Ironically, if they did the 'end with a bang' test in the middle, everybody would have complained that they should, obviously, put it at the end - thus proving that it is in fact better to end with a bang. Alternatively, imagine them edging the viewers. Setting up all the explosives, the gasoline, really hyping it up! Only to then say "wow, wouldn't that be cool?" and just go home. Not a single explosion in full MB episode. That would absolutely prove it too! :D

I watched a video the other day where the whole audio was purely on my left headphone and nothing came through the right. I’ve had a few where some speech comes left and some comes right which is a pain when only having one headphone in

How Adam and Jamie tested the ‘polishing poop’ myth is oddly metaphorical for overcoming the problem that the idiom implies. You can’t polish a turd, I.e. you can’t take something which has no value and improve it. BUT sometimes you’re looking at it from the wrong perspective. Sometimes you need to seek outside help and maybe even apply wisdom from sources outside the field you’re working in, just as Adam did by using Dorodango. And suddenly, the myth went from Adam and Jamie squabbling over what it means to ‘polish’ something, to the both of them producing some genuinely beautiful pieces (if still kind of gross).

They got the "Hit the ground running" completely backwards. The idiom is about how to jump of a moving train and safely come to a standstill, without instantly falling and hurting yourself. That is why trains are shown at the beginning as the origin of the idiom in the 1800s. It's not about getting up to speed from a standstill, like when they try dropping from a harness or on the bike. They _almost_ got it right with the zipline: They might have been _unstable_ as they hit the ground "while running", but they crucially did not fall. Had they tried the zipline with stiff legs they would have faceplanted.

Source? All I can find about the origin is that it is either about the military having to run to not get shot, stowaways on trains having to jump off running to not get caught or pony express riders doing it to save time. In either of these the way they approached the idiom correctly. This is also what 99% of the population would assume you mean when hearing this idiom.

Then you didn't get the point of the episode. Polishing turd doesn't mean literally polishing turd either. But that was the point of this episode. Take theese idioms literally and test the literal interpretation. In your case you hit the ground and then start running. But the idiom iplies that you are already running before you hit the ground.

It had nothing to do with trains, and a _literal_ example can be found illustrating the phrase in "Forest and Stream", Feb. 16 1895, p. 133, where the writer recounts having a captured fox and his friends speculating they should just throw it to the hounds. Which they did, and he said the animal "hit the ground running". That fox had every intention of getting a jump on the dogs and high-tailed it out of there.

Well, jumping off something at speed and jogging or rolling off the momentum is possible. That's just a natural reaction, ofc stiff legging any landing ends up worse than not. We already know this. But the way they interpreted it is more akin to the usual wile e coyote type stuff they usually test.

And I was surprised that, while they censored the sound, their mouths were uncovered (which they usually do cover in the edit). So it was clear they said ‘turd’, ‘crap’ and ‘shit’.

It is easy to polish a turd, as an amateur lepidopterist I have polished several for jewellery, only these turds are 3 Million years old and called coprolite.

25:00 I want the bike experiment re-done, with a flywheel for the bikes rear wheel... So that peddling only powers the flywheel, and the bike wheel get's it's power via the flywheel. That way the mechanical translation of power can continue, and u still have the flywheel for balance...

Fun fact about that "you can't polish a turd" idiom there is actually multiple variations of it like "you can polish a turd but it's still a turd" and "better polish that turd because it ain't getting better" type of variations. All of them means same thing shiny shit is still shit.

What I find more fascinating than the polish is that the network has a _list_ of words for feces that are permitted to be spoken on TV. I don't understand why "turd" is more offensive than "poop", though.

Hitting the ground running is on moving ground... the company you're hired at is already rolling, you hit the ground running by joining the team and being at the same pace as the company instantly. There should have been a treadmill or something like that involved. Or jumping off a train... or something

In South Africa we use poop to polish our floors. Not all floors, but on our farm our stoep is concrete and we put manure on and with elbow grease those floors are shiny and very waterproof. And the smell goes away in a week.

"Hit the ground running" is pretty much just the Knight Rider parking in a moving truck from behind thing. Going from moving to stable, pretty much the same thing. The ramp behind the truck takes up the energy the car puts into moving the wheels. The reason is that that car and truck have the same speed, but the tires don't.

Most things can’t be polished without some sort of wax to begin with. I can sit here and polish my jewelry with just a dry rag all day and it’s not gonna do anything. You need something to achieve shine. Polish is to bring out the natural sheen to what you’re polishing. Plus the idiom makes no mention of being able to achieve a polish with or without wax. So I’d say whether you use wax or not are both valid. The idiom is so vague that you can take liberties

They did test that once. They tested the myth of people throwing bullets in a fire and getting shot. I don't remember the outcome, but the bullets did pop in the fire, but I don't recall whether they were able to fly out and hit the dummies.

I've found that my computer speakers have the option to switch to mono audio in the sound settings. Not entirely sure about how well it works with headphones though.

All cats are 100% carnivores. Not “mostly.” Cats will become incredibly sick if you don’t give them meet. Some problems include blindness, motor functions and heart issues. Anyone who refuses to give their cat meat is an animal abuser and be thrown in jail. And needs to have all their animals taken away. Cats are built to eat meat and nothing else. There may be foods that won’t harm them if given once in a while. But definitely not part of a diet

The (heh) "myth" that they didn't like each other came from an article that took a piece of an interview out of context. In Tested, Adam has gone on record /at least two times that I'm aware of) clearing this up.
