The kelpie also has another Welsh counterpart called the Ceffyl dwr, it has people climb on its back and fly into the air before dissipating into mist, causing the person to fall to their death.

Well the Dearg-Due isn’t just a bloodsucking Vampire. She also had the power to extract breathe of life from people. When she killed her bastard of a father it wasn’t by bloodsucking. She kissed him on the lips and sucked out all the air in his lungs including his life force. He died instantly. She also didn’t kill herself right away. The husband had her locked in a tower with rats. So after a while of being there, the isolation drove her to suicide. And she tore her husband apart with her teeth and drained him good. Also it didn’t happen right away. It took a whole year before she rose from her grave to take vengeance. The young Peasant boy tried to find her to help her move on. But she always ran from him. I think it’s because she didn’t want redemption. Maybe she knew if she saw him she would go back to being good. And would have to face what she had done. Always she would return to her grave in the morning. So one day the peasants placed stones atop her grave to stop her from leaving. And so far it has worked. The grave is a tourist attraction to this day. Oh! And it turns out that Dearg-Due was a mistranslation someone made. It actually means “Crimson Darkness” in Gaelic.

Given that she hasn't been sighted for centuries she's probably moved on to the next life, and i'd imagine that her husband is the one more in danger in not getting redeemed, considering he was an abuser

The Banshee is probably the strongest and most feared here in Ireland, Bean Si translates as Women Faerie or Faerie woman. Sounds like Ban She. The Banshee is possibly related to the Tuatha de Danann and this makes her even more powerful.

The Banshee has always been described as this low grating howl in my family, way more like a cow crying out then a typical woman’s scream or moan, which honestly is a lot more off putting. The actual cause behind the Banshee’s screech was very likely either owls, or my favorite reason: horny foxes basically screaming that their bodies were ready. A Red Fox’s mating call sounds eerily like a woman screaming in terror.

My then 8 years old son came downstairs and said he heard a woman screaming all night. We didn’t hear anything. Five minutes later I got a call from my brother saying there was nothing more they could do for my mum and we should say our goodbyes. Two weeks after she passed, my sonncame out of school and said he saw her. I was sceptical and asked if she was scary/ see through etc. He said “No, she was just in her ordinary clothes standing in the corner of the canteen smiling at me”. I was taken aback because he didn’t know my mum had volunteered one morning a week at the school canteen and often said it was her favourite part of our young childhood. He is a bit on the autism spectrum and I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I once heard about a monster, I'm not sure if it came from Celtic legend. This story is about a dwarf king who was greedy for pleasure and made the people miserable. Finally the people killed him and buried him. Later, the king was resurrected and became a zombie to cause trouble in the world, and was eventually killed by the wizard. This story seems to come from Western Europe, but I'm not sure if it's part of Celtic mythology. Does anyone know about this and can help find its prototype, whether it comes from Celtic, and what is the name of this monster?

Skipped some details on Pookas, but it seems most such videoes as these do. A common practice among farmers was to leave a portion of their harvest in the fields, and this was named The Pooka's Share. This is the food the Pooka would subsist on during the winter, and in exchange, farmers who observed this practice would be protected by the Pooka. Some of their common other forms are those of a large dog, a rabbit, and a hawk or eagle.

Can you make a video about the difference between a mermaid and a siren ?
@MythologyUnleashed
@MythologyUnleashed 2 жыл бұрын
A siren is a bird like creature with a woman's head who sings songs so beautiful it causes sailors to crash their vessels upon rocky shores and eat them. A mermaid is a sea dwelling being with a human's top half and a large fish tail in place of legs, their motives vary between helpful, romantic, and sinister!

@@MythologyUnleashed What did you mean sinister ? Also, what you described about the sirens sounds more like harpies. Is there any difference between them ?
@MythologyUnleashed
@MythologyUnleashed 2 жыл бұрын
@@aidanhever3369 "sinister" meaning cruel or deadly. Depends on the story of course! The harpies were ugly screeching creatures, half hag half vulture. They harassed King Phineas relentlessly until Jason and the Argonauts drove them off!

Quick notes, the whole singing and luring sailers to their deaths is also sometimes attributed to the modern version of mermaids, namely in Danish versions of them, lest I be mistaken. Also, the difference between harpies and sirens isn't that big, physically at least, sirens are mostly depicted as more birdlike, with a women's head, and harpies more as women with wings and often claws and talons, standing more upright, but the designs are kinda used interchangeably, so this isn't always very clear, as for their behaviour, sirens ussually live on rocks/cliffs near the water and lure sailors to their deaths, whereas harpies moreoften make their nests up in trees and generally behave in a more birdlike manner.

Am I the only one who saw the depiction here of the Dullahan and immediately thought of the legend of the headless horseman from the short story by Washington Irving titled The Legend of Sleepy Hollow? By the way to the author of this video I myself used to mispronounce the word mischievous like you and say Miss-Chee-vious which is incorrect. I was corrected by a reputable English professor many years ago and told it is actually pronounced Miss-Chiv-ous.
