My Worst Hill Camp: Heavy Rain And Strong Winds

Last minute wild camp in the cheviot hill's the weather is terrible strong winds and heavy Rain forecast yet I'm still heading out did I make a mistake.
my plan was to have a short walk up to a hill and set up for the night and just chill out in the tent that didn't happen.
I made a big mistake and had to find a new location while being chased by cow's and the weather was about to change for the worse after a few miles I find a cracking spot for the night but setting up in strong winds and heavy Rain was a nightmare as I get settled in and enjoy the night I wake up to an amazing surprise then the weather picks up again with strong winds.
this was my worst experience on the hill's so far.

In rain like that, I pitch the flysheet 1st, then the footprint, then the inner, saves getting those puddles like you had. Means having your inner and outer tent separate whilst carrying but I've found that can save more space once compressed. Hopefully the weather will be kinder on your next outing when up the hills. Damn Jimmy that was some serious weather to deal with . It's been so hot here I haven't been able to get out and go anywhere . The feels like temp. has been 105 for the last 2 weeks , I just can't take that heat. Have a great one my friend and I will see you on the next adventure. Dwayne

Awesome video per usual. Sunset vs. sunrise, it’s a logical stumble for a bloke who works nights. One man’s sunset is another man’s sunrise 🥸. I was starting to get worried when you appeared on camera topless….was thinking, where in Jesus-is this going? Lundy’s variant of Naked and Alone? The only thing that was missing from the Holy Trinity was Roney, that way you could’ve had, “It’s raining , it’s pouring and the old man is snoring 💤 “. Know how you felt, worked a Guns and Roses concert yesterday. The skies opened up and hosed down the concert goers. You could smell the damp & sweaty leather from a distance. OMG , what a nightmare setting up that tent, so much easier with the tents i have just now, the hilleberg anjan 2 and Akto. For the Anjan , you just peg out 2 corners, slide in 2 parallel poles into the flysheet , extend tent which has inner and groundsheet attached to the flysheet then peg out the other 2 corners. Guylines can then be pegged out if you wish.

I have same tent and groundsheet. I've find it easier in high winds to put tent up then feed the groundsheet underneath b4 pegging it all down. It's about the only bit of knowledge I have mind you 😅

Good on you for sticking with it and not ditching the camp. Top tip, tie a guy line to your back pack when you’re setting up in the wind in case the tent blows away👍

Crappy weather Jimmy 😮 Still you made the best of it mate, I liked the way you left the full pitch in the rain, it shows people how difficult but easy it is to just put your tent up, especially if you know how it pitches. Great sunrise 🌅

Hi Jimmy, you managed a good camp in the end,in a great spot, And unusual for you a bit of swearing, you must have been stressed lol, how was the water coming off your ground sheet into your tent ? Have you a pin hole ? In the bath tub ? Enjoyed the camp, glad it’s not just me having Cow problems !!! Cheers Adrian

Better you than me Jimmy - call me a fair weather camper- I don't care- not my Idea of fun camping in wind and rain. I've done it in the past and it was not an enjoyable experience.
