I used to live in Thailand. It's generally pretty safe for foreigners who leave the touristy areas so long as they make an effort to respect their local customs and it's definitely safer than anywhere in Latin America. God bless and stay safe.

Yeah they give out 3-15 years in prison for each count, for talking about the King & his family. It’s called the “Lèse-majesté” law in Thailand implemented in 1908. They recently gave someone 87 years in prison in 2021, for talking about the King. So avoid any political talk. They have stiff drug laws too, they give life in prison or the death penalty for drugs there. So be careful, & avoid those 2 things & you should be good.

The 3 main tourist area's have recovered business the most right now. The country is still at about only half of the tourist numbers from 2019, it will get there but just not yet. I got to see the recovery in real time. Patong beach was busy, but 5 minutes away was dead. Now all of Phuket is busy. It is slowly spready out from the 3 main hubs.

I'd strongly recommend when moving to foreign countries or even new usa cities for this matter to make friends with solid other men to be your tour guide otherwise you are setting yourself up royally by doing it with a woman.
