In this video I will show you if its possible to have your drive belt or serpentine belt last 1 million mile by treating it before you have it installed on your engine. Also I will go over how you can diagnose and pin point the exact cause of a belt chirping noise to either your belt, tensioner or a misalignment due to bad or worn out bearings or pulleys.

If the belts tend to dry out, soaking in 303 Actually makes sense. The manufacturer would never want to make a FOREVER anything.
@mikes8639
@mikes8639 5 жыл бұрын
You're missing the point here. These belts are replaced because they dry out and eventually crack or break, not because they wear out. Also, you install them after the conditioner is completely soaked in, not when they are wet and dripping, which would negate your 'swollen belt' argument. Keep up the good work. 🙏

303 Aerospace Protectant is a good choice... for using it in proper applications. But a few things: 1) Miles are irrelevant; engine hours at X rpm is what matters. 2) Rubber Protectants are designed to protect rubber from UV radiation, some chemicals, and the affects of humidity. 3) Any of these UV or rubber protectants can't be expected to reduce physical wear. 4) Can application of non-OEM recommended "protectants" on your engine components cause unexpected results? Probably.

The 303 military grade rubber protectant is way better than that black magic stuff. The 303 actually penetrates the rubber. And a tire company wouldn't ever tell you that it worked , they wanna sell as many tires as possible.I use the CRC belt conditioner for preventative maintenance ,it coats the belt ,hince protects it from drying out.I've got 80k on my tacoma belt and looks brand new. No sign of wear or cracks.I do all my own mechanic work learning how to from videos like yours and a good ole Schiltons book. Thanx for the info , and try the 303 aerospace/military grade rubber protectant. Works. But I don't think it is a million mile miracle fix either. Just saying I bet it helps....Put a little inside the tire before mounting.

The belt is still in good condition (only 40 thousand miles) and still look good but cause my power steering pump been leaking oil down the belt its super soak. Causing loud noise now. You say all these things will happen if soaking your belts cause your belt to snap prematurly or swell the ribs on the belt when you don't know if any of that will happen and why would a tire company want to have forever tires? anyway, I soaked all my belts 6 years ago on my new F250 and now I have 374,000 on my truck and my belts. none of the belts have any cracks,

If 303 makes tyres last longer why would tyre companies promote it ? They would lose business. It is wrong to say the sidewalls of tyres don't do any work - they hold the car up and flex as the loads on the tyre are applied and change during driving. One web site out there insists it works and claims to have tried it over the years and believes it lengthens the life of rubber parts considerably.

It might be worth while to remove the pulleys to restore their surfaces when replacing a belt, or if that belt seems to wear out too often. My evidence is weak, but I suspect manufacturers plan-in belt obsolescence by choosing soft pulley materials like sintered iron, then doing very little to properly surface a pulley's belt contact surfaces.

And? that means very little with regard to how the cam or cams are driven. Some engines use nylon and steel gear to gear drive, others use belts and still others use chains. The point remains the same, it is at best moronic to think applying any kind of rubber treatment to a belt of any kind, will make it last many times longer than not treating it in the first place. Rubber plus heat and stress equals rubber breakdown. Age plus rubber = rubber breakdown due to chemical leeching out of the rubber and causing it to dry out and in time crack or break. So called protectants are nothing more than lipstick on a pig.

You are a very young man and don't remember belts use to last u to 10 year's. Goodyear and Bridgestone realized that belts were lasting to long. So they started making the belts out of recycled rubber and stopped offering life time guarantee. Now belts will only last a couple of years. Even if you don't drive alot they will dry rot. It is the quality of the rubber that makes the difference.

Speaking of squealing belts, do you know about the Toyota belt squeal issue, as in Yaris, Echo. some Corollas etc... ? These cars are known to squeal on start up, BUT, if you turn the key to "run" first and stop there for a second (let the dash light up) then proceed to turning the key to "start", there is NO squeal! Works EVERY time. There is a vid on this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/friiibCl3q_VeY0.html Do you think it's what this guy says? If you stop at run for a sec, the computer has time to set the exact alternator output it needs, not the highest default level. Less alternator load means no squeal. Makes sense to me, but no matter, it absolutely works each and every time. (bet it makes the alt last longer too!)

Thank you for the video. But no company would make anything last forever with a lifetime warranty they make money off of selling products not making them last forever. Some of the first light bulb ever made still work why do we replace light bulbs every year

Valves get bent when a cogged cam belt breaks....correct, but ONLY if your engine is an "interference" style engine. The valves will NOT hit the piston for "non-interference" engines. A google search or more will tell you which one is which...

Well, I doubt this will make any difference. It will get loose and dry with time. What I do, with the belt still on car, is using a toothbrush apply some Vaseline to it. Turn engine on, then off. Apply again. 3-4 times and the belt will be completely lubed.

the belt is not supposed to be lubed. Lubricating a belt causes it to slip.

how it looks means nothing. lubricating the belt causes it to slip which increases friction.
