I harvested a big buck with my Remington 7600 with a 3-9x40 Bushnell Scope Chief VI using Federal 150 grain soft point ammunition. It’s a popular hunting rifle. I remember opening day in the 1980’s hunting in the Catskills. It would sound like a war with the quick follow up shots from hunters using the Remington 742 and Browning Bar semi automatic rifles. I didn’t buy a 7400 because it was supposedly a jamomatic and lacked good accuracy. I would see them on the used gun racks for $250 after the hunting season about 10 years ago. Now that rifle in 2023 is getting good money on Gunbroker.

I have all 3 a 7600 7400 and a bar and my 7400 is by far the most accurate of the 3

@@robbiehottot1357 In a documentary about Remington. They tested the Remington Model 700, 742 and 760. The 742 achieved the best accuracy at 100 yards. It was a cool video showing the craftsmanship with these new firearms and using the DuPont RKW finish on the wood. Proper maintenance, cleaning the bore and chamber with using a good gun grease on the rails and lugs makes it a reliable rifle.

@@boostimalaka1 I’d like to see that documentary, I think that’s why the 740,742,7400,750 got such a bad rep is because a lot of people didn’t properly maintain them and they would jam etc but as long as there properly maintained they are very reliable I wish remington would bring back a semi auto big game rifle!

Don't these exquisite rifles deserve to be handled by their stocks rather than their receivers? The salt from your hands is corrosive to the metal. Perhaps I'm just old-fashioned, but that's one if the first things I was taught as a child about handling firearms. ☮

I like your sons rifle better. Its setup like my bolt action rifle. Though both are wall hangers. Best of luck to you out there this year, i know you will lay them down and bring the roasts home for dinner.

I had a remington 742 in 30 06 And a browning bar in 30 06 I stick to 30 06 because i had a cmp springfield m1 garand so i try keep all in same caliber
