I attend a 1 week winter school for Nuclear Physics graduate students called TMD school 2022. Follow me throughout the week and see all the interesting topics we learn about.
All of the lectures can be found here (time stamps are currently being added to the videos):

@AndrewDotsonvideos

They’re in the description (I can’t upload my talk as it hasn’t been published yet). I recommend holding off for a few days on checking out the lectures until I’ve had time to add time stamps to all the videos. I’ll post in my community tab once it’s done, but I figured I’d put it in the description anyway.

Just wanted to share that last week I was offered admission to the PhD program at ODU! Still waiting for other offers, but since I also have interest in the applications of QCD to nuclear and particle physics, ODU is a top choice for me.

Hey Andrew, I am actually considering doing a summer school (rather than a winter school) at GSI Darmstadt, Germany. Of course a bit different than this, but I was wondering whether you have had any experiences with summer schools and if you think it is worth it. For me it seems fun and all but I am not sure if it is worth throwing away the entire summer (8 weeks), mainly because I have a very busy period coming up with my bachelor thesis and after the summer I am starting with my masters in Physics so I might need a bit of holiday in between. Anyway this is the reason I am not sure yet if I want to do it. Do you think you can give me any advice on this?

yeah i study AGN jets as well!! 😎 oh that note: do you notice that in astrophysics there are much more women than in nuclear physics?? That is at least my experience and I really don’t understand why.. let me know if you have a theory as to why that is or if it is different in your experience 🤓 love to see how your videos evolve with you!
@AndrewDotsonvideos
@AndrewDotsonvideos 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it does seem that way to me as well. Could be that interest in astronomy is nurtured more for young women than interest in other areas in stem on average, really not sure though. Lack of role models in the field (there are a few really heavy hitters in nuclear physics that are women, just not many women in general) is another possible reason. There is this massive proposal in nuclear physics currently being written by majority women and everyone is really optimistic for it passing which is pretty cool. So In the near future I think we could expect a surge of new post doc positions that could be filled by women which would be great for the role model argument. These are just observations from the outside though, I can’t speak on womens actual experiences in the field.

Physics undergrad here. After watching most of your videos I am terrified of my lack of mathmatical skill (it’s not non existent just feels lacking) but I don’t have much if any time to take more math classes in my major as I started my physics major a bit late Any tips?
@AndrewDotsonvideos
@AndrewDotsonvideos 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of the higher level math you eventually might need (tensor calculus, group theory, etc) is often taught in house rather than taking a formal course in the math department. Especially a math methods course will be helpful assuming youll have to take one of those, if not in undergrad than in grad school for sure. I felt the same way in undergrad but I got there eventually!
