I,too, have noticed my hair adjusting to being washed less frequently. For years, I washed my hair daily. It has taken some time, but I can go 4 days without washing. Started using a dry shampoo. It’s also longer, which means I can pull it back on day 4.

Nikol, you read my mind I so needed to see this as I could use these reminders and a bit of a refresh. I stopped washing my hair often when I went gray and now I average about every 4-5 days. My scalp is happier, and on workout days I just rinse my hair really well with water in the shower. Thank you ☺️ I’m going to add a few of these products on my list so I can improve my process. 💕

When your scalp is so incredibly oily that within 18-24 hours after shampooing it’s already stuck down to your scalp….dry shampoo won’t help that. I’m 60 years old and have had to wash my hair every single day ever since I hit puberty. For some people with extremely oily skin/scalp it is essential to wash every day otherwise We end up with seborrheic dermatitis , dandruff ,hair loss or other scalp issues.

Have similar issues. It’s not pleasant - but you can occasionally rinse your scalp with apple cider vinegar, work into your scalp, and leave on a few minutes. Be careful to not get in your eyes. Also, Aveda has an exfoliator shampoo that helps.

True. I have tried all my life to space my washes and ended up having super uncomfortable seborrheic dermatitis flares. I don't care anymore what people think when I tell them that wash my hair everyday. It is so much easier to do this than to do a lot of things to keep my scalp calm and my hair presentable.

In old beauty book from maybe the 1940's, Gaylord Hauser recommended adding a beaten egg or two to hair hair once shampoo is lathered up. Massage it on scalp and through the strands. Leave a few min or as long as you can in shower before thoroughly rinsing it out & then condition as usual. Good for helping thicken the strands and being natural, no concerns about product irritation. Best done on a day or night when staying in, in case slight scent of raw egg needs to dissipate.

I wash my hair every 3 to 4 days. I have gone as long as 5. Start every 2 days, then switch to every 3. The oils in your scalp will adjust and slow down production. I have fine wavy hair with good density and actually has more body when I shampoo less. However, people with fine thin hair need to wash daily to get volume. Otherwise it goes flat and dry shampoo doesn’t help.

I have noticed that you can help your hair/scalp adjust to being washed less. Start gradually, 2 days, then 3 days. At first you may see the oils build up, but usually your scalp will adjust and produce less oil and your hair will thank you too.

She has another video on how to have thick hair. BUT…she shows the products she uses. She really likes KERASTASE (sp?) products. I would suggest trying their line for dry hair. She also like PHYTO. There is another one, too. Cheap shampoos just don’t work well. You can find these products cheaper if you look online. Sometime they shoe up THRU Walmart…not AT Walmart…but thru their site. Also, using a tiny bit of oil on your hair to add gloss and hold down flyaways might help. I mean a quarter of a pea size, rubbed into your hands and smoothed lightly over your hair after it’s styled. You can you Argon oil or any of the many hair oils they make. Don’t use Vo5 as it’s way too heavy…it’s like Vasoline.

I was taking noted furiously throughout this one! I have fine textured very curly hair and a lot of it. I've fought the curls most of my life until the last year or so. I don't mind the curls but living in Houston means frizz! Never a good look, especially now my hair is white and light gray. I stopped bleaching it, even highlights, 4 years ago. No products worked to stop the frizz so I recently had a keratin treatment. So far I can do nothing with my hair! I was told the curls or waves would still be there but no frizz. Wrong. My hair hangs lanky with no wave at all. At least so far. I always had a ton of body and now nothing. I have written all the products I think might help me. I hope they do. I cannot use a blower brush like yours due to a painful right wrist left over from a car crash last year. Wish me luck!

Silicones will be your friend. I don’t care what any one says on social media. Just clarify your hair on a regular bases so there won’t be any potential buildup. Depending how often you wash your hair. Maybe clarify every two weeks. Especially if you have hard water. Prepooing with oils also helps. Find an oil blend that you like. That depends on your hair as well. Put oil on your scalp and lengths before you shampoo. It’s trial and error with how much and which oils but it’s worth it. Many videos on this. Indian videos are good. They advertise that keratin treatments are good for your hair but they really aren’t. People really are trying to sell us stuff. That’s all. Silicones, sulfates, etc BAD Keratin treatments, hair dye etc. GOOD seriously though look into the Indian and other Ayurvedic hair videos even if your hair looks different. It might help. Peace

Hi, Nancy! Start by getting your blood test done, with focus on thyroid hormones, minerals, vitamin deficiencies. If everything is fine, still check-in with your GP and a dermatologist. Hair has its own life cycle that leads to your hair falling, but having it to falling in clumps, as you describe, does not sound as something that can be addressed by simple cosmetic solutions.

I'm not a colorist but pretty sure the only way to get dark color not to show until it grows out & is cut off would be to bleach it - probably to a light blond as don't think there's an actual color "white". If trying to transition from coloring to no longer coloring without it looking bad in the meantime, maybe try using demi-permanent or even temporary hair color to match the brown until your grows out long enough that you can cut it all. Good luck.

Two and a half years later and I can honestly say the best way is to just take a deep breath and let it grow out. Shortcuts lead to over processed hair that might have to be cut in order to repair. Good news: having gray/silver hair is terrific. Good luck with your journey.

May I PLZ add some suggestions for those like me w/ oily hair... allow 1 day a week to get really greasy. U don't have to tho. Work that NATURAL conditioning thru ur hair.Mother Nature knows best! I use a Boar Bristle Brush since I was a kid. its wonderful for ALL hair types. Hope this helps~ thnx again for all ur wonderful info!#!!💋

I looked up some of your suggestions and they are quite expensive for this old gal. She’s on a retirement budget.

Nicole, I love your makeup advice, but hair - not so much. Ladies, before you start rinsing your hair with cool water, you really need to understand porosity. High porosity hair is like a sponge; low porosity hair is the exact opposite - it rejects moisture. Those of us with low porosity hair should never, never, never rinse with cool water (not unless you want your hair to turn into straw). Rinsing with cool water closes the hair shaft up tighter than a drum. Any thick moisturizing product you use will just sit on the surface and cause product buildup which will lead to dryness as low porosity hair is prone to buildup. Deep conditioning must be done weekly and must always be accompanied by heat to open up the hair cuticle. Once you can get moisture into your hair it will retain it. The problem is getting it in. Also we low porosity gals must avoid overuse of leave-in products and conditioners as they usually contain protein. Too much protein will cause low porosity hair to become stiff from protein overload. Also, a clarifying shampoo (sulfate-free) should be used twice a month. I used to take generic advice from hair care professionals and nearly ruined my hair. I didn't understand porosity. I have done extensive research on this subject. Hair care is not one size fits all.

Most everything u said is true. I have low porosity hair and the struggle is real. I disagree about the leave-ins; leave-ins without proteins are not hard to find. I have several.
