This is a session from The Myositis Association's 2018 Annual Patient Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. While TMA's focus is on the inflammatory myopathies, patients with hereditary inclusion body myopathy also find support in this community, because they share many of the same symptoms and challenges. Led by both an IBM researcher and a patient with hIBM, this presentation explores the similarities and differences between hIBM and sIBM, genetic associations between myositis and other autoimmune and muscle diseases, the biology of how genetic inheritance works, the process of genetic testing and the significant issues that may arise with the results, and more.
