This music/soundscape is a piece that was inspired by Aztec mythology. The title Cōātlīcue is the name of an Aztec goddess and is roughly translated into "[she who has] the skirt of snakes". She is the patroness of life and death and the guide of rebirth. I chose the title and artwork before starting the song, and the two inspired me MASSIVELY while I composed this... Michele Parisi made an incredible and haunting painting here in my opinion. It ended up 15min long and I thought since it's somewhere between music and soundscape it would probably be nicer to loop it a few times to make it into an uninterrupted background ambience. Recently, I watched a philosophy teacher talk a little about the myths and the stories of the aztec people (and many others from the region) and how they were completely ignored in our history books - noting the fact that we, from brazil, are pratically neighbors and we don't know anything about them! While we spend our whole lives in school studying european and american background, we don't get in touch with this amazing culture that lived/lives so close to us; Anyways, i'm amazed Adrian, as always, just found it curious the perfect timing for me, and how it might bring me a little closer to this culture, thank you! 🙂
