The work you guys do means so much to me. I love hearing about the Superstitions and Arizona history in general. My dad researched Tombstone, The Earp's and Doc Holiday extensively. He was a big Bob Boze Bell fan. Met him at a book signing for his Holiday book he did in the early 2000s or possibly late 90s. He had Karen Tanner Holiday's book as well. I love you guys. Wanna say hi to Larry and send my best wishes to Jack San Felice. I understand he lost his wife and took a bad fall? God bless him, I hope he gets better. You guys mean alot to me. Thank you. Also, I miss Hank and Charlie so much. I feel like I knew them ...

@@mysteriesofthesuperstition6793 The stories are delicious, *they are the Gold,* that we all can share and enjoy. (I never knew the movie that Vincent Price played in was actually based on a true story, "The Barron of Arizona") *I'm curious what you know about the Grand Canyon Cave story, that was found by Kinkade and reported in the Arizona Gazette. He found vast artifacts and mummies, referenced Egypt and Asia. He was Affiliated with the Smithsonian, and they deny the whole event. I'm like you, I don't feel 1 story is written to increase circulation. If you aren't familiar with the story, I believe the "Why File" Channel did a really good story on it, recommend the watch, most enjoyable. Best Thoughts and Wellbeing, Beth Tennessee, USA

I've enjoyed stories about the Dutchman mine since the 70's when my grandfather told me about it. He lived in Tempe for years and knew a lot of folks. Of course some people think it was found long ago and there is a large goldmining operation on the far side of the mountains but still it's fun to imagine.

Nice to hear Hanks voice at the end. I don't think anyone will ever figure out how the dutchman acquired that gold the truth is that is all they ever had to go on. If the story that Clay tells is true that the Dutchman killed to acquire the mine, and to keep it by killing his own nephew in his old age he must have felt a terrible guilt over what he had done. We all seen people over the years who were not so nice in their younger years but soften in their older age as they start to realize end of their life isn't too far away. If Waltz sealed up the mine because he didn't want to have to kill again if someone found it, why would he direct others he cared about to the mine. The mine has become a curse greed of the gold driven so many to die looking for it. Almost like the way Waltz killed to get the mine has cursed it forever.

All these guy were such characters. So many stories. Such a lawless time. I would imagine there is no lost dutchman mine. Common sense tells me it is more likely that he killed someone and stole their gold or found someone's stash ( maybe after they died?) . And the whole story was a cover, to keep people looking in the wrong place for something that didn't exist. Something like that would certainly explain the mystery.

Without them to cling onto, life would be a little more dreary …..😕. You know i love the lore around the dutchman mine but Theres one thing thats always come across as very strange to me The clues left behind by the dutchman If he really wanted his friends to have it like ive heard said before Why give them such cryptic clues why not just tell them the exact location of the mine Thats always been something i cant understand In recent times ive found myself wondering if the dutchman actually had a mine proper If i ever get the opportunity to travel out that way i want to search but search where the dutchmans original home was in my mind it stands to reason that the mine if it exists would be within a two hour walk of the dutchmans home anyone out there Got any input on this

Georgiaridgerunner As mentioned in previous stories, there were only two landmarks that were named before Waltz died, Superstition Mountain proper and Weavers Needle. None of the hundreds of mountains and canyons in the Superstitions were named and there is no way Waltz could give any direct information by name.

@@larryhedrick254 ok then does that mean that the clues left by the dutchmen might not be legitimate clues not trying to start an argument but just being genuinely curious

I agree with you 100%. That's a lot off mass to be carried around for long periods of time. Probably closer than 2hrs. I would say 1hr

Every couple of years, someone finds that mine. It is the most found lost gold mine in the world. Pity no one seems to know how to actually read the Peralta Stones, isn't it?...

My dad and one of his co-workers, a supervisor went out looking in the Superstition mountains looking for the Lost Dutchman treasure in the 1960's. They came across what appeared to be a cave or mine in the side of a hill with human activity. Something spooked them and they felt they were being watched and that was the both of them, then they left the area. That's all I remember. Sadly I don't have a map or directions to that area. I know I should have asked.

They hoped you would've asked so you would be the guinea pig . They didn't like you anyhow you'd be a sacrifice to the gods that should be left alone.

I love thise mountains. I have hiked all over those mountains for the last 25 years . Sometimes spooky always beautiful and dangerous. Camped out there many a night also some of the funnest and harriest moments of my life were in thhe superstition mountains . I always hoped one day i would just stumble upon the legandary dutchman mine .

I'm intrigued with the stories I've heard about the Dutchman mine. I'm from Canada and don't expect to travel that way, but I have a question? If anyone ever did locate something like this mine who would be classified as the owner? Love your show.

If its not on private property or in the wilderness one could file a claim. If in the wilderness one could apply for a treasurer trove permit but don’t hold your breath during the process.

Interesting story, but nothing related to the mine. My father and I hiked in the superstition mountains in 1957. I was 12 at the time. We came in from the west side and went up the back side near Blacktop mountain and Weaver's Needle. Of course we had read all the stories about the mine. We met several old miners with their mules that were supported by "angels" with money and supplies looking for the mine. I remember one day I was at the base of the cliff that was the east side of the mountain. It is the prominent "prow" you can see from Phoenix. I could see the entire valley all the way from Mesa junction to Phoenix. Like I said, interesting history of a small part of my life. Best time I ever spent with my dad.

QE I, of course, was debunking a claim that a person found the LDM 75 miles west of the Superstitions. I’m glad you had that great experience.

If the Dutchman mine was so productive, why are there no major mines in the area?

I found some markings , I’m pretty sure they’re a Peralta marker. There was what looked like a cave across the canyon . But again I never got back to research it further. Maybe some day if I don’t get to old.

Any relatives of the Peralta family still around? It's a common last name in Mexico.
Could it Have been the Lost Dutchman Mine.
