I am not sure if this was an easter egg put in by the production team or a fan theory but regardless, the movie has an interesting connection to Men in Black. During the scene with Jumba Jookiba chasing Lilo and Stitch around the house, he mentions that he loves the Elvis song that is playing. Jumba has never been to Earth, so how would he have heard it before? Well, in the first Men in Black, K mentions that Elvis didn't actually die, he just went home, implying that he was an alien, which would explain why Jumba knows the song.
@SubzeroBlack68
@SubzeroBlack68 7 ай бұрын
Well in the movie they state that the aliens made contact with Earth before. Bubbles even remarks about Roswell So there should be some forms of cultural exchanges. Also Nasa in real life has sent out music and various radio transmissions into space over the decades. So it wouldnt be weird for the aliens to have saved transmissions from Earth

@@SubzeroBlack68 Also radio signals are sent at the speed of light, Bubbles mentions Roswell 1973 and Lilo Implies Elvis is dead saying "Elvis had his bad days" (he died in 1977), and the fire truck at the house looks like it might be a Hummer Forest Firetruck (1992+)

Lilo and Nani's relationship is extremely underrated, and much more interesting and emotional than Anna and Elsa's from Frozen IMO. Nani gives up her future (in her room she has a lot of surfing trophies), in order to take care of Lilo after their parents died in the tragic accident and the way she tries to work hard to take care of her and not get taken from her is because they are all they have left.

fun fact: the song nani sings to lilo on the hammock was written by queen lili'uokalani (the last hawaiian monarch). queen lili'uokalani wrote this song as an apology and a farewell to her people when she had to forcefully sign away hawai'i to the united states. i really wish hawaiian history was taught in schools just so people can be more educated on how hawai'i became the 50th state.

The scene where Stitch and Jumba have their fight was originally a lot more violent and parents complained at a test screening so new shots were done while certain moments were altered to make it more comedic than violent such as the swiss army knife of weapons became a "swiss army knife" including a mini tube of tooth paste and instead of Jumba blasting the ceiling with plasma blasts it was altered to throw plates. A big change was the ending where now is the Hot Potato game of Jumba's overloaded blaster, originally Stitch was to rip the stove off and because it is a gas stove, when Jumba fired, the gas lit by the plasma blast caused the explosion.

In the audio commentary, they go into more detail about why they changed the scene. The directors had said that they always intended that whole sequence to be a funny scene and they thought what they came up with was pretty funny. However, in one of the test screenings, nobody in the audience found the scene funny. They were actually concerned that Stitch was gonna get hurt. Which wasn’t their intentions. So they decided to go back and beef the scene up a bit by adding a lot more jokes and toning down the violence a bit

One of those times where you see Disney having collected some amazing talent and them getting to run loose to great effect. One thing I really like about the art style is this bottom-heavy thickness in all the character designs. Its an attempt to imply the perspective of a little girl looking up at world taller than them. Its not the only aspect of the flick that has a unique spin from Disney's general style at the time. They were able to pull this off because the team worked out of MGM in Florida - heavily dependent on their own small team of hungry, young talent and largely out of sight and away from the temptations of meddling from the larger home office.

Fun fact: The model city that Stitch builds in Lilo's room shows off Stitch's impressive memory. He wouldn't have had knowledge of Earth cities before his crash landing. And yet, he is able to build a replica of a very specific Earth city: San Francisco. But why? And how did he know about San Francisco? Because when he was going through town with Lilo earlier that day, he was flipping through postcards. One of the postcards he was looking at was for San Francisco. Stitch created a model replica of an Earth city based entirely on a postcard that he only saw in passing.

This is likely one of the first film to alter its film due to the events of 9/11. The original climax was Stitch and Co. stealing a passenger jet plane to save Lilo and the two ships were flying through a city (which was likely based off the climax of CON AIR). However, the scenes had just finished being animated and then, the terrorist attacks on September 11th happened, so the filmmakers literally re-designed the plane into a spaceship (which is literally coordinated "Red, White and Blue") and the city was CGI-ed into a mountain range. Nearly a decade later, the original scene was released on DVD (and can largely be found on KZfaq)

Fun trivia fact for this movie: The final two planes sequence was originally planned to have them fly around in the middle of a city on the island rather than through the mountains, but then 9/11 happened during the final production cycle(s) and so the directors decided it would be best to change it so as to not invoke the image of two plains flying around a couple of tall buildings.

Nani and Lilo’s relationship always makes me so emotional. Nani is only around 18/19 so is barely an adult but had to give up her future to look after her baby sister after their parents passed. They’re both grieving but Lilo is of course acting out making it even harder on Nani. They love each other but Lilo is only a kid and is traumatised from losing her parents which makes it harder for Nani. Now they have the threat of being separated from one another after already losing their parents. I’m 21 and have 2 sisters age 5 and 6. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to raise them (and I definitely would) if my mother ever passed away.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this. The imactic spaceship chase was originally very different. It involved Stitch and group stealing a 747 from Honolulu airport to chase after Lilo. They chased through downtown, hitting several buildings. Then 9/11 happened about 5 months before the release. And they had to emergency reanimate the whole sequence to be in mountain valleys. They kept almost all of the motion and camera angles, just swapped backgrounds, animated over the 747. Ice cream dude was in a crosswalk originally. Just put him in the valley bottom. There is video of the original storyboard animatics for the sequence on youtube. It's pretty cool to see, but honestly the way it worked out is actually much better. It feels cleaner and less busy.

And the big change: following 9/11 the red ship they fly in the end was originally a 757 plane that flew in between buildings. They changed it to an alien ship and mountains

The chase between Stich and Jumba against Gantu were heavily altered because originally, the chase between the two space ships originally was going to be Gantu's ship vs a comendeered Boeng 747 (the cut scene showed how Stitch got aboard the jet right before take-off and scaring the staff and passangers off the plane so he, Jumba, Pleakly and Nani could commendeer it to chase after Gantu) and it happened in Kanui's capitol and the unlucky tourist who gets his ice cream knocked out of his cone was crossing the street when the edge of the jet's place knocked out his ice cream. Then 9/11 happened and Disney couldn't just have the scene be like this as it would be disrespectful to the victims of the 9/11, as the jet crashed into World Trade Center was hijacked and it happened in the city. So a new shot were added to show where Jumba had parked his space ship. The Boeng 747 were altered to make it look like a space ship and while most the animation was kept the same, the backgrounds where changed to take place on the mountains of the island, rather than the city, plus the ice cream guy were lying on a beach chair next to a river in the jungle.

This movie manages to be absolutely adorable and heartwarming while also being heartcrushing. Lilo is so adorable but so lost and confused. Noni is trying her best but being a parent suddenly when you're just a sister has to be confusing and so hard. Both still grieving. Stitch doesn't know who he is or where he is from but he wants more having seen a family. Lilo talking to him about how he cries at night kills me every time. It's a maturity level a child should not have but she has been through a deep trauma and understands. It's a beautiful movie with fun characters and a great story. AMAZING music.

I love this movie so much. My favorite along side Iron giant. So much emotion throughout the whole movie and the significance of the name Lilo and Stitch is great. Also the idea that she feeds a fish that controls the weather then explains parents death really hits hard

Not me unintentionally being prepared for this video by wearing my Stitch Disneyland Spirit Jersey and the Stitch lounge pants I got at Walmart last night! It’s what I slept in last night and haven’t changed yet, but it’s perfect!

I love the advertisements for stitch where he is in other Disney movies causing chaos. Like the one where he is messing with beauty and the beast.

The end fight in the house was originally a lot more violent and it was clear Jumba was trying to kill Stitch. I guess they reanimated it for the same reason as the plane redo so that the film would be a bit more lighter in the aftermath of 9/11. Its also why Jumbas proportions (specially his eyes) change so much during the movie as his scenes were reanimationed

This was by far disney's best story of sibling love ever. Nani was only 19 when their parents died, and she was training to be a pro Surfer(you can tell by all the trophies in her room) but she gave it all up to get a job to support lilo so that lilo could stay with her family

As a Hawaiian person, this is exactly how anyone if my family members would be if one of the adults in the family died. We don’t give a shit about ANYTHING but family. I quit my most recent job at Disneyland (😢) all to take care of my dad.

Second favorite Disney animated movie. Beauty and the beast being number one. Awesome selection. Love Lilo being a real little girl and also just loving Elvis. Also vote again on maybe reacting to some of those crazy Elvis movies lol
