchased a new turntable was around 1985. I purchased a Denon with a servo arm, AT-130e cart etc. around $450.00 just knocked me out. I gave it away by mistake. I just purchased a new TT since that grievous loss/mistake. I purchased a U-Turn Theory, 3 year warranty Ortofon Bronze for about $1,000.00 and it is a great sounding manual belt drive. It sounds very good and looks almost great as well. Cris, you might look at the U-Turn line sometime as you build your own and warranty can’t be beat, customer service is spot on and quick. Thanks for your trusted insights. I was happy to see a Fluance table in the mix. I bought the RT84 a few years ago that incudes the blue ortifon cartridge. I am very happy with this fine turntable. And not that it matters too much, I kinda like the fact that it is made in my country, Canada, but that didn't come into my decision making when buying it. The fact that Fluance is serious enough to include the blue ortifon clinched the deal. The cost in Canada was around $700 with the preamp. I love this turntable.
