@CEO of Unpopular Opinions irrc from what i understand making this mod in doom is the technical equivalent of making a sculpture given only a cone of soft serve and your tongue

It's not. There's more info if you read the out of game stuff in the download folder. The idea is that the person who posted it actually died in the fire with Tom because they were lovers living together, and they released the map from beyond the grave.

It's practically a retelling of House of Leaves and the Navidson Account, actually. A metanarrative related to a nightmarish interpolation of impossible spaces within a house that threatens to consume people who enter

Takes me back to early KZfaq. I personally would go the vocal commentary route myself if I were to stream, but I have a huge respect for people that do this style of commentary as well.

I wouldn't say the most creative. This map is more along the lines of the first person sub genre called a walking simulator where you unveil story lines (i.e. penumdra, soma, the park, amnesia the dark descent, the suicide of raphael foster, etc). The exception is this is still a doom map through and through. I'm not talking bad about it though dont get me wrong! I feel this map introduces one of the most unique doom experiences in years to my knowledge.

​​@@pauls4522 It's not though. There are a couple other videos on KZfaq of it but the game does multiple things that literally aren't possible in the base Doom engine. Doom cannot generate multi-story maps, it does not have working reflections, there is no swimming or breath mechanic, it does not have swinging doors, and it certainly doesn't have the ability to transform a house when you walk outside.

​@@ShadowmancerLord that it was created in doom doesn't mean pauls can't have seen more creative visions expressed in first person engines though.

Also, the account, Veddge, was inactive from 2006 to 2022, which fits the description of the submission where he said he hasn't used a Doom editor for 15 years.

100 million? not a single game company will give a map designer 100 million dollars.. 70 thousand maybe, but no one has ever given a map designer anything more that 150 thousand

It sounds like you didnt understand the story, probably because this uploader didnt include the side material. The person who claims to have made the game is also dead. They died in the fire with their friend, who was actually their romantic partner. The lore concept is that the game was released by a ghost.

@@ShadowmancerLord bro. did you even read my comment? what about ANYTHING I said tells you that I didn't "understand the story". god damn I hate when interesting things get noticed by bigger KZfaqrs because then all of their fans ruin it. i played this THREE DAYS after it was released, well before the vast majority of people knew anything about it. I made this comment shortly after that and it's been over a month since then. I have played through it completely now. jfc. when this was first released there was speculation as to whether or not the guy who made this ACTUALLY had a friend who died, if the backstory has any ACTUAL truth to it, obviously none of the ghost stuff is real, but we were wondering if the "friend" who died was actually real or not as well.

I got the exact same. Keep thinking about this wad and it's mysterious perfect layout for days. The lore even makes it beautiful and touching

SPOILERS ! Using no clip gets you lost in a maze with a virtually invincible monster that hunts you down, and you can do nothing but find the way that gets you back to the level.

beyond what everyone has already said, this map likely makes *heavy* use of portals. I don't think you'd be able to see much that you wouldn't otherwise be able to see without noclip

It does, but if you do you don't get the true good ending because the dog won't be at the beach with you

It's never hostile. The cerberus is in the "kid" version of the house, the regular dog is in the "adult" version. It's meant to show how a kid could be scared of a dog and think it's a terrifying monster but then when they grow up they see the truth

Really the only frustrating puzzle I ran into was the brutalist house. Partially because the dog, also because it truly is a maze of different doors.

​@@pauls4522 eh I had to watch a video to get through it. I didn't know strafe running existed since I dont play Doom, so I couldnt get the tuna; I also only found the tub thing by accident. And I had no idea that you could go through the mirror at all.

Iirc they increased the size of the player model by like 12%.

That's it. I don't know what you were expecting but it's just a conventional small scale map of a house. Are you ok? Maybe consult with a therapist.

You have to get the three keys, go outside and then return. New monsters and keys will appear.

yeah i covered all of this in my supplemental content video. it's really cool to see, but it's a huge shame that the qr code doesn't work anymore.
