4 жыл бұрынWhile I haven't finished my MSc yet, I have now completely moved out of Oxford... ☹️💔 I was really lucky to make some amazing friends and do some wonderful things: here are some of the highlights in a "one second everyday" video. Some of the quality has been lost somewhere getting this between my phone and my laptop and back again, but I hope you enjoy it anyway 😊 Anyway - so long, Oxford.

to answer some questions that seem to be coming up a lot: • no, I haven't graduated / got the degree yet, but all remaining teaching and assesment is going to be done remotely so I (and other UK-based students with a safe home to return to) will not be returning to oxford • no, I don't know the format / date of my exams yet - and I'm also not going to talk about this (sorry) because understandably it's a really stressful time for all of us and I'm trying not to dwell on it • yes, I do actually have something lined up for post-graduation - but I'll talk about that closer to the time 😊

I am a man from India. It is very good to see more girls take this kind of subjects. I like to see more women come and dazzle in this field. You are a motivation for everyone.

Don't mention it. I admire the confidence that you have in yourself. Girls are underrepresented in the subject that you study so I believe that you and the companions that you have can change that notion through your uploads. And make your self safe from COVID 19 Pandemic. I am also in trepidation due to this pandemic and subsequent lockdown. So be safe. I guess you can also come up with some brilliant ideas to combat this adversary which is an enemy to humanity.

A fellow runner! I plan on applying to Cambridge (sorry!) but as someone who trains 6 days a week and regularly competes, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to balance academics and training. This was super helpful!

Aw, this is so sad as well as a great video. So sorry your experience was cut short. I’m a DPhil at Oxford, for a few years more, so feel free to come have coffee when it’s ‘normal’ again!

This video gave me peace (I've watched it three times), I paused it when you pictured the tents when camping, it literally seemed like the Rally we went to on February (in Bath) but then I realized this one was in November!

Hi! I just discovered your channel and I’m in Year 7. I study in Nigeria but I’m going abroad to study in the U.K. for Year 8-A levels. This is amazing! Really like your video, reminds me of all the good things. I’m also an Oxford student myself and hate to say goodbye to it sooner because of the pandemic. Nevertheless, it was an extraordinary and memorable experience.

A-level exams have also been canceled uhhhh I was so ready.......... I have an offer to read physics at UoB and yeah I guess it sucks for all of us. But again I am grateful that I got consistent As and A*s all year, whereas there are people who maybe aren't as fortunate. All in all I'm happy but yeah uncertain times...... Oh and well done for all the hard work you've put in at Oxford, I'm positive that you will do well and go far in physics and life:)

Hi Alice, loved the video, warmed my heart. I'm curious, how'd you decide between Oxford and Cambridge? Both are strong obviously, though stereotypically speaking, Cambridge being more STEM-heavy (eg, going by Nobel Laureates) and Oxford being stronger in humanities (eg, looking at Prime Ministers, especially in the last 50 year), so I was wondering what was the deciding factor? Was it an easy decision choosing Oxford over Cambridge?

thanks grant! 😁 glad you enjoyed! would say that the above is just a stereotype like you said, and since both courses were virtually identical and oxford offered me a full scholarship, that basically made the decision for me 😊 (although the oxford MSc class size is much smaller, which might have swayed my decision without the scholarship)

I am surprised MSc only took 7 months, is that a common thing in the UK? I have never heard of MSc less than a year and it is almost never less than 2 years in my uni

Are the universitys completely closed? Are there no online courses or courses in the summertime? In GB the vacation are 3 months, isn't it? And did you get your degree now? I'm not sure, the universities in my country should open (there is winterbreak now until 16 of april) at 20. of April. I'm not sure, they would. There was an emergency call from the government today... What do you do now? I mean, after the university? Postgraduate studys?

UK universities are not completely closed (research and accomodation still open for those with nowhere else to go), but home students highly encouraged to leave and the UK as a whole is now on lockdown as of monday evening. My MSc was 9 months, so meant to end in June. Yes, I'll have some form of online teaching / assessment next term, but we haven't been told the format of it yet (but we're definitely not moving back into Oxford). I have something lined up for post-graduation (which is early August, but again probably in absence), but I'll talk about that in another video 😊

By my knowledge..I thought the master degree is of 2 year.. but you have mentioned in video that it's of 9 months..after I search on Google I came to know it's 4 year in which 1 year is MSc and 3 year phd.....can you explain me please

yes, in the UK in the sciences: a BSc is three years, an MSc is (usually) one year, a PhD is usually three or four years

only at undergrad - at postgrad you can apply wherever you want, there's no central admissions platform like UCAS :)

yes - got an offer for cambridge maths part iii too, but chose oxford since I got a full scholarship 😊

@@alicedoesphysics I am an international student with an offer for a master's at Oxford but won't be able to go as I can't afford it. I've heard people say an offer without funding is no offer at all, or that I shouldn't have applied in the first place if I knew I wouldn't be able to afford it;; I am anxious to miss out on this opportunity but I know there is nothing I can do. Now I don't know whether to continue my studies at a university in my home country or do something else and try again later on. I just think if I reapplied at a later point, my chances of getting in would probably be lower, and the likelihood of receiving any kind of funding will probably be as well. :/

You seem happy as if you are taking a tour of MIT or CALTECH. Oxford might have good history but it doesn't create people who makes Google or Microsoft
