Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This KZfaq channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.
If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

Didn't see much in the way of bad golf there to be fair, just the length got you by the looks of it. I'd imagine that would be a tough challenge for a current tour pro as well.

This is long, but for someone that can hit it 300 off tee, you have just enough distance to reach these. What you will need is a great short game, because even tho you can reach, it is likely you will be missing the green. And that’s exactly what happened. For me, it was the length + your short game not being in great touch that caused this score. I would LOVE to see you make a series of videos to sort your chipping and putting out, with the sole purpose to come back to this course and shoot a much better score. If your short game is much better, you will break 80 on here no sweat!

I've played Rockcliffe Hall from the yellow tees some years ago. Especially difficult to play a first round on. Even when you grasp the yardages, it is a difficult trail. It is why tour pros play practice rounds. You can't turn up like Rick has done and expect to score. And you aren't going to get the carry and run in November either.

@@BatMan-xr8gg Absolutely, I am. He did remarkably well. (He didn't even employ the services of a caddy, where local knowledge would have given him vital insight to distances, carry, greens, run-offs, etc.) Like many courses designed for tour-level play, there are so many aspects to these courses that require the experience of playing them at least once before there can be any expectation of scoring well. The old courses on The Open roster by comparison are much more readable and honest(?) There are many courses much more enjoyable than Rockliffe Hall in the area: Slaley Hall (ex-European Tour tournament host), Wynyard, and Seaton Carew (Open qualifier venue). Just my opinion, naturally. Length has become an obsession, hasn't it?

Loved it - and brings to mind the whole debate that began when Tiger-proofing golf courses started: Do we want to see pros struggle? In some ways, yes! this validates how us in higher handicap brackets feel quite often... it confirms the game can be tough on all of us. In other ways, yes... but with a twist: many of us know the EXACT SAME FEELINGS you experienced on most holes, that is the frustration of paying a big price for small errors like a good center-strike off the tee, only to find it 10 feet into cabbage-like rough, or hitting the best driver & 3wood combo of shots and still coming up 60 yards short of the front edge. the twist is getting to watch you and other pros deal with it. What is your mindset? what club will you use for the shot out of the heavy rough? what club and swing are you putting on the 60 yard 3rd shot? In the end, a great video - and thanks for baring yourself to that course for our benefit.

Hi Rick, I started golf this year (April 2021)and like many others your videos are my golf bible. I like if you post some more videos which would help a lot as either I missed yours or don't find it. 1. Distance between ball and your feet (as this creates how much knee bending you do is decided) 2. The clubs have an angle (lie) so how to hold the iron as such or try to hold it flat bottom 3. Backswing how far you take a club? What happens if u over do or have less swing length. How does this vary between clubs or always stays the same. 4. How to increase your club speed Somemore will post later. As these fine tuning would be great and many a times it's not said or shown in videos.

@@Cautionary_Tale_Harris A genuine flaw in many of our games, I agree. All I know is that I play a lot better if I take what the course gives me rather than expecting to play to my handicap on a never-before-seen course. I'm not going to shoot 78 on every course, every time.

Thought the same thing as his driving seemed quite good / thought he had a lot of long approach shots which were mediocre and his putting was below average. A hot putter could have saved him a couple of stokes and closer approach shots would have left him easier putts / he should play it again from different tees as I'm thinking it was mostly just the length of the shots to hit the green which caused his score rather than bad play

Hey Rick, I really enjoyed that video, not because you were suffering as such, as we all know Golf is a stupid bloody game, but because you keep it real and still show it when it's not good as well, as opposed to making it look like your game is fairytales the whole time. Your channel is successful BECAUSE of things like this, not despite it. That course is a monster and would eat up anyone who didn't have their A game that day!!

I'm lucky to be a member at Rockliffe. To pick up on a few comments. Its c6500 of the yellows 6800 of the whites (which is the standard member tees), 7200 off the blacks and 7800 of the golds. You can pick your teebox, though not many try the golds except for the annual gold cup. So it's only ridiculously long if you want to be. Fairways are generous, greens are large, bunkers and water abound as you probably noticed. It's a good test of golf but generally flat wide fairways make all but a few holes accessable for everyone. My 6 year old loves it! It's also very open and when the wind blows, which it does regularly, you know about it. The course record (63) referred to in the senior open was (if it was the same senior open I watched a few years ago) in good weather off a mix of the more forward tees... ie i'd say set up with less difficuly overall than playing the whites. Scoring was generally low across the board. If you're in the area give it a go. Great facilities and a friendly welcome.

Liked the video - Q: When things are not going well, how ready are you to embrace 'going to the basics'? E.g. Lining up each shot, paying more attention to landing zone, wind, correct distance to the landing zone for best club choice, etc.? What is going through your mind, other than 'let's get this done and on to a pint'? Thanks for bringing real content.
