7:44 So the reason why the car doesn't pop and bang has to do with recent European regulation that require cars to have only so much emissions. In order for MINI to be sold in the European market, MINI cars sold in that market had to be equipped with a 2nd catalytic converter. Which further muffles the exhaust sound and obviously deletes the pop and bang altogether. You can check if the MINI has that 2nd catalytic by simply looking under the car with no special equipment or lifting. Look under the in the middle just behind the front wheels. You'll the the exhaust's resonator. Pay attention to the resonator because that's where that 2nd catalytic converted is attached to. So, the resonator is a cylindrical shape section tube slightly larger than the exhaust pipe. Now, if the side of the resonator facing the front of the car is rounded or has a cone-like shape. Then it has that 2nd Cat. That rounded cone shape IS the 2nd cat. If the Resonator is symmetrical on both front and back sides, meaning that it's just a cylindrical shape with flat ends, then it does not have that 2nd cat, and it should pop and bang. Another reason would be that the Engine hasn't been broken-in, or in other words, the car is still new and the engine is still trying to adjust it's performance to cause the least amount of wear. As the engine is adjusting that the internals get used to each other. This is done by the ECU and it's a good thing. Generally a car with more than 4k Km is considered broken-in. The car in the video is quite new, even if it pops and bangs on higher rpms, I wouldn't let the engine reach those high rpms while the engine is still new. If you're not familiar with that last bit. To put it in simple words, Engines are made up of many moving parts in tight places such as the pistons. And it is very difficult to create parts to move perfectly as intended in tight places. Therefore, those moving parts are going to wear due to friction until they are worn down to a point where they are not rubbing on each other. The idea of the break-in period is that in this is the period where the manufacture tells you that it need this much time for the engine to be considered in its top shape. Now, you would want to drive your car gently during this period, yet in a way that you always switch up how you drive. Meaning that you don't stay on the same gear for too long. You don't stay on the same rpms for too long etc...
