Start reading about the history of Myanmar, and you will soon come across the name of the country's national hero Aung San, known affectionately as Bogyoke. Bogyoke Aung San is considered the founding father of Myanmar (Burma), yet he did not live to see the event - the official independence of Myanmar - that he fought so long and so hard for.
With all that in mind, I could think of no better destination for this day's walk in Yangon than the Bogyoke Aung San Museum.

Aung San Syu Kyi is much well-known globally but the father despite being a major important figure of Burma is lesser known globally. It is worth mentioning, the 3rd Secretary-General of the UN was Mr. U Thant of Burma. He was the first non-european to hold the that important post. As always your vlog is very informative.

6:00 I searched for this after the recent news from Myanmar. And yeah, Aung San's death is indeed a huge tragedy, as I feel like it literally set back the country for decades. He had great plans, at least compared to all the bandits from the very military he created that followed, for his country, including a vision for a multi-ethnical Myanmar that unites in her diversity, something even her daughter's civilian government struggles to achieve (albeit with interference with the military who's always been calling the shots). I feel that if he could have lived longer the country would not be where it is today. In fact Myanmar is one of the only countries in Asia (especially SE & South Asia) that's still not even considered a developing country (falling into the lowest category of least developed countries), which is something many military dictatorships avoided. In fact many military (and other forms of) dictators still has supporters today because they laid the foundation of a thriving economy, like S Korea, Taiwan, Chile, Brazil, etc., and is used as a claim against liberalization politically for technocrats, like Singapore, and increasingly, China.

If you end up visiting Nay Pyi Daw you should go visit the defense service museum. There are alot of Bo Gyoke Aung San belongings there like his katana and his bullet proof car. Also the museum is know for it's hung size and the amount of items on display it would take 3-4 hours to see it all.

Myanmar was one of the richest countries in asia in terms of natural resources and before their military junta took over. We have many Myanmar people working in Malaysia, some of them are my friends, nice people. I just love talking to them.

Thanks for the positive comment but our military general save our country from british ,communist ,kndo, Kuomintang (today called taiwan), and various ethnic ribels . New generations are more educated than previous generations . We know our country history without any biased .

Ofcourse now your country is better because the military junta is not ruling your country. That supports exactly what I am saying and most of the Myanmar people who works in other countries is not by choice but necessity. Which part of your history are you claiming I am not getting? You seem to have a vested interest in the military junta from what I can deduce.

Thank you. In a way, that was the highlight of the visit for me: just to see the house itself, the inside and the outside. Most of what I learned about Aung San came from reading articles online. The museum itself was more about seeing where the man lived and getting a sense of his personal life. I enjoyed the visit very much.

Sule is a pretty rough place to live in considering all the noises. I'd go for Insein. It's silent over there. Bus Number 82 runs over to Insein if you want to check it out

The video as a whole is short mainly because I'm currently having difficulties with slow Internet and power blackouts. It's difficult to export a long video file because the power goes out right in the middle of the process, and I lose everything and have to start over again. The same thing for uploading. I'll leave my computer on all night to upload a video file, but at some point, the power goes out, my computer shuts down, and the file never gets uploaded. So I had to make the video files shorter and shorter just to finish exporting and uploading them. But I also wanted to experiment with shorter videos. My usual long videos are not the norm for KZfaq, and I wondered if people would like shorter videos better. On this day, for example, I did much more than visit the Bogyoke Aung San Museum. In fact, I did all this: 1. Tried to buy a train ticket 2. Walked over 5 kilometers through the streets 3. Explored Kandawgyi Lake 4. Visited Chauk Htat Kyi Pagoda 5. Bogyoke Aung San Museum All of that was actually part of the same day and the same walk, and if I had kept it all together, it would have been one long video with a more natural flow. But instead, I split it up into 4 separate shorter videos while leaving out a bunch of experiences I had. They probably felt a bit disjointed or stopped and started suddenly because they were never intended to be separate videos. I just chopped up the original long video into parts. 😃

To me, Bogyoke pronounces "Bo Jote." I hope you can visit Inle Lay Lake and Pyin Oo Lwin. I don't know how hot Inle Lay Lake but the boat ride was quite long that I got a bad sun burn. So if you go there, at least wearing a hat is my recommendation. I think Pyin Oo Lwin has some remnants of colonial buildings for you to check out and it's a much cooler place from what I remember. Right now, the low in the 60s and high in the upper 70s, so that's just a lovely weather.

When I pronounce Joke, it sort of ends with kh with trailing k sounding. For that reason, Jote to me is more appropriate.

I'm terrible when it comes to pronouncing words in other languages. Even when people say the word properly for me, I can't copy them. My ears don't pick up the subtle differences between sounds. It's normally better if I can see the word written down - like with Spanish and French - but that doesn't work here in Myanmar since it has its own alphabet. I have plans to visit both Inle Lake and Pyin Oo Lwin. The temperatures in Pyin Oo Lwin sound great. Some cool temperatures would be a nice change.

There’s a pool near a yard where Aung San Lynn (the second child of Bogyoke) drowned after a few weeks the general was assinated.

I've looked at the Osmo Pocket in the past. I watched all the reviews comparing the Osmo Pocket to the GoPro, and for a variety of reasons I ended up deciding that the GoPro was a better fit for me. I can't remember what all the reasons were anymore, though. The Osmo Pocket probably would have worked out fine, but I ended up being a GoPro guy. I'm pretty disappointed in the direction that GoPro took with the Hero 8, but that's a whole other big topic. 😃

Hello Mr. Douglas; First of all, I hope that you are in the very best of everything in life and enjoying another visit to Yangon, and thank you for answering all my questions the other day. Just out of curiosity what would be the second main reason besides trains for your return to Mynamar again...is it the people, the culture, gastronomy or the architecture that fascinates you? Hopefully this time you will find a beautiful Burmese, girl from a good family... marry her and then buy a nice apartment with a balcony in Yangon; where you could in early the morning of the day sit on a chair read a good book, tasting a good cup of Vietnamese coffee; which is supposed to be very good. By the way have you tried Vietnamese coffee? Vietnamese Coffee is known for being some of the best available. The country is the top producer of Robusta in the world. Therefore, it is unsurprising that for travellers and expats in Vietnam, coffee is the top sought after souvenir and most often consumed beverage product. An egg coffee (Vietnamese: Cà phê trứng) is a Vietnamese drink which is traditionally prepared with egg yolks, sugar, condensed milk and robusta coffee. ... You pronounce it how you would this word Bojogee. I’m glad he’s recognised more than Na win who actually had Bojogee Aung Sun assasinated. I can’t believe they have not maintained the train station not even paint. But the generals have lots of money that they’ve stole!!!! I haven’t been back after 48 years I can see why.
