This is the place for serious reptile lovers! We have tons of expert info on pet lizards, habitat, snakes, turtles, sulcata tortoises, terrapin, crocodiles, alligators and all sorts of scaly & misunderstood creatures in Florida. We also love to learn from other animal experts, like Paul Cuffaro, who are happy to share knowledge about pets. That’s what Kamp Kenan is all about. We love reptiles & science and we know you do too. This is why we do what we do. Animal conservation in the modern world matters, we're out there living it and doing it every day. This is real life, these stories are real, and our sole purpose is education in action for you so that you can learn something new every day and one day perhaps get involved yourself. It's that simple.
Let's create a new generation of educated reptile keepers & animal enthusiasts by spreading the love!

Long spans of steel wire experience shrinkage and expansion. In cold weather the wire will be tight, in hot weather it will go slack. This causes excessively high tension on the wire. The steel brackets act as knives on the softer wire. That cuts the coating off the wire which leaves it open to corrosion. Our fix on the ranch was to use coil springs. The round hard steel on the spring will not cut the wire. On the anchor end the hard steel of the spring will not cut through. Use a nice stout coil spring - available at any hardware store. It keeps the wire tight year round. I very much enjoy the tours of your Kamp and your dedication to preservation of natural ways to take care of your collection.

Use a coated coil spring and heavier gauge bracket for the fence. The coating and rounded edges of the spring will prevent the electricity from breaking down the metal and causing corrosion.

If the wire is electrified, can you rubberize the ends to prevent the corrosion? There is plastic dip at hardware store! But I'm not sure if that prevents the electric flow!
@nocare
@nocare 3 жыл бұрын
It's definitely galvanic corrosion so yeah rubberize the end. If its electrified run a connection direct to the next wire so no current has to go thru the corner piece.

You mentioned earlier in the video about about going grocery shopping for your animals. I think making a video about your grocery trip would be awesome! It would be a great way to show fellow tortoise and turtle owners like myself what you feed them, maybe give an insight on what foods are beneficial and give a glimpse at just how much work goes into feeding and taking care of your animals!

Hi kenan I love how you check on the turtles. They get excited when they see you coming.Lumpy is like dad this hole was already here, it just happens to be the same size of me. The turtles are all so pretty. I like the ones with the red on their feet. The ones with the pointed shell are pretty. Are those the ones from Madagascar? Your property is so beautiful. All those turtles are so lucky, to to spend their life, and be happy, and healthy. The reptiles to. Slinky will be so happy when his enclosure is finished. Cindy

Great stuff, a big part of these videos is how all of these different elements you have on your property come together to create this incredible reptile paradise. earlier in the vid you said that it's very attainable, I hope so. for the fencing please consider laying or installing a horizontal barrier on top.. so that it makes a 90 degree angle on both sides! This is practice used to keep cats from escaping balconies / fenced yards. not many animals will be able to or want to attempt climbing around it. It's seemingly effective .
