Bad weather, crowds, security, injuries. This battle is brutal! Chris stomps an epic blizzard-flip over and over and yet a roll-away requires an all-out war.

@@Lup3r One of them looked close, but in the end it doesn't really matter. Long boring answer: Used to work in medical publishing, and once did a training module where the NFL has sourced some of the top neurologists in the country to help develop a better helmet. IIRC there had recently been a spat of CTE-related violence that were making bad headlines for the league. The takeaway is that there's no possible way to protect your brain with a helmet when it comes to things like this, because the damage comes from the brain slapping the inside of your skull. You don't even have to hit the ground, you can get a minor concussion from whiplash, and the damage is also mostly from long-term accumulation. Most of the NFL has CTE because they're on painkillers and are slowly building up brain damage during practice and games. Skaters just self-medicate. Think of it like the bell that gets rung quietly and constantly. It's cool that Andy Anderson wants to promote safety, but that helmet isn't really protecting anybody that is doing stuff to flat like Joslin. Even a make is a chip off the dome from that height. Jaws might be the exception, but that's because he has some next-world landing gear.

True overall bigger tricks down bigger gaps and more technical techies too. But old Koston, Wenning, Daewon, Kalis videos...they had way sicker style than most people and skated faster too. Like when they hit a ledge it would be explosive most guys now do something more complex but they land in a revert. And if anyone made that look sweet it was ANTWUAN DIXON. ALSO no one has remotely touched most of Mullen in almost round 2 or 3. He laid down enough primo shit to make people just consider it a joke to even try.
@ManiacDrummer1212

Jawnee Five EXACTLY GORGEOUS REPLY MAN ON THE DOT!!!! I absolutely love Joslin, O'niell, nyjah, Sewa, Silvas, Kremer (just met him last weekend!), And too many to name nowadays but sometimes it doesn't do the trick for me to get me hyped to skate til I just watch an old Jamie Thomas or something part. That's exactly it in this interview Josh Kalis talks about "well you can bs noseslide down that hubba that's sick but WHAT will the photo look like a nose stall or a nose SLIDE" or something along those lines. It makes sense like if the peak of the trick isn't explosive what is it then? Also manuals nowadays are not a dang thing compared to Mullen, Daewon, and I forgot....Chris Cole! He got access to the skating game by winning a Mullen-sponspored Manny contest
@ManiacDrummer1212
@ManiacDrummer1212 6 жыл бұрын
Jawnee Five and yes about Mullen man he calls his tricks nerdy but he would shut down literally any park in Detroit where I'm from and that's him NOW. lol after fusing his hip to his femur from popping so much, then healing it somehow, then putting out a new part years later WTF.... Okay handrails are sick but a one footed 540 shuv and like massive fakie lazer he could just DO for you. I'm trying to learn Casper Tres just on a bank and I almost have it but it like kills my brain bc I have to think so hard lol and he DOES think nothing of it like "I'm not the godfather of street skating I'm just Rodney" lol WHUT
@ManiacDrummer1212
@ManiacDrummer1212 6 жыл бұрын
Jawnee Five so true! One of his videos the one where he's focused on creative expression and it's black and white, that single video alone made me so sad I had let skating slip away from me in college that I immediately ordered a complete. Glad I did Entrepreneurship bc not only has it made me focus on bringing unique skating to the table, but also how to make business out of it. I want to make it accessible again like it was in 2001 or so. Not this stupid cliquey red bull stuff like you were saying (but red bull Hart lines... Amazing gift to Detroit and I almost cried they didn't bring it back this year). It's tough in this world of social media and instant gratification. I want kids nowadays when they don't have school in the summer to be like me and just go find homies to skate with. I want there to be these gangs of kids that welcome anyone with a board to be a fellow gangster.

The Silent Ewok I don't really know either but they have a poll each year. It's just..getting named SOTY shouldn't be a goal to achieve, but just an honour, at least that's what I think. Kind of like a Nobel Prize for literature or something. It's getting more and more like a contest and I don't understand why. It's a piece of metal. It's not important.
@filmbuff4

SOTY is important, it's the holy grail of skateboarding. And since Foy already won last year its just more reason to give it to Joslin this year. His insanity down Wallendberg already clinched it imo.
