I love my 1967 Corvette L79 Coupe. It’s all original, and the car won NCRS top flight award three times.

The 1963 split window Corvette is the most aesthetically pleasing sports car from the US. I say that begrudgingly as my mother is a Ford Motor Company retiree.

My grandmother had a 1967 Impala SS, 327, white with vinyl roof, 327 and fender skirts. She bought it new in Fort Worth. I learned to drive in it. I never saw another SS with fender skirts.

Thanks for posting these old collections Dennis. I’ve been watching the show since it started when I was just a teenager and this takes me back!

Just what I need after putting in a long day in the shop. I'm currently working on a 73 Plymouth Duster but it sits in the middle of the shop with a 1956 Chevrolet BelAir 2 door hardtop on one side and a 1955 Chevrolet BelAir on the other side of it.

Still sporting the old scool "Certified Car Nut" decal on my Blown 57Chevy. Since 1985 when the car was restored.

That '67 SS had fender lamps just like my ol' '67 Bel Air station wagon. Loved that ol' car. My station wagon had the tow package which gave it a 4.10 geared 10 bolt rearend and upper trailing arms. To bad someone took the big block out of it and put in a 283 :( It was an easy to work on car...even under the dash was easy. I prefer blue color I had on the station wagon.

I remember reading about the Cheetah back in the 80s in Muscle Car Review magazine. I was still in high school then. I thought it was the coolest looking race car I had ever seen ......and it still is! Its a down right shame that that car never got the backing it deserved.

Was unaware of the reason for the end of the Cheetah. They ended production before they even had any chance of working out the initial design bugs... such a shame. Was always a favorite of mine, though rarely seen.

The Cheetah has always been a favorite of mine. Most people have no idea it ever ran, and won. My favorite is the topless CroSal Special, one of the fastest and most beautiful race cars ever built.

At risk of death by chevy fan: Watching this makes me miss my Oldsmobile cutlasses! I had two. First a 1970 Cutlas coup, and a 72 Cutlass Supreme. I had a 92 camero with the small v6, and it felt quick, but wasn't, it was just the stiffer ride and tighter road handling that made it feel that way. Clocked my slightly souped up 72 blew it away.

The cheetah didn't come out of Detroit. It was built in Anaheim calif, by Bill Thomas. I drove a couple, they would roast you. And didn't handle very well. But the were a beautiful car.

The Corvair was the first Yenko and it was fast and handled great. TransAm was what got me hooked on race track racing and I dropped 1/4 mile racing as boring compared to it. I like that dark green metallic on that Yenko Camaro.

I absolutly love muscle cars, sports cars and motorcycles. In 77 I had a KZ900, and in 84 I had a 69 chevelle SS 396 69 el camino with a 350. 68 fairlane that I restored with a 351 windsor canning 5he tired 289. So I have a basic knowledge of the space. I love the maticulous restoration process but to leave things unfinished is a shame in my eyes. The factory might have left things iffy because of corporate bs, but if your goiing thru thr car finish the loose ends. IMHO thanks and keep it between trhe ditches!

The nuance in body styles are interesting. I prefer the 65 and 66 in the Impala but definitely prefer the 67 lines in the Pontiac GTO. But love them all against Ford's or Dodges.

I bet the guy explaining the restoration of that beautiful siler '67 vette is a lot of fun at parties. I would not say anything, but he was rude to Dennis when he was being complimentary of his work. People who think they need to hide and keep secrets about certain restoration techniques are missing a great opportunity to help people in the car community, and instead being pretentious jerks. Luckily I have found that they are rare in the car hobby, and 9 out of 10 people are glad to tell/show/help you do something that they do really well. Im not talking about someone doing something they do for a living for free, thats a whole different scenario. If you drove that '67 vette 10 miles it would take him 3 years to go over the entire underside with a q tip. lol. Id love to see his face if the guy that owns it got in and immediately started doing donuts in it. Haha!

I had a '72 Nova SS. Man, I miss that car. When i got it it was primer grey. The guy was gonna paint it but his wife made him sell it before he got around to it. I was gonna paint it but after the 5th or 6th time a cop pulled me over just to tell me how bad ass it looked and offered to buy it I decided to stick with primer grey and I left it that color. Lol.

In 1972 I bought a 67 camaro that was painted plum mist metallic. Never could find the color listed as a Camaro color but was listed as a firebird color. Never saw another Camaro painted that color but did see alot of firebirds in that color. How rare was that color on a Camaro. It was a plain Jane 327/275 4 speeds of

Don't recall if it was ever mentioned if the Cheetah is one of the few factory built cars $$$ or one of the assembled ones from parts after the fire or one of the kit versions.

Dennis - A slight issue with your comment that "just when the Cheetah was starting to get a name for itself using its great speed and handling".........It absolutely had great speed ability due to its incredible power to weight ratio, but the car's handling was plagued with serious problems inherent in its ultra small wheelbase and poor/inadequate frame physics.

How could you not make comparison passes of the '70 Chevelle LS6 without the backseat driver ballast! PLEASE add a followup!

When I was racing, many years ago, in northern California I remember an orange Cheetah that was very fast and loud. Does anyone know who drove that car at Vacaville or Cotati race tracks?

Great video. I don’t what to be pedantic but there are a couple times when Dennis says 70 Camaro but shows a picture of a 69 Camaro. One is at 54:37 when he’s talking about David Holls. I know Dennis knows the difference. He is very knowledgeable. Still a great video.

from what I under stand is the 409 cylinder heads had no combustion chamber (flat) and the piston at TDC was below the deck and and that was the combustion chamber Old Jags did the same deal.

Is there any type of connection between the 'Cheetah' roadster with the #110 on the car and the old 1955 Porsche 950 Spyder driven by the actor James Dean the day he died in a horrific car crash on the way to a race at Laguna Seca? The actor died but his mechanic survived the crash. The Porsche also had the 110 insignia on the hood of the car and was purportedly a 'cursed' car that not only killed James Dean but led to the deaths of several people who purchased the parts from the wrecked car.

I always like listening to muscle car guys when they start rattling off all the stuff about their engines. It's like that Technical Jargon Overload video where the guy starts saying random nonsense words because they sound hi-tech.

What was that huge wet spot from under the Corvette?

Absolutely a very cool looking car that was unique in appearance and construction. However, to simply call it legendary does not tell the whole (honest) story of the car. It really was a legendary failure for several reasons. The 427 Cobra was known to be very warm in the cockpit. The Cheetah went well beyond that in being closer to a blast furnace for the driver. One team actually cut the top of the car off in a desperate attempt to make it bearable for the driver! The 90" wheelbase put the driver much closer to the engine headers and there was inadequate venting of the engine compartment. The driving position was quite uncomfortable due to the short wheelbase. There wasn't even room for a driveshaft, and the tailshaft of the tranny hooked directly to the differential! The chassis design left a great deal of issues that contributed to "serious" handling problems. The engine was prone to overheating as a result of inadequate venting, but that was later resolved with the use of a NASCAR radiator. Finally, the car was equipped with drum brakes rather than the much more versatile and effective discs........? Not sure whose idea that was but it was a bad one considering this car's incredible power to weight ratio! The car ended up being good for one kind of racing - straight line drag racing, but overall, the car was a failure on road racing circuits which it really was designed for.

One of the last great years for cars until they started doing silly things like running rubber hose lines from the carb that ran to the firewall and dead ended into a round cylinder bucket for fuel economy.
