Kairouan is a city in northern Tunisia’s inland desert. It became a powerful trading hub and center of Islamic scholarship in the 9th century, when Aghlabid emirs ruled Kairouan and built many of its monuments. The Great Mosque, on the edge of the medina, with its antique columns and imposing minaret, dates from this period and is a major pilgrimage site. For Muslims, 7 trips here are said to equal one hajj to Mecca.

Mindful, here, that you are wonderfully bilingual and that matters when you are sharing your travels, filming people, sharing your experiences with different cultures, viewing the sights, and exploring the sounds all around the world! The beautiful cultural art, the carpets, makes my heart smile with inspiration! You are so practical and street smart about with your filming and explaining. TBH, You are a single man traveling about religious cultures that embrace you or deflect you but as a woman, appreciating your travels, you'd agree, I could not traverse so freely in certain cultures but that's why I appreciate your channel. You're likable!

for me..... I honestly think you are the best African travel vlogger.....your story telling style is s unique and your approach tends to bring it down alot such that one gets to experience the culture, history and even the contemporary way of life of the people/place you are filming.... MashAllah keep going ♥️.

Glad you enjoyed your visit to Kairouan and the mean Mlawi sandwich! 🤣 I have been living and working in Tunisia for the past three years researching the upcoming Bradt Travel Guide to Tunisia, which will be published in June 2023. One of the things I also love about the country is the Islamic architecture, and there are few better examples than the UNESCO World Heritage-rated Great Mosque of Kairouan!

May I ask how you got from Houmt Souk to Kairouan? I'm looking at visiting both places, but my online research suggests the easiest way to go is to fly from Djerba to Tunis and catch a bus from there! Is there a bus that goes between Houmt Souk and Kairouan, or did you take a taxi?
@visualpoet1
@visualpoet1 Жыл бұрын
Andy Baker Yes, you can do it by mini-bus called Louage. They can connect you to anywhere you want to go in Tunisia. Taxis are costy!!!

I’ve seen your videos about Touba and now this other place in Tunisia and you always mentioning as holiest places in Islam. I think you should shy away for such utterances and focus on videos showing cultures and about how people live. In Islam there are only three holy place we can visit and that is Kabba the the prophet’s mosque in and Madjid Al Aqsa. All the those places you are talking about whether it was Senegal or Tunisia are nothing but practicing Sufism. Am not judging or pointing fingers at anyone but just be careful with the information you are putting out there. Forgive if might I have come out too harsh. I’m just human too. Keep up the good work and May Allah bless you.

@@visualpoet1 And you are doing a wonderful job at it too. I like how you always respect the local people and their way of life. For those of living in the diaspora you are our lens to the past we missed and besides educating a lot of us about people who look just like us and living in different part of the globe. Once again thank you for the great work you doing.

brother you're totally wrong a tating Kairouan was a 9th century city but it was found by the early Arabs invasion of Tunisia or old Ifriquiya in 670-671 and it was the first Ialamic city built by Arabs in the whole of Africa. good luck to you brother
