The second that stories become inconsistent or start changing when it involves missing or injured children is ALWAYS extremely concerning and suspicious.

The changing stories and that these parents moved on with their lives so quickly make them extremely suspicious to me. I can't imagine losing my child and caring about anything but finding him.

I live near Idaho so this story dominated the local news when it happened. I was suspicious from the start. I camped with my kids starting when they were toddlers. I never let them out if my sight, especially if we were camped near a body of water. I think if DeOrr had been anywhere around that campsite, he would have been found.

Everything about this case is inconsistent and strange. For instance: 1- During the trip to the store, they said they got "lost" for nearly an hour, which is ridiculous because there is only one road to town and the the tiny village is only a couple of streets long. 2- They told several lies, for instance, that a beer-truck driver had interacted with Deorr and that the gas station attendant had also interacted with Deorr. Both men were interviewed and both adamantly denied ever seeing Deorr. Why would they make up all the stories about people interacting with Deorr during this shopping trip? It is clear Deorr was not with them, two independent witnesses said the parents were alone. Maybe they got rid of him along the way? 3- One thing that is striking to me is the difference between this case and Maddie McCann's case. The McCanns tried to get as much exposure as possible and never stopped looking for their child, they even met with the pope! These parents, on the other hand, did not want exposure. After the first couple of interviews, they didn't want any more media around, and wanted to forget the incident. 4-Vernal moved out of state and Jessica remarried only a few months later, and was all smiles (kinda like Casey Anthony partying while her child was missing). I've seen many cases of missing children and the parents never stop looking. Maura Murray's dad kept looking for her forever; same with the McCanns. These two, on the other hand, moved on with their lives as quickly as possible. 5- Interestingly, when you listen to some interviews with Jessica, she refers to Deorr using distancing language, calling him "that kid", "little man" or things like that ("that kid was my best friend"). Chris Watts did the same things on interviews ("I want those kids back"). She rarely uses his name nor does she say "my child" or "my son". It's all very distant. 6-Vernal, the father, made remarks like "I want to prove everyone that we're innocent". One would think that his priority would be to find his kid, rather than to prove anything! 7-Did they want to get rid of Deorr and use Isaac as a scapegoat? Otherwise why bring along a guy that you don't know at all and who has a criminal past? Who says “I want to go camping with the family, and it would be a great idea to also invite some stranger who is a weirdo”? Even the grandpa said he didn't trust Isaac and didn't know him well, so why on earth did they bring him? 8-They were deeply in debt and struggling financially, but they decided to spend money on a camping trip? 9-And why go on a camping trip on a Thursday instead of the weekend? Perhaps because the campground would be empty? 10- Jessica did not want this child like she didn't want her previous two kids. There is a picture of her with Deorr and she's giving him such a hateful stare that is unbelievable. She had already given up custody of her two previous kids, and she had tied her tubes. She dumped Vernal a month later and quickly married another guy .The opposite of a grieving mother. 11-Two private investigators, one after the other, offered their help, only to quit shortly thereafter because they felt the parents were uncooperative and deceitful. What are the odds that two detectives would say the same thing? 12-When Jessica and Vernal were evicted from their house, one of the private detectives was granted access by the landlord and he found the boots they said Deorr was wearing. The boots were in the house all along. Another lie by the parents. I don't know what happened, but when you put all the pieces together, nothing makes sense. The whole thing stinks!

All the times we have camped and hiked I never took my eyes off my kid. You just don’t, especially a two year old. Thanks Dr G.

I mean, it turned out that the woman who claimed a "dingo ate my baby" was probably telling the truth, though we wouldn't realize that until 30+ years later from the initial event. Anything is possible, but the parents seem pretty suspect in this case.

Love how Dr. Grande’s speculations are absolutely, “nah, I smell BS; better luck next time pal.” Always gives some good insight and really makes you think about all sides of the situation. I work with DeOrr’s grandmother. She called some guys that she knew well and had camped with. As they were loading up four wheelers, they received a call not to show up. Why would anyone not want men and women who spend their off time camping and hunting. It’s heartbreaking to watch the grandmother live through this living nightmare.

As soon as it came across our news here in Idaho, we knew that the parents were/are suspects. If two separate private detectives, hired by the parents quit because they feel the parents are lying and being deceptive….. they are definitely suspects.

IMO, the only reason they brought the grandfather and friend were to misdirect the police investigation - give the police someone else to investigate and blame. This case has always bothered me, to many changes to their stories which is always a red-flag.

I love it when an expert, in any field, uses the "Sword of Damocles" to illustrate a point, particularly a winning point. It immediately creates a vivid picture in my mind and I almost always end up agreeing with that person.

Sometimes I read old newspapers for fun. There were so many children who 'ran away' or 'disappeared.' It makes me wonder how many parents have got away with murder over the years. I'm glad we live in an age where unsolved child disappearances are the exception rather than the rule.

I was thinking of DeOrr the other day. Such a sad story, poor little guy. :-(

Am pretty sure the little boy didn't go on this spontaneous trip at all. One of his parents killed DeOrr, probably in a fit of anger, and they took along the other two people as "witnesses" to their story. If you watch true crime stories about children who got lost in the woods, large numbers of viewers believe there are always kidnappers and wild animals lurking around, ready to pounce any minute. Never mind by far the most likely explanations are 1) the child just got lost -- very easy to do -- had an accident, and fell into a place where his body could not be seen, or 2) the parents killed the child, and took the body out to the wilderness to dispose of it. I'd bet big money that DeOrr's parents had seen shows like that before, and thought "here's a plan!"

At 43, I don't have any kids that I helped make. But I've had the privilege and honor to have helped raise several kids of varying ages. I virtually never let the young ones out of my sight, but as you real parents know, the couple times one slipped away for a minute, I was an absolute WRECK. So this one stings a bit

This story has always been a big mystery for me. If the parent(s) did this, they won't be able to hide from justice for long. With so many "no body" cases going to trial, it's not as unusual as it used to be. Thanks, Dr. Grande! 💙💙💙

I believe the theory that the boy never even made it to the trip. That they did something to him before they even went and used the trip as an excuse for him to go missing.

This whole event sounds too well planned. Bring an acquaintance and an elderly man who uses supplemental oxygen and whose mentation is questionable to a family camping excursion?? The boy goes missing and everyone is saying, "I thought that he was with you!" Stories and memories are sketchy at best, and change at worst. Find the motive for wanting the child gone and you'll find out the who, what, where and how.

I had not heard that the parents both remarried and moved out of state. I have been suspicious of the parents from the very beginning. I had not heard they had both remarried and moved away. I know each person/family reacts differently, but it is not uncommon at all for parents to turn a child's room into a shrine, not change their phone number (for older children who might remember the #) or refuse to change any number of things with the faintest hope of the child returning home. Something happened and they were lucky enough, though they probably think it was because they are smart enough, to get away with the crime. Sometimes, criminals just happen to do everything right by accident. Sad.

Such an odd case. Makes me incredibly sad for little Deorr and for the missing adopted brothers Orson and Orrin. How can children just up and vanish like this in today's world??

I lived in Idaho Falls area for a little over a decade and I've been to Leadore due to my first husband being an avid sportsman. It would be pretty easy to lose track of anyone in the wilderness or "out in the middle of nowhere " areas that are common here in Idaho. I don't understand why these people didn't have DeOrr in their sights at all times. I've known parents to put small children in harnesses while enjoying the great outdoors. I remember this case when it happened and I don't know if the parents had anything to do with the poor child's disappearance but they were clearly incredibly negligent.

I don’t know these parents or have any affiliation with them but I just felt the need to respond on your comments about grief and how the mom got married 8 months after the disappearance of Dior. We humans have a hard time dealing with pain like grief and it’s not at all uncommon for a grieving person to jump into a relationship because they are trying everything in their power to feel better and to get away from the pain of heartache . Nothing works but we still try .

From your information these two “ parents” seemed to be more interested in shopping and finding a creek with big fish, than being concerned about their child. So very sad an innocent child lost his life through neglect

In the beginning, I was under the impression that Jessica & Vernal were walking down to the water - baby DeOrr attempted to follow them, and, one of them brought DeOrr back to the campsite & asked Grandpa & his friend Isaac to keep an eye on DeOrr. Grandpa said he would help keep watch over Baby DeOrr. I never heard about Isaac walking down to the water Jessica & Vernal. Not until very recently. (9/2021)

I would love to see Dr. Grande do an analysis of the Ray Gricar case. Ray Gricar was a district attorney from Centre County, PA who went out one morning after telling his live-in girlfriend he'd be home sometime in the afternoon. He seemingly vanished. His computer hard drive was found in a nearby creek near the last place he was seen, and his car, a mini Cooper, was left in the vicinity as well.

My guess is that it was an accident caused by their own neglect or abuse. They didn't mean for him to die but are culpable in his death. Everything after is a panicked and callous attempt to avoid punishment.

I would never just assume someone is going to watch my child. I would make sure that someone is going to care for my child. There’s a lot that goes into someone watching a 2 year old. For example you need to let the caregiver know where the child’s diapers are, if the child already napped, what to feed the child. Where his snacks are located. Let them know to keep a close eye on the child considering the child is only 2 years old. Something is off.

I’m glad you chose little DeOrr’s disappearance (allegedly) to analyze - it’s now been 6 years. I saw the first news reports with the mom’s 911 call ~~ She takes her time to finally & calmly say “Ohh. By the way ~ MY TODDLER SON ~ umm ~ We can’t find him” ~ WHAT?? It’s one of the weirdest 911:calls I’ve ever heard. Plus ~ many details given by his parents don’t make sense. Women don’t go very far without tampons; who drives with a toddler (allegedly) at night to a faraway isolated campground??? Was the child even with his parents on the trip? I think DeOrr never made it to the campsite ~ something awful happened to him earlier thus the oddball coverup “last~minute” drive in darkness to the most remote campground in the county. When was the last time anyone else actually saw little DeOrr alive? I don’t think Isaac truly saw him. No photos of DeOrr at the campground exist. I don’t understand why LE has not yet charged at least one of little DeOrr’s parents for Negligence. Dr. G. Your description is very thorough - more so than mom’s & dad’s. I’ve always thought they’ve been successful in their coverup. So Far anyway…..

I thought it was interesting that the grandmother asked her daughter if she did something with Dior. I can’t imagine my mother ever asking me that. The Grandmother also thought her husband could’ve been negligent and lost the child. Sad all around.

Dior's parents wanted to disconnect themselves from each other for the rest of their lives. Don't know whether Vernon's truck was analised for blood or cadaver dog detection. Another possibility is that they sold the little boy and was handed over somewhere. Its really surprising how quickly they renewed their lifes after 'loosing' their son Dior. My best wishes to Dior whatever he might be. God bless you.

Just to play Devil's advocate in regards to scenario#2: a lot of people thought the parents killed that baby that got carried off by a dingo until they found the poor little mite's body in its cave. I'm not by any means defending anyone. I'm just saying strange things are possible and sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

I would love if you could do a video one time explaining polygraphs in general. Exactly what it is they measure and why they are unreliable and pseudoscience. I understand they are not allowed in court unless both parties agree to allowing it prior to taking the test, which if it’s all BS I find strange altogether.

This video just started and I can't wait to hear what Dr. Grande have to say. I did alot of research and have been broken hearted and angry about this poor child. I remember it being said that the grandfather was not fond of the child. The guy they brought along, he was confused to why he was invited to attend that weekend and if I remember correctly, he lawyered up because he felt they were trying to put blame on him and he told the police quite a bit of information. One being he felt he invited only to be used as a scape goat. An animal managed to carry Dior without knocking off his boots and hat, lol!! Funny not funny! I'm curious to know what kind of life insurance policy they had on Dior? They have to live with themselves for the rest of their lives. I would need to seek professional help and be sedated at all times if I were to accidentally kill anyone! Just horrific!!
