I got my Jaws 4K on Monday it’s stunning, but it also shows how good the Blu-ray was when it was released, the restoration was top notch. Nice comparison as always sir.

Steven Grace .......not if you own the restored version on Blu-ray that is featured in this comparison, because that was amazing. The 4K looks a little bit better. It’s not like (for instance) the Blade Runner 4K vs Blu-ray. That film in UHD is astonishing.

The best movie ever made, now looks even better, Bein old (48) I have grown up on this and if I said how many times I have seen it I don’t think it would shock, I have as much Jaws memorabilia I can being in the UK the Blu was absolutely amazing, this has taken it to another level, the E8 shows this at it’s very best, I was so happy to see you do this comparison, It’s nice to see the extra level of detail but the colour grading has definitely been made a lot warmer, I’d say a definite Demo of a older restoration 4K, I grabbed as many editions as I could, obviously, as we all do of our No1 movies, out of my 310+ UHD discs, this is definitely in my top 10 now, great job on the perfect comparison..thanks brotha.

Great comparison video bro. I was not expecting some extra ordinary difference from the previous blu ray to this new 4k. The difference is marginal as expected but its Jaws so I have to upgrade.

I'm not one for upgrades that are slight . I know it depends on how the disc are mastered, I have a excellent upscaled Blu player and it makes the comparison even closer. I'm sticking with my Blu collection and Player .

The HDR is what makes the image pop. The Blu Ray 1080p release was actually remastered 4K scan of the film. So basically it’s the same digital print but this time the HDR is added and more finer detail can be seen. Just shows you how good the Blu Ray release was of the film.

Its a classic. A masterpiece but we have another reason to like it because we grew up with this movie and this movie is the reason I am scared of water at the age of 40. But don't set your expectations too high because you may find one particular shark attack scene cheesy (don't want to spoil it for you) but back then we were in awe on that scene.

To my eyes, there's no real difference in resolution but the colors in 4K look much better - especially the daytime scenes.

Almost no change in image quality on some of those comparisons--shows how excellent the 1080p already is.

Because the 1080p transfer was 4k and was downgraded to 1080p and they put a lot of effort in restoration.

@@Kashif314 Yep. The previous restoration was the real challenge. Now it was just a matter of making minor tweaks in color grading to make full use of HDR on some shots.

The people who are saying the difference is not noticable just know you have to have a 4k tv and the dvd to see it. Using the phone or 180p wont help. I don't have blue Rey DVDs so I can't judge on that I used to buy the standard editions so I'm impressed. I'm late because I haven't long got a 4k tv

On my setup, it's a mixed bag. I have a Sony X700 going into a Vizio V505-G9. With Dolby Vision on, it seems overly bright to the point some scenes appear washed out. Colors pop, but skin tones vary from normal to yellowish or orangish. With Dolby Vision off, using standard HDR10, it's perhaps slightly brighter than blu-ray but not enough to wash out. Skin tones are more natural, but the colors don't pop as much. Marginally better than the blu-ray.

Absolutely!!! I have a Vizio P Series and that same Sony 4K blu ray player and I too noticed the “washed out” look in Dolby Vision. I’ll take a look at it next time in HDR10.

Its only a subtle upgrade. The 2012 blu ray was impressive as this is when they did the restoration of it. The opening of the film appears more darker on 4k. The scene I noticed that benefited from 4k was the indianopolis speech and various shots of the ocean. I particularly find sky's and water benefit from the added HDR. Aside from that it looks pretty damn fine though not a lot different to the already fine looking blu ray. I feel that this film could do with going back to how it looked before all the colour alterations were applied because at times it looks too glossy. The clothes of the islanders for example almost glow as if they've all just bought them from the shop that day. And aside details in beards and on Quint's weathered face most of the time faces look a little too smooth which makes me think they may have applied some DNR here and there. Sand grain looks fantastic though checking the blu ray this looked the same. The scene at the dining table with Brody and son gets a nice face-lift. Bringing some of the details out of the dark thanks to the grain structure. This scene didn't look too well on blu ray

In term of resolution I can't really speak my opinion cuz I dont own a 4k tv or monitor. However I'm not sure if the color grading was changed enough for me to justify buying it

I've triple dipped on this, getting the regular Blu-ray and then the hard to find DigiBook now I got the 4K and honestly I don't see any improvements from the digiBook version to the 4K. The only time I can see differences is when I watch comparison videos. Ha.

Unlike the WOTW release with drastic improvements, this one had much more subtle improvements in color, contrast and brights. As some one who does not have the HD BR (only the Anniversary DVD) , the pre-release price of $20 is a good value. Looking forward to watching it when it arrives.

The colors are definitely different. Which is more accurate to the original film? Don't know. And is that difference because of the 4k scan, or could it have been the same on a standard Bluray? But I went ahead and bought the 4k even though I already had the 1080p Bluray. I'm about to upgrade from a plasma to a qd-oled. I need some movies to watch in 4k.

I can't tell any difference between the 4k and 1080p upscaled on my tv. Colours are identical. The 4k if anything is slightly darker in places.

4K just looks like the contrast was brought up. Blu-Ray is fine. No need to upgrade.

Not a big leap from 2012 Bluray to 2020 UHD to be honest. I've watched the 2020 version on my GZ Panasonic Oled, it's not a disc to really show off High Brightness or Wide Colour Gamut

The Improvement is Marginal to my Eye....but if I didn't have the 2012 Bluray I would buy the 4k as it comes with newer Bluray Transfer which should be Slightly Cleaner Clearer than the 1080p from 2012

4k already a huge failure due to abnormal pricing and since I have the blue ray which is in 7 1 dts and awesome restoration didn't get excited enough to upgrade to 4k. The difference is there but looking at the pricing I think the blue ray is fine. Great review though

The colour settings are too high for my liking. There's not actually much difference in the colour pallette from blu ray to 4k and I dont know how they managed to get a red glaring sunrise as Chrissie bobs her head up out of the water before the shark attack. How is that even achievable?.

To the people who think this is just a minor upgrade... Steven Speilberg himself said this is the best this movie has ever looked and that's including the initial theatrical release. I'll take his word for it. The 2012 remaster was nice but the HDR color grading and the upgraded audio make this one the clear winner.

This is comparing Dolby Vision and regular version. Do you have a 4K tv? Does it have Dolby Vision? There's some very obvious differences instead of "absolutely zero difference between the two" like you claim.
