Another awesome video Chigg. My father in-law served in the Navy and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a Chief Warrant Carpenter and while serving on the USS Hampton, a troop transport vessel, he made a set of ashtrays from every size shell that the ship carried. I inherited these along with his papers and cherish them in my archive on the families history. You have some great stuff and I really enjoyed the video. Once again you have helped educate me on a subject I have long had an interest in. Now I will go find those ashtrays and take a look at their bottoms to see what information I can get from them. Thanks once again for a great video.

You are correct on the 3-inch casing and the 75mm shell. The 76mm gun was just the 3-inch shell in a smaller case so they would fit in the tank turret. The 3-inch guns were used as towed anti-tank guns, anti-aircraft guns, and in M10 tank destroyers. If that steel case fit the 37mm round but is rimless, it's for the 37mm anti-aircraft gun. Those cases were the same length as the tank/anti-tank guns, but the tank guns used a rimmed cartridge case. Very neat stuff!

The bayonets are for the M1 Garand. They are the 1943 pattern of shortened M1905 to 10 inches. This can be seen by the blood groove on the blade going all the way to the tip. I have the same model for my M1.

Great collection. The 3 inch gun is a common item in small town parks, VFW, American Legion Halls, and court house lawns around the country. It is in fact a 76mm gun that was used as light artillery and sometimes as an anti tank weapon. It was adopted before the US switched to the metric system for large guns. It's weakness was the low velocity of the round. As it was meant to fire explosive rounds as artillery the lower speed of the shell was safer when firing the explosive rounds. When the war started those small 37mm rounds were the ones intended for anti tank duty. However the race in armor soon made them obsolete and the 75 and then 76 were brought in. By the end of the war 90 and 105 mm guns became the tank killers.

I served aboard a destroyer in the mid 60's and that's the same style mess tray we took through the mess line. When we were in rough seas we pressed them down on a slice of bread to the table to keep them from sliding as the ship pitched and rolled. Sometimes you would have to lift your tray to allow a runaway tray to slide by. Eventually the new shipmates learned the trick. T

Those shotgun type rounds and modern flechette rounds "beehive" were sometimes used to defend artillery positions. They could adjust charge for short range and the battery would go to a zero elevation and fire a sheaf of antipersonnel projectiles. Creating devastating lethal effects to assaulting infantry. Anti personnel were ground VT or VT quick, air burst for troops in holes. Now includes regular schrapnel that can be directed in patterns. Awesome firepower "King of Battle". Fantastic collection Chigg!! Another great video. :D

Evening AquaChigger, I'm a fairly new to your channel (about a month) but thoroughly enjoy your videos. I've always day dreamed about treasure hunting and decided to get a metal detector in the Fall of 2016. Through my research on which detector to buy, I discovered your channel by chance. I've noticed a few rivers you've been in are you've commented they stink or you're spitting out the water. Have you ever searched a river and got sick or thought to yourself what the hell I'm I doing in this polluted mess? Cheers, Adam
