We perched ourselves on a stoop deep in the Stoneybatter maze to bring you this performance. The street was our stage.
All through the heatwave this summer I've been meaning to take to the streets of Dublin and record how people have been living in the long dry weather. On the forefront of my mind has been the city suburb of Stonebatter Bothar-na-gCloch (Bohernaglogh) The Road of Stones. Originallly a Viking road which led in and out of the Viking settlement of Oxmantown on the north side of the River Liffey. Nowhere in Dublin will you find so many rows and rows of small cottage dwellings. In most cases the scale of each terraced house is no bigger than an average sized aparment but the difference being everyone's livingroom door opens to the street outside. There's a unique feeling when you walk around Stoneybatter that evokes a strong sense of community. People live so close together, connected by the street outside their window. Their doors slightly ajar, the thoroughfair outside feels as much a part of life in their home, than inside their home. I hope you enjoy this virtual stroll, and feel that energy through my images.
